Abstract

1402854 Regulating fluid-flow BRYAN DONKIN CO Ltd 29 Aug 1972 [8 Sept 1971 5 Nov 1971] 41928/71 and 51543/71 Heading G3H [Also in Division F2] A flow limiting device, which is designed to be incorporated in a flow line upstream of a conventional pressure regulator Fig. 1 (not shown), for limiting the flow-rate through the regulator in the event of failure of the latter, comprises a housing 52 having internally tapered inlet and outlet inserts 54 and 56, respectively, and a valve member 62. The valve member has one end tapered so as to co-operate with an opening 78 of insert 56 whilst the other end is enlarged and fluted as at 70 such that when this enlarged end is engaged with insert 54, under the action of a spring 68, flow still takes place between the enlarged end and the inlet insert. Increasing of flow-rate causes the valve member to move against the spring bias and, in the extreme, to engage the outlet insert 56, such engagement being by way of projections 74 which prevent complete closure of the outlet opening 78. Accordingly the maximum flow-rate through the device is independent of the pressure differential thereacross.
