Abstract

379,174. Steam superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Babcock & Wilcox, Co. ; 85, Liberty Street, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 11, 1931, No. 34366. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii).] The tubes of a superheater 17, Fig. 1, arranged in a water-tube boiler are supported by a plate 24 secured to the tubes and to a transverse pipe 26 through which water or other cooling medium is circulated and which rests upon or is suspended from the boiler tubes. The plate 24 is covered with refractory material 25. Steam from the boiler drum or feedwater is circulated through the pipe 26. In modifications, boiler tubes 52, Fig. 6, are divided and so secured to the pipe 26 as to allow boiler water to circulate through it, or some of the tubes of the superheater are similarly divided to allow the saturated steam entering the superheater to flow through the pipe.
