Abstract

988,894. Valves. DAMIC CONTROLS Ltd. Nov. 7, 1963 [Nov. 9, 1962], No. 42491/62. Heading F2V. An 0-type sealing ring 6 is retained upon a cylindrical portion 10 of a frusto-conical closure portion 1 by the screw-threaded engagement of a closure body portion 2 thereupon, whereby the ring 6 is distorted by the compression into an undercut 14; the end 12 of the screw thread being peened over. The closure member, whereof the cylindrical part of the body portion 2 slides upon longitudinal flats within circular bore 15, is resiliently urged upon seat 4 by a spring 8. The angle of the frusto-conical parts 1 and 3 may be the same, and that of the part 1 may differ from that of the seating 4 to reduce the contact therebetween. Preferably, the angle of the part 3 differs from that of the part 1 and is staggered therefrom to permit fluid pressure to act, via longitudinal grooves between the flats around the cylindrical surface of the part 2, to urge seal 6 on to the seat 4. The valve closure may be displaced off its seating by a spigot 7.
