Abstract

380,548. Steam boiler water tubes. LEWIS, W. Y., 17, Woronzow Road, St. John's Wood, London. July 20, 1931, No. 20751. [Class 123 (ii).] U-Field tubes are used in conjunction with drums or headers of high-pressure boilers in closely spaced units depending from the drums or headers. A single U-tube a, the open ends of which are secured to a wall d of a suitable receptacle, has an inner tube e in each of the U-legs, the open ends of which are secured to a wall f. In a modified U-tube, the inner tubes e, which may be rigid or flexible, may overlap in the bend c of the tube. In a further modification, the outer tubes are connected at their upper ends in a common junction piece g, Fig. 5, the inner tubes being similarly forked as at e3. In application, the tubes may depend from a drum k, Fig. 8, of a Yarrow boiler, to form one or more banks C, C. Similar tubes may enclose the transverse ends of the combustion chamber, as at r. The latter may also be extended to form the floor of the combustion chamber. Specification 21768/00, [Class 123, Steam generators], is referred to.
