Definitions
- the invention relates to a screw pump for conveying metal melts with a pump tube which can be supported by a mounting flange and which forms a lower melt inlet and an upper melt outlet, and a pump shaft which is mounted on a drive motor which can be fitted on the mounting flange and runs inside the pump tube, in the lower end region of the Pump pipe for the pump shaft in the height range between the melt inlet and outlet carrying a screw conveyor a guide is provided.
- Such a pump is known from DE-C-868 110.
- a prerequisite for the correct loading of casting machines or the like is the possibility of a functionally reliable and meterable melt conveyance, in particular from containers such as melting or holding furnaces, whereby flow rates usually have to be managed below 100 l / min and continuous use or intermittent operation occurs .
- flow rates usually have to be managed below 100 l / min and continuous use or intermittent operation occurs .
- the highest demands are placed on conveying devices for conveying metal melts and so far there has been practically no really satisfactory melt pump.
- the well-known screw pumps e.g.
- the invention is therefore based on the object of eliminating these deficiencies and of creating a worm pump of the type described at the outset which, when fully utilizing its advantages specific to the worm, is ideally suited for conveying melt.
- the invention according to claim 1 solves this problem in that the pump shaft above the melt outlet has a joint with a swivel axis running transversely to the pump axis, preferably a universal joint, and the lower shaft guide forms a holder that offers a swivel movement play to the shaft.
- the universal joint and shaft guide allow the pump shaft, in addition to its rotary movement, to perform a compensating movement for absorbing temperature-related expansions and deformations, so that the functionally reliable operation of the screw pump is ensured in a rational manner.
- the universal joint it is of course also possible to use a ball joint or another joint with a swivel axis running transversely to the pump axis, which permits a kind of pendulum movement of the shaft part immersed in the melt.
- a ball bearing-like slide bearing made of ceramic material or a spherical roller bearing can preferably be used made of chrome-nickel steel, which bearings not only allow a rotational movement and possibly an axial displacement movement, but also a pivoting movement of the shaft in the bearing area.
- the pump tube is composed of a tube section made of chrome-nickel steel forming the upper melt outlet and a mouthpiece made of ceramic material attached to it below, which has the melt inlet and the shaft guide, since this creates a temperature-resistant, sufficiently firm and resilient pump tube results.
- melt outlet forms an outlet chamber that widens compared to the cross-section of the pump tube, material accumulations and blockages in the delicate outlet area and thus the risk of functional solidification phenomena are avoided. If the clear cross-section of the pump tube extends above the screw conveyor, the melt flow inside the pump tube after the screw can be calmed and the risk of freezing of the metal can also be eliminated here.
- a screw pump 1 for conveying molten metal consists of a pump tube 3 which is suspended from a mounting flange 2 and a drive motor 4 mounted on the mounting flange 2 with a pump shaft 5 running through the pump tube 3, the mounting flange 2 being movable via support springs 6 on a ceiling part which is only indicated 7 of a melt container or the like is attached.
- the pump pipe 3 is composed of a pipe section 3a made of chrome nickel steel and a lower mouthpiece 3b made of ceramic material and forms an upper melt outlet 8 and a lower melt inlet 9.
- the melt outlet 8 has an outlet chamber 10 which is enlarged compared to the pipe section 3a and the melt inlet 9 results from symmetrically arranged inlet openings 9a in the mouthpiece 3b.
- the pump shaft 5 carries a screw conveyor 11 above the melt inlet 9 in the area of the mouthpiece 3b, the pipe section 3a expanding after the screw conveyor 11 with respect to the clear cross section compared to the mouthpiece 3b.
- a universal joint 12 is installed in the pump shaft 5 above the melt outlet 8 and there is a slide bearing 13 made of ceramic material for shaft guidance in the mouthpiece 3b, which is inserted in a bearing bush 14 like a ball joint.
- the screw pump 1 is particularly suitable for conveying the melt, since on the one hand the materials used with sufficient strength and stability can withstand the extreme temperature conditions in the melt bath and on the other hand due to the shaft bearings which offer compensatory movement play a temperature-related deformation and expansion can be given functionally.
- the resilient suspension of the entire pump also leads to a corresponding compensation of the bath movement when the melt freezes, which is further compounded by the fact that the widening flow path within the pump tube and the widening outlet chamber at the melt outlet ensure a low-turbulence flow of the melt and so that the risk of the melt freezing and solidifying within the pump is eliminated.
