Abstract
473,048. Plug cocks. HANSEN, C. V. Feb. 8, 1937, No. 3755. [Class 135] A plug cock of the kind in which the plug is completely enclosed by the casing has an operating arm projecting through a slot in the casing wall and loosely mounted in or on the plug in such manner that the arm may be moved into engagement with a locking recess or recesses. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the operating arm 6 is formed with a spherical enlargement housed in a central recess 11 formed on the plug. A spring 4, at one end surrounding a boss 14 on a removable cap 3 and at the other entering an annular groove 15 surrounding the recess 11, bears on the arm 6 to hold both arm and plug in position. The arm passes to the outside through a slot 5 having one or more locking notches or recesses along its lower edge. In a modification, the spherical enlargement merely rests on top of the plug in which case a sleeve surrounds the arm between the enlargement and the casing to prevent the withdrawal of the arm. In another modification, the enlargement is cylindrical and is accommodated in notches in two parallel cross ribs on the upper end of the plug. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the actuating arm 6 has a reduced part 28 engaged by a spring-loaded bifurcated locking piece 27 housed in a recess 26 in the plug.
