Abstract

236,564. Electric Boat Co., (Assignees of Nibbs, E.). July 2, 1924, [Convention date]. Two - stroke-cycle engines; cylinders, ports of; pumps, centrifugal.-Twin cylinder engines having a common combustion chamber 8 are charged by a multi-stage air pump 15 driven by a low pressure turbine 24. This is worked by the exhaust from the engine, an expansion chamber 22 being included in the exhaust pipe. Exhaust takes place at different pressures through the two ports 21, 20. The two pistons work on one connecting rod through the cross-head 11. The scavenging may be at atmospheric or higher pressure.
