[Class 135.] Locking catches.-An improved self-locking gas &c. tap or cock comprises an operating handle in the form of a plate g pivoted to the plug d and having integral therewith a thumb-piece h. The thumbpiece is disposed in a plane to one side of the plane containing the axes of the plug and the plate g when the handle is in the extended operative position, as shown. Whenever, therefore, the tap is turned off the handle will fall by gravity, when released, into locking engagement with the valve body a whether the axis of the plug is vertical or horizontal. For this purpose the upper edge e of the casing is provided with a slot into which the heel or lug k<1> falls into locking position. In operation the handle is turned up until the lug k at the other side abuts on the upper edge e of the casing, as shown.
