Abstract
232,391. Sabel, G. March 17, 1924. Actuating-mechanism.-To ensure the closing of the supply valve of a gas cooker, one or all of the burner cocks is provided with a handle which can be removed only when the burner cock is turned on, while the supply valve can be turned on only with one of the burner cock handles, which can only be removed from the supply valve when the latter is turned off. The handle has a sleeve b and a movable bolt a of semicircular cross-section. The lower end of the bolt a engages with the gas-supply plug h under the control of the spring c which tends to draw the bolt into the sleeve b. This is prevented by a pin d which is pressed outwards by a spring e. When the handle is applied to the plug, a pivoted leverf is depressed against a spring g, but returns when the handle is rotated. At the end of the rotation the pin d is pushed back into the bolt by the lever f, so that the bolt is not locked in its lower position, and is withdrawn into the sleeve b. The handle is not now capable of actuating the supply valve, but must be withdrawn, inverted, and used for actuating the burner cock, Fig. 2. Each burner cock is fitted with a plug i of semicircular cross-section which fits into the sleeve band so pushes up the bolt a. A bayonet slot h locks the handle l when the cock is turned off, and ensures that the bolt a is pushed up sufficiently to release the pin d to hold the bolt a and render the handle available for use on the gas-supply valve.
