500,418. Atmospheric vapour burners. EKSTROM, H. July 16, 1938, No. 21159. [Class 75 (i)] In a burner in which a needle valve 6 for controlling the vapour inlet 1 to the nipple 5 is provided with a screw-threaded operating spindle 8 having a pin 15 projecting into a slot 14, or slots, in a loose pinion 13 in mesh with a rack 12 on the stem 10 of a cleaning needle 11 so that the latter is not operated until the valve 6 has been fully opened, the pinion 13 is adapted to be connected with the spindle 8 while the needle 11 is being moved into the cleaning position, or after it has reached that position, so that the needle 11 commences to return from the cleaning position immediately the spindle 8 is turned in the opposite direction to move the valve 6 towards the inlet 1. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a portion 16 of the slot 14 is obliquely arranged so that the pinion 13 can be displaced by the pin 15 and clamped to the threaded portion of the spindle 8. In other forms, the pin 15 is adapted to be wedged in the restricted end 17 of the slot 14, Fig. 8 ; or engage an abutment in the end of the slot, either the pin or the abutment being resilient; or the pin is made of iron or steel and held by a small magnetized piece of steel in the end of the slot.
