Definitions
- the invention relates to a can lid with a tightly resealable opening according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- Such a resealable can lid is from the EN 10 2010 013 531 A1 known.
- a can lid with a resealable opening is known in which an opening is made in the metal can lid and the edge of this opening is flanged to create an anchoring option for a prefabricated plastic closure part.
- the plastic closure part comprises a base part to be connected to the flanged edge of the can opening, in which an opening is formed that is closed by a flat plug.
- the flat plug is connected to the edge of the opening via a plastic tear seam, so that the flat plug connected to a tear tab can be released from the plastic base part and pivoted into an open position by pulling on the tear tab.
- the opening can be temporarily closed again by pressing in the flat plug, which is preferably conical on its underside.
- a can lid with a resealable opening is known, in which the metal can lid also an opening is made into which a prefabricated, tearable plastic closure part is inserted, the prefabricated plastic element having a double flange on the edge into which the edge of the punched-out can opening engages and is fixed therein.
- the prefabricated plastic element comprises a closure part which is connected to the peripheral edge of the plastic part via a tear seam.
- a tear tab connected to the closure part makes it possible to tear open the plastic tear seam between the peripheral area of the plastic part and the lid part and in this way to expose the can opening.
- the closure part which preferably remains connected to the peripheral area via a tab area, can be pressed back into the opening.
- a resealable can lid is known, which is designed in particular to avoid the formation of sharp edges, such as those that occur when tearing open conventional tin cans using a tab.
- a prefabricated plastic part is snapped into a cutout in the metal can lid.
- This part has a lid part that is connected to the base part that is snapped into the can opening via a thin plastic wall.
- the thin connecting wall between the closure part and the base part can be destroyed using a tear-open tab, and the can opening can be exposed.
- the closure part is designed in such a way that it engages in the base part via a snap-lock connection to reclose the opening.
- a beverage can with a press-in lid closure is known in which the tear tab is rotatably mounted on the lid wall and a closure element is provided on it which, when the tear tab is rotated from the tear-open position to a closing position above the open pouring opening, is taken along and covers the pouring opening or engages in it to close it.
- a beverage can is known with a lid made of sheet metal, in which a weakening line is formed and the lid part delimited by the weakening line can be removed by means of a pull tab, wherein a closure part for the removal opening, which can be pivoted essentially parallel to the lid surface, is captively attached to the lid.
- a metal lid for beverage cans which has a pre-punched pouring opening in the lid surface, which is tightly closed by means of a closure element and can be closed again after the first opening.
- the lid and closure element can be connected to one another in a form-fitting manner by means of bayonet-like interlocking elements which are formed directly from the lid material or the closure element.
- the object of the present invention is to further develop the resealable can lid according to the preamble of patent claim 1 in such a way that, while maintaining a high-quality, gas- and liquid-tight closure, the functionality is further improved and, above all, the process of opening the can is made easier or the effort required for this is reduced and that, furthermore, due to the structural design, the production of the can lid can be simplified, made more cost-effective and the automatic assembly can be made significantly more favorable compared to previous solutions.
- the collar part and the lid receiving part each have a plurality of molded-on projections arranged in a ring-shaped distribution, that these projections extend through adapted openings in the metallic lid part, and that the collar part and the lid receiving part are connected to the metallic lid part in a form-fitting and force-fitting and sealed manner by rivet-like deformation of the projections under the influence of heat, with the interposition of an adhesion-promoting layer.
- the adhesion-promoting or sealing layer which reacts at elevated temperature extends over both surfaces of the metallic lid part, i.e. over the outer and inner surface of this lid part.
- the sealing layer provided which can be a sealing wax, ensures that the plastic materials are tightly and firmly bonded to the metal parts, which is preferably done by heat sealing at an elevated temperature, for example at around 150°C to 160°C.
- One embodiment is characterized in that the opening area delimited by a circumferential tear line is connected to the adjacent lid area by a weakening groove which is partially broken through, in particular in the start and end areas associated with the tearing movement.
- the force required to open the closure can be reduced in a defined manner, whereby the tightness is also reliably guaranteed in this case by the layer of plastic material provided and firmly attached to the underside of the metallic lid over the entire surface or the correspondingly attached plastic film.
- the collar part, the lid receiving part and the pull tab are made of the same plastic material, in particular polypropylene, and are formed by a single injection-molded part connected by connecting tabs, which can be converted into an assembly unit by folding and can be connected to the metallic lid part in one connecting step via the projections assigned to the openings in the metallic lid part.
- the metal can lid is provided on both sides with the aforementioned sealing layer, which makes it possible to injection mold all plastic components or plastic parts from a single component, in particular polypropylene, in one process and still ensure firm and tight connections with the metal can lid.
- the three interconnected components made from the same plastic component are folded onto one another so that an element is created which can be riveted and heat-sealed by pressing the projections provided on the plastic parts into the can lid areas provided with the corresponding openings, whereby the sealing layer takes effect.
- the cover receiving part in order to ensure the long-term tightness of the overall arrangement, is tightly connected to this metallic cover part by heat sealing.
- the pull tab preferably has at least one projection extending to the metallic lid part, which is connected to the lid part during a sealing step.
- a snap-locking connection that is generally particularly advantageous for closures of containers with a lid part is characterized in that the snap-locking connection between the collar part and the lid receiving part consists of a coupling and sealing rib provided on the lid receiving part, which engages in a first adapted recess in the collar part, and a pre-tensioning and locking lip, which engages in a second recess of the collar part and presses the wall rib between the two recesses against the coupling and sealing rib.
- a further embodiment which is particularly advantageous regardless of the type of connection of the plastic parts to the metal parts and regardless of whether only one plastic material or several plastic materials are used, is characterized in that the opening area of the metal can lid is separated from the lid surface surrounding it by a cutting, in particular punching, process to form interlocking projections and recesses, that the opening area and the lid surface surrounding it are held together as one component in a form-fitting and force-fitting manner via these projections and recesses, and that the tightness of the finished, unopened can lid is ensured by the internal plastic coating or film.
- the projections and recesses are preferably coupled via undercuts.
- This particularly important embodiment of the invention in which the opening area of the can lid is first cut out or punched out to form a toothed structure and immediately thereafter this punched-out lid opening area is pressed into the toothing of the remaining part of the can lid, so that again a one-piece structure is present, which is brought to the next station in production and connected to the plastic part can be achieved, means that the hinged lid part can be opened completely without chips and the opening process can be carried out with very little effort.
- no metal weakening grooves need to be torn open during the opening process, since the metal areas to be separated from each other are already completely separated from each other by the punching process.
- the tightness of this arrangement is also guaranteed by the internal plastic film, which has a circumferential weakening point or notch immediately adjacent to the opening area, so that the opening process is not made more difficult by this film which ensures tightness.
- Fig.1 shows a can lid 1 made of metal with a conventional basic shape, which is connected to the corresponding can in a liquid- and gas-tight manner via a flanged edge 2 with the interposition of a sealing material.
- a resealable opening is integrated into this lid, offset off-center, as will be explained in more detail.
- FIG.1 A collar part 5 connected to a tear-open tab 15 can be seen, which encloses the opening area and is firmly connected to the can lid surface 23.
- a lid receiving part 10 encloses the opening area 11 and can be swung up by means of the tab 15 during the opening process.
- a buckling spring element 22 ensures that the swung up lid is held in the open position, in particular when it is swung open from more than an angle of 90°.
- Fig.1 It can also be seen that the resealable opening with all its associated components is arranged off-centre in such a way that, despite the presence of the resealable opening, the stackability is unchanged, as with conventional cans.
- the protrusion of the components of the resealable opening over the can surface is only about 2 mm.
- Fig.2 shows the metallic can lid designed as a stamped part of an advantageous embodiment of the invention before connection with the associated plastic components of the resealable lid.
- This illustration shows continuous openings 31 which serve to connect the plastic components to the metal can lid and are arranged in a ring shape on both sides of a weakening groove or tear-open notch 4.
- a special feature of the design of the weakening groove or tear-open notch 4 is that, in contrast to conventional solutions, it is not continuous, but has perforations 36 which have the advantageous effect of making the opening process easier, i.e. reducing the force required to open the hinged lid part.
- These perforations 36 are formed during the punching process of the lid, but allow the lid part to remain as a single punched part.
- the tightness to be guaranteed by the can lid is not impaired by the perforations 36 because the required tightness is ensured by an internal sealing film which extends over the entire inner can lid surface and also into the flange area.
- Fig.3 shows a cross-sectional view of the can lid according to the Fig.1 and 2 , where the arrangement is shown in the closed state.
- the area of the can lid located within the tear line 4, ie the opening area 11, is enclosed by a lid receiving part 10 made of plastic, which is firmly and tightly connected to this metallic area by means of a plurality of molded projections 32 which are formed by the Fig.2 shown openings 31.
- a firm connection is produced by rivet-like deformation of these projections 32 under the influence of heat, but it is essential that an adhesion promoter that reacts under heat is provided on the contact surfaces between the plastic part and the metal part.
- both the outer surface and the inner surface of the metal can lid are coated with a suitable material that acts as an adhesion promoter, in particular in the manner of a sealing wax, so that the adhesion promoter is available wherever it is needed for connection and sealing purposes.
- a collar part 5 made of plastic material is provided radially outside the opening area, which is connected to the metallic can lid in the same way as the lid receiving part 10 via projections 30 passing through openings 31.
- connection technology between the metal lid and the plastic components is that the metal stamping and the plastic parts can be manufactured separately, no metal overmolding processes are required and the connection between the metal can lid and the plastic components can be made in one operation when the plastic components are applied to the metal surface and the projections 30 penetrate the openings 31.
- Fig.4 shows a design principle that can generally be used for snap-lock connections and is advantageously also used for the resealable can lid according to the invention.
- two circumferential ribs are provided on the cover receiving part 10, namely an external coupling and sealing rib 34 and an internal pre-tensioning and locking rib 35.
- the coupling and sealing rib 34 engages in a first recess 39 of the collar part 5 in a sealing manner, while the pre-tensioning and locking rib 35 extends into a second recess 40 of the collar part 5 and a snap-locking connection is created between this rib and the recess.
- this rib 35 is dimensioned and designed in such a way that, when locked, it presses against the middle wall rib 41 of the collar part, so that this wall part is pressed against the sealing rib 39 and the sealing effect is thus even more reliable and better.
- Fig.4 also shows that the metallic can lid is covered on both sides and over its entire surface with an adhesion-promoting layer 37, which also makes it possible to fix the outer edge of the lid receiving part 10, which rests against the metallic can lid surface, in a sealing manner via the adhesion-promoting layer in order to improve the tightness of a filled can.
- a resealable can lid must not only meet requirements in terms of tightness, but above all it must be ensured that the can can be opened easily and with little effort.
- the pull tab 15 which is easy and convenient to grip, contributes to this, but above all it is essential for the invention that the required tearing force is as low as possible.
- This objective is met by the aforementioned provision of openings 36 along the tear line or the weakening groove, and in addition the inner plastic film 26 is provided with a circumferential weakening notch 38 adjacent to the tear line, so that the film 26 cannot interfere with the opening process.
- FIG. 5a to 5c show a particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, which consists in that all plastic components of the resealable can lid are made of the same plastic material and thus these plastic components can be manufactured in a single injection molding process.
- the collar part 5, the lid receiving part 10 and the pull tab 15 are injection molded in one plane and connected to one another by connecting tabs 42, so that a practically one-piece overall structure is obtained which can be handled as a unit in the manufacturing process and only needs to be folded onto one another for assembly on the can lid, so that the projections 30 of the collar part 5 and the lid receiving part 10, which are then approximately concentric to one another, can be pressed through the openings 31 in the metal can lid in a single pressing process and then deformed in the manner already described.
- Fig.6 shows a particularly preferred embodiment of a can lid according to the invention, wherein the in this Fig.6 shown metallic can lid part in particular with the plastic elements according to Fig.5 can be combined to form a finished resealable can lid.
- the opening area 11 of the metal can lid is separated from the surrounding outer, solid lid surface 43 by a cutting or, in particular, punching process, thereby forming interlocking projections 32 and recesses 33, as is the case, for example, in Fig.6 is shown.
- the two initially separated parts are joined together again in a form-fitting manner, so that the two parts practically become one part again, which can be handled as an individual part.
- the processes of separating and joining take place directly one after the other, ie the punching stroke is followed by the positive joining of both parts to form a complete part in the return stroke.
- the positive and non-positive connection between the two parts is achieved by suitable shaping or by using undercuts, which ensure sufficient mutual ensure a mechanical connection in order to be able to handle the parts that have already been separated from each other as a uniform assembly part in production.
- collar part 5 and lid receiving part 10 are tightly and permanently connected to the metal can lid part in the manner already explained and the snap-lock connection is engaged.
- the tightness is ensured by the film 26 extending up to the flanged edge.
- the tear line 4 is formed by the dividing line between the interlocking projections 32 and recesses 33.
- the projections 32 and recesses 33 defining the tear line are disengaged, but no weakened metal areas need to be separated from one another with the formation of chips, but only the existing form-fitting connection needs to be released, which can be done with significantly less force than is required to tear open a still existing metal connection between the two parts to be separated from one another.
- the above-mentioned use of the weakening notch 38 in the inner sealing film contributes to the fact that the requirements placed on such a resealable can lid in terms of both tightness and minimized opening force can be optimally met, while at the same time ensuring economical production and assembly of all can lid components.

- In
Fig. 2 gezeigten Öffnungen 31 erstrecken.
Fig. 6 gezeigt ist.
