Abstract
306,753. Robertson, J. H. April 10, 1928. Grant of Patent refused. Variable-speed friction gearing of the kind in which a driven friction wheel f is moved eccentrically with respect to a driving disc i comprises an intermediate annular friction and clutch member g. The member g has an annular gear surface h engaging the disc i on a small area, and an annular surface h<1> engaging over the whole of a clutch surface j upon the wheel f. To avoid wear between the gear surfaces h, i, the surfaces are chosen so that slip occurs between the clutch surfaces h<1>, j, before it occurs between the gear surfaces. The member g is preferably supported centrally on a singlerow ball bearing a on a spigot b on the end of driven shaft d. Specifications 21045/13, 18776/14 and 158,725 are referred to.
