Abstract

334,320. Widegren, K. A., and Widegren, E. H. July 9, 1929. Clutches, friction ; securing pulleys &c. on shafts ; shaft couplings. - A friction clutch operates centrifugally through the medium of powder or granular material placed in a driven clutch member, shown as a belt pulley 6, which encloses two or more rings 1 secured to a hub 3, keyed to the driving-shaft 4, by spokes or discs 2. As shown in Fig. 2 the rings 1 are formed on a sleeve extending across the casing and connected to the hub 3. The rinks 1 and the sides of the casing may be tapered as shown in Fig. 4, or the rings may be L- or T-shaped in section, and the operative surfaces of the clutch are preferably grooved or otherwise roughened.
