Definitions
- the invention relates to a process for working up slags obtained during the desulfurization of pig iron melts with sodium carbonate.
- Pig iron melts are treated to remove sulfur by adding sodium carbonate as a slag former. These soda slags are a landfill problem and contain a large amount of sodium, which is required for desulfurization.
- Soda ash is therefore processed to recover its sodium content and to reduce landfill problems.
- the sodium content is recovered in the form of sodium carbonate and added again for desulfurization.
- the sodium carbonate must contain little sulfur and silicon.
- the object of the invention is to enable the slag to be processed with as high a sodium recovery as possible, with only solid residues which can be readily deposited, no waste water being produced and a very pure sodium carbonate being produced.
- warm slag at about 40 to 80 ° C. is preferably used in the slag refraction and slag grinding.
- the slags are ground to a final fineness of about 3 to 5 mm at maximum and the ground slag is stored temporarily in order to avoid undesired oxidation reactions, preferably under an inert gas atmosphere.
- the pH in the first leaching stage is adjusted so that at least 10% of the Si0 2 present in the slag goes into solution there.
- the required pH value can be set in the first leaching stage by appropriate selection of the ratio of slag to leaching liquid or, if this is not possible, by adding CO 2 .
- the pH is lowered so far and the residence time is chosen so long that the SiO 2 dissolved in solution in the first stage largely fails again. Due to this two-stage leaching with different pH values, on the one hand a very good leaching of the sodium content of the slag and on the other hand the Si0 2 content in the subsequent filtrate is kept low. If the amount of washing liquid is too small for the leaching, make-up water is added.
- washing liquid with a relatively low sodium content of about 20 to 40 g / l has the advantage that the sodium content of the slag is well leached out and still lye liquids with a sodium content close to the saturation limit are obtained.
- a relatively large amount of water can be used when washing the residue, since the washing water is returned to the process, which in turn allows the sodium content of the residue to be kept very low without waste water being produced.
- a preferred embodiment consists in that to adjust the pH in the first Leaching stage (a) C0 2 is initiated.
- the desired pH value in the first leaching stage can be very precisely maintained and quickly corrected even with fluctuations in the slag composition.
- a preferred embodiment consists in that the second leaching stage (c) is carried out in two stages one after the other. As a result, the necessary residence time can be achieved with small aggregates, and there is an improvement in the Si0 2 precipitation.
- a preferred embodiment consists in that the washing of the residue is carried out in several stages according to (e). Washing is preferably carried out in countercurrent between the washing water and the residue. This results in a particularly good washing out of the sodium content of the residue.
- a preferred embodiment is that to recover the sodium carbonate from the filtrate according to (f), the filtrate is evaporated to the saturation limit, carbonate crystallization is carried out, the crystals are separated from the mother liquor, washed and dried, the majority of the mother liquor and the washing water is returned to the evaporation, the remaining partial stream is freed of impurities and then returned to the evaporation or crystallization, the amount of the partial stream being selected so that the impurities contained in it correspond to the amount that is introduced with the filtrate .
- the filtrate is evaporated to about the maximum possible sodium concentration. This is in the temperature range from about 30 to 40 ° C.
- the carbonate crystallization is preferably carried out by cooling below 20 ° C.
- the crystals can be separated from the mother liquor by centrifugation while washing the crystals with water at the same time. Drying of the crystals can be followed by a calcination.
- the return of the washing water to the evaporation has the advantage that the sodium content discharged with it is recovered and no waste water is produced. By cleaning the remaining partial flow, an accumulation of the impurities, in particular sulfur compounds, in the circuit above the maximum permissible values is avoided.
- the maximum permissible value for sulfur impurities in the mother liquor must be set.
- a preferred embodiment consists in that an amount of lime calculated for the content of sulfate, sulfite and carbonate is added to remove the remaining partial flow of impurities, the precipitated residue is separated off and washed, and the filtrate and washing filtrate are evaporated to the saturation limit Crystallization Na 2 S 2 O 3 . 5 H 2 0 is crystallized out, the crystals are separated from the mother liquor and washed, and the mother liquor and the washing filtrate are returned to the evaporation of the filtrate according to (f) or to the carbonate crystallization.
- CaCOs, CaS0 4 and CaS0 3 are precipitated to form NaOH, which is recovered as Na 2 CO 3 . The precipitated and washed residue is deposited.
- the crystallization is preferably carried out by cooling.
- the Na 2 S 2 0 3 . 5 H 2 0 represents a sales product. In this way, cleaning of the remaining partial stream is possible in a simple manner, with only one waste product being produced which can be easily deposited.
- a preferred embodiment consists in that a sufficient amount of H 2 0 2 for the oxidation of the Na 2 S 2 0 3 content is added to free the remaining partial flow of impurities and the Na z S0 4 formed in the process together with the sulfate introduced with the partial flow , Sulfite and carbonate is precipitated by adding a sufficient amount of lime, the precipitated residue is separated off and washed, and the filtrate and wash filtrate are returned to the evaporation of the filtrate according to (f) or to the carbonate crystallization. This also makes it easy to clean the rest of the partial stream, producing only one waste product that is easy to deposit.
- a preferred embodiment is that the ratio of Na 2 CO 3 to NaHCOs in the leaching is adjusted via the pH so that this is in the evaporation of the filtrate according to (f) or in the carbonate crystallization from the cleaning of the rest Partial recycled NaOH with the NaHCOs in the filtrate according to (f) reacts stoichiometrically to Na 2 CO s . This enables the sodium to be obtained in a single compound.
- NaOH is added before the crystallization of the sodium carbonate to convert NaHCOs to Na 2 CO 3 .
- the NaOH can be added before or after the evaporation. This also enables the sodium to be obtained in a single compound.
- One embodiment consists in that after evaporation of the filtrate according to (f) up to the saturation limit C0 2 is initiated to form NaHCOs and the crystals are converted into Na z C0 3 by thermal treatment. This procedure reduces the amount of water that must be expelled when the crystals are dried, but a higher temperature must be used to form NazCO 3 .
- a preferred embodiment is that the residue is washed in accordance with (e) with the condensates from the evaporation. In this way, both the condensate from the evaporation of the filtrate according to (f) and the condensate from the evaporation of the filtrate when cleaning the remaining partial stream are recycled and there is no waste water.
- a preferred embodiment consists of treating the exhaust gas from the leaching stages and the exhaust gas from the evaporation of the filtrate according to (f). This is what is driven out H 2 S removed prior to release into the atmosphere.
- the advantages of the invention are that a very good sodium yield of over 80% is achieved and at the same time the content of water-soluble sodium in the residue is reduced so much that problem-free landfilling is possible.
- the soda produced is very pure. The process works wastewater-free and only produces residues that are easy to deposit.
