Valves actuated indirectly or involuntarily.-A gas-ring burner, the supply to which is controlled by placing a kettle or the like upon it, is provided with a tube 20 in the shank, having a valve 24 which carries a rod 25 and spider 26 to guide it. The valve is normally retained on its seat by a spring 27. A lug 29 on the valve is engaged by a lever 11 which is actuated by a push-rod 10. The latter is actuated by another lever 6 mounted on a forked holder 4 so that when a kettle is placed on the burner, a knob 8 is depressed and the valve is opened.
