Abstract

A combined gas pressure regulator and safety valve comprises safety and regulating closure members 10, 11 carried by a common stem 9 secured to a diaphragm 4. The latter is loaded by springs 5, 14 the former of which is not effective until the outlet pressure as communicated to chamber 16 enters the diaphragm to disengage a flange of spring seat 7 from housing flange 8. Thus, when the system is idle or the gas supply fails, spring 14 urges the stem downwards to seat the safety closure member 10. To open the valve, a by-pass closure member 23 is unseated by depressing button 21 to allow gas flow to the outlet 3 via passages 26, 25, 27. When the outlet pressure rises to a value predetermined by the load exerted by spring 5, closure member 11 seats. In the modified bypass valve of Fig. 4 (not shown), resilient closure member (32) is unseated by pulling knot (21) to allow gas flow via passages (31, 26, 27).
