Abstract

480,364. Door handles &c. RAMSELL, H. G., and TAYLOR, J. W. Aug. 27, 1936, Nos. 23519 and 30118. [Class 44] A spring-loaded door knob has fixed to it a member which engages one end of a loading spring and also co-operates with an adjustable stop to limit its movement. This stop may be adjusted or removed to permit movement of the member to a position in which the action of the spring on the handle is reversed. The handle 7 has attached to it a member 10 which has a lug 12 engaging the end of the spring 4 and recesses 13 and 14, either of which may co-operate with a stop 15 to limit movement of the handle and member. To reverse the action of the handle and the spring, the stop 15 is removed, the handle turned through 180‹, and the stop 15 replaced. This allows the lug 12 to engage the other end of the spring, and the end previously in engagement abuts against the lugs 5, 6 of the spring housing. These lugs 5, 6 are constructed so as to allow the passage of the lug 12 during this movement. A modification in which the spring and housing are arranged on the face of the door separate from the rose plate as well as various methods of making the stop and co-operating member are described. The spring-loaded door handle, Fig. 18, is rotatable in either direction, the lug 31 being adapted to engage either end of the spring 26, the other end of which will engage the fixed abutments 29, 30.
