Abstract
580,816. Fluid - actuated valves. BAXTER, B., and KANDARIAN, S. M. March 7, 1944, Nos. 4249 and 4250. Convention dates, Feb. 22, 1943, and Jan. 31, 1944. [Class 135] A valve suitable for insertion between a manual regulating valve on a gas storage vessel and the reducing valve in a gas welding system to prevent pressure surges reaching the reducing valve comprises a valve member 14 retained open by a spring 11 and having flutes on its external surface through which the gas passes to the outlet 13. The end of the valve is recessed at 18 and a-bleed passage 19 is controlled by a screw 22. When a sudden high inlet pressure exists, the valve 14 is closed and the gas leaks through the bleed passage 19 until the pressure in the outlet gradually increases and the valve again opens. In a modification shown in Fig. 4, the end of the valve 14a has a cavity 18a into which projects the end 25 of a fitting 24 on the inlet end of the housing ; this arrangement increases the effect of the sudden high pressure on the closing of the valve. The bleed passage is formed in this case around the thread of the screw 22 by making the bore 19a in the valve oversize before tapping ; a filter disc 27 is fitted adjacent the head of the screw 22.
