Abstract

526,708. Plug-cocks. TOWNSON & COXSON, Ltd., and KIMBERLEY, J. March 25, 1939, No. 9380. [Class 135] A plug-cock of the kind in which the plug is separate from the actuating spindle which is both slidable and rotatable has an externally disposed member on this spindle adapted to co-operate with an external forwardly projecting stop-abutment in the casing to lock the cock in its closed position. The plug 1 has the usual nighting washer 6 secured to its small end and at the large end is formed with a square socket adapted to receive a corresponding part 8 on the actuating spindle 2. This spindle is formed with a circular flange 11 slidable in a recessed part of the casing and held normally in contact with a removable cover plate 15 by a spring 13. In this position a circular plate with a projecting nose gripped between a shoulder on the spindle and the operating knob. 10 is in locking engagement with an abutment 18 on the casing. To open the cock the knob is pressed inwardly to move the nose 20 out of the plane of the abutment 18, the cock can then be turned and functional contact between the plate 17 and abutment 18 will hold the plug in its adjusted position.
