Locking catches.- The body a' of a gas tap is recessed to receive a sliding sleeve c which is pressed outwards by a spring d so that a notch in it engages with the thump-piece b of the tap in its "off" position. The plug b and thumbpiece b<1> are in one piece. The sleeve c must be pressed inwards to release the part b<1> so that the tap may be turned on. The compression of the spring has no tendency to press the plug toward or away from its seating.
