495,476. Gas cocks. GENERAL GAS APPLIANCES, Ltd., and FRANCIS, W. R. March 13, 1937, No. 7397. [Class 135] A gas cock of the kind fitted with a locking catch actuated by a sliding movement of the main actuating knob or handle on the outside of an extension of the cock plug has the actuating knob formed of a metal-bush c with a moulded outer shell d secured thereto by a cap c<2> closing the end of the bush. In the form shown in the Figure the bush is formed with an enlarged part c<1> having diametrically opposed inturned segmental flanges g adapted, under the influence of a spring f, to engage locking recesses formed between similar flanges h on the cock body. A headed screw e prevents the bush from sliding off the squared extension on the plug. In a modification a locking washer slidably mounted on the squared extension is held by a spring against the flanged end of the bush and has projections adapted to co-operate with recesses in a cover plate secured to the cock body. In a further modification the extension is slotted to accommodate a pivoted locking catch pinned to a lug on the bush.
