Securing gear-wheels, pulleys, &c. on shafts.- In means for securing to railway and other running axles, pulleys, gear-wheels. &c., or hub members which may be subsequently turned down and secured to the wheel by keying &c., the wheel &c. hub a, Fig. 1, is formed in halves, one or both ends a<1> of which are split and surrounded by rings b also formed in halves inter. connected by bolts. The split ends are pressed upon the shaft by radial screws g, intervening steel pads f with conical or spherical inner faces f<1> being employed. In a modification, Fig. 8, rings are each formed in halves with adjacent rectangular or circular lugs j<1> which are connected together by similar rings m held in position by bolts n. The rings j are internally tapered to engage corresponding surfaces on the exterior of the hub a and are drawn together by bolts k. The hub may be split at one end only, the bolts k engaging the ring j and the web h on the hub. The hub and the shaft may be tapered. Frictional material may be inserted into the inner surfaces of the hub, is desired, only within the ends a<1>. The ends of the ring b or j may be interconnected by dovetailing.
