Abstract

1,135,916. Valves. LEYBOLD HOLDING A.G. 24 Feb., 1967 [25 March, 1966], No. 9054/67. Heading F2V. Valve for vacuum equipment comprises a valve needle 10 fixed to a holder 7 having a passage 9 and movable in relation to a seat 5 by a differential screw drive including a stem 11 fast with the holder and threadedly engaged in a sleeve 12 screwed into an end 1a of the valve body 1. The seat orifice is initially smaller than the needle, e.g. of 0À5 mm. diameter with a needle of 0À8 mm. maximum diameter. The seat is fully formed by operating the valve to force the needle in until there is no detectable leakage between inlet 2 and outlet 3, withdrawing and advancing the needle again until there is a perceptible change in reaction of the screw drive, and then setting adjustable stop screws 14, 15. A spring 19 takes up backlash. The holder 7 is fixed to a bellows 8 fast at its other end with the body. The seat may be of copper or brass and is retained by a screwed sleeve 4. The needle may be of hard polished steel. The outside thread on the sleeve is of 20% greater pitch than the inside thread.
