Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf einen Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis.
- Polymerschäume mit Zellstruktur sind allgemein bekannt, s. US-A-4 053 548. Polyurethanschäume stehen repräsentativ dafür. Sie haben charakteristische Eigenschaften, wie Elastizität und Wärmedämmung, und es gibt eine Reihe von Marktprodukten, die diese Eigenschaften nutzen. Diese Schäume wurden gewöhnlich in eine gewünschte Form gebracht und dann im geformten Zustand verwendet, ausgenommen der Fall, bei dem unmittelbar die Form an Ort und Stelle erbracht wird.
- Im Bereich des Formens mit festen Polymeren sind polymere Formen mit Formgedächtnis vorgeschlagen worden, die eine formierte und eine deformierte Gestalt in Abhängigkeit von der Temperatur annehmen.
- Polymere Formen mit Formgedächtnis bleiben deformiert, wenn sie bei einer Temperatur über dem Glasübergangspunkt (kurz Tg genannt) des Polymers und unterhalb der Formtemperatur deformiert werden und dann unter Tg im deformierten Zustand gekühlt werden. Geformte Polymere mit Formgedächtnis in deformiertem Zustand erhalten ihre ursprüngliche geformte Gestalt wieder, wenn sie auf eine Temperatur über Tg und niedriger als die Formtemperatur erhitzt werden. Mit anderen Worten, geformte Polymere mit Formgedächtnis nehmen die Gestalt, in der sie geformt wurden, und die deformierte Gestalt in Abhängigkeit der Temperatur an.
- Mittlerweile sind polymere Schäume für ihr Gewicht extrem voluminös, da sie mit einer großen Anhahl an Zellen hergestellt werden. Diese Sperrigkeit behindert ihren Transport von der formgebenden Fabrik zu dem Platz der Anwendung. Sie wären bequem zu transportieren, wenn sie ein kleines Volumen zum Zeitpunkt des Transports hätten und ihre vorgeschriebene GröBe zum Zeitpunkt der Verwendung wiedererhalten würden.
- Es wurde jedoch noch kein Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis vorgeschlagen, der eine deformierte Gestalt und eine Gestalt, wie geformt, je nach Anwendung annimmt.
- Es ist Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung einen Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis-Eigenschaften zur Verfügung zu stellen, der eine deformierte Gestalt und eine Gestalt, wie geformt, je nach seiner Anwendung annimmt.
- Das Wesentliche der vorliegenden Erfindung beruht auf einem Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis, der eine deformierte Gestalt und eine Gestalt, wie geformt, annimmt, wobei man die deformierte Gestalt erhält, wenn man den Polymerschaum bei einer Temperatur über dem Glasübergangspunkt des Polymers komprimiert und dann bei einer Temperatur unter dem Glasübergangspunkt komprimiert hält, bis der komprimierte Zustand sich verfestigt hat, und die Gestalt, wie geformt, erhält, indem man den komprimierten Polymerschaum wieder auf eine Temperatur über dem Glasübergangspunkt erhitzt, bis er seine ursprüngliche Form wieder annimmt.
- Der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis der vorliegenden Erfindung kann, wie gefordert, leicht deformiert werden, und durch einfaches Erwärmen wird die ursprüngliche Form (Gestalt, wie geformt) wieder zurückerhalten.
- Der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis der vorliegenden Erfindung nimmt zwei Formen an, wobei die erstere konventionell geformtem Schaum entspricht und die zweite dem Schaum entspricht, der einer Deformation und einer Verfestigung des komprimierten Zustandes unterzogen wurde. Falls der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis eine offene Zellstruktur besitzt, kann er hervorragend durch das Zusammendrücken der Zellen mit vergleichsweise geringer Gewalt deformiert werden. Wenn der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis eine geschlossene Zellstruktur besitzt, erhält er seine ursprüngliche Form schnell zurück aufgrund der Expansion des Gases, das zur Zeit der Deformation in den Zellen komprimiert wurde.
- Dem Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis kann man, wie einem Modul, gewünschte physikalische Eigenschaften geben, das in seinen zwei Gestalten variiert. Deshalb wird er viele Anwendungen entsprechend seiner Gestalten und seiner physikalischen Eigenschaften finden. So könnte z.B. ein Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis aus einem Polymer, dessen Tg nahe Raumtemperatur liegt, leicht bei nachfolgender Verfestigung in die vom Anwender gewünschte Gestalt gebracht werden bei Verwendung von vertrauten Heizgeräten wie einem Fön.
- Der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis der vorliegenden Erfindung kann aus Urethanpolymeren, Styrol-Butadienpolymeren, kristallinen polymeren Dienen, Norbornanpolymeren und ähnlichen hergestellt werden.
- Bevorzugt unter den Polymerschäumen mit Formgedächtnis ist ein Polyurethanschaum, der durch eine vorausgegangene Polymerisation eines Gemisches entstanden ist, das sich aus einem difünktionellen Diisocyanat, einem difünktionellen Polyol und einem difunktionellen Kettenverlängerer mit aktivem Wasserstoff, im Mol-Verhältnis 2.00 - 1.10 : 1.00 : 1.00 - 0.10, vorzugsweise 1.80 - 1.20 : 1.00 : 0.80 - 0.20 zusammensetzt, sowie einem Treibmittel. Besagtes Polyurethan enthält annähernd die gleiche Anzahl an Isocyanatgruppen (NCO) und Hydroxylgruppen (OH) an den Enden der polymeren Ketten und besitzt einen Tg im Bereich von -50 - 60ºC und ein Kristallgehalt von 30 - 50 Gew.-%.
- Der Polyurethanschaum ist aus polymeren Ketten aufgebaut, die keinen nnmhaften Überschuß an Isocyanatgruppen an ihren Enden haben und zudem keine allophanate Bindeglieder besitzt, die starre Quervernetzungen bilden. Das bedeutet, daß der Polyurethanschaum ein thermoplastisches Kettenpolymer darstellt, das bei Erwärmung bearbeitet werden kann. Zudem stellt dieses Kettenpolymer ein gewünschtes Modul dar, wenn es einen adequaten Kristallgehalt besitzt.
- Der Kristallgehalt sollte bevorzugt im Bereich von 3 - 50 Gew.-% sein. Mit einem Kristallgehalt unter 3 Gew.-% hat das Polymer eine geringe Gummielastizität bei Temperaturen höher als Tg. Auf der anderen Seite, mit einem Kristallgehalt größer als 50 Gew.-%, wird das Polymer eine hohe Gummieelastizität bei einer Temperatur über dem Tg besitzen, mit dem Ergebnis, daß das Verhältnis der Module bei Temperaturen 10º über und unter Tg kleiner ist.
- Das Polymer kann aus den folgenden Rohmaterialien hergestellt werden, die nur beispielhaft sind und nicht begrenzend.
- Das erste Rohmaterial ist ein difunktionelles Isocyanat, das durch die allgemeine Formel OCN-R-NCO repräsentiert wird, wobei R eine Gruppe mit keinem, einem oder zwei Benzolringen bedeutet. Es schließt z.B. 2,4-Toluoldiisocyanat, 4,4,-Dipherylmethandiisocyanat, carbodiimid-modifizierte 4,4'-Dipherylmethandiisocyanat und Hexamethylendiisocyanat ein.
- Das zweite Rohmaterial ist ein difunktionelles Polyol, das durch die allgemeine Formel OH-R'-OH repräsentiert wird, wobei R' eine Gruppe mit keinem oder einem oder zwei Benzolringen bedeutet. Das zweite Rohmaterial kann ebenso ein Reaktionsprodukt dieser besagten difÜnktionellen Polyole und einer difünktionellen Carbonsäure oder eines zyklischen Äthers sein. Es schließt z.B. mit ein Polypropylenglycol, 1,4- Butanglycoladipinsäureester, Polytetramethylglycol, Polyethylenglycol, und ein Mukt von Bisphenol-A mit Propylenoxyd.
- Das dritte Rohmaterial ist ein difunktioneller Kettenverlängerer mit aktivem Wasserstoff, der durch die allgemeine Formel OH-R"-OH repräsentiert wird, wobei R" eine (CH&sub2;)n-Gruppe oder Gruppen mit einem oder zwei Benzolringen darstellt. Es schließt z.B. mit ein Ethylenglycol, 1,4-Butanglycol, Bis(2-Hydroxyethyl)hydrochinon, ein Mukt von Bisphenol-A mit Ethylenoxyd und ein Adukt von Bisphenol-A mit Propylenoxyd.
- Die oben erwähnten drei Rohmaterialien (Isocyanat, Polyol und Kettenverlängerer) (zusammen mit einem Katalysator falls notwendig) werden in folgender Art und Weise in ein Urethanelastomer durch vorausgegangene Polymerisation verwandelt.
- Zunächst wird das Diisocyanat und das Polyol in einem bestimmten molaren Verhältnis [NCO]/[OH] miteinander zur Reaktion gebracht, um ein Vorpolymer zu ergeben. Wenn die Reaktion abgeschlossen ist, wird so viel Kettenverlängerer zugesetzt, um das gewünschte molare Verhältnis von (Kettenverlängerer)/(Vorpolymer) zu erhalten. Die erhaltene Mischung wird in eine Form gegossen und dann bei 80ºC für ein oder zwei Tage in einem temperaturkonstanten Ofen für venietzende Reaktionen aufbewahrt. Der Prozeß kann Iösungsmittel erfordern oder auch nicht.
- Das nach oben erwähhter Methode hergestellte Polyurethanelastomer wird den gewünschten Tg und andere physikalische Eigenschaften besitzen, wenn die nachfolgenden sechs Faktoren geeignet gewählt werden. (1) die Art des Isocyanates, (2) die Art des Polyols, (3) die Art des Kettenverlängerers, (4) das [NCO]/[OH]-Verhältnis, (5) das [Kettenverlängerer]/[Vorpolymer]-Verhältnis und (6) die Härtungsbedingungen.
- Das so hergestellte Polyurethanelastomer kann durch folgende allgemeine Formel dargestellt werden.
- HOR"OCONH(RNHCOOR'OCONH)nRNHCOOR"OCONH (RNHCOOROCONH)mRNHCOOR"OH,
- wobei m = 1 - 16 und n = 0-16 ist.
- Schaumbildung kann über das Vorpolymer auf konventionelle Weise oder durch Gefrierverfahren erreicht werden.
- Im Falle der Schaumbildung über das Vorpolymer, wird der Kettenverlängerer zusammen mit dem Treibmittel zugesetzt.
- Das Treibmittel, das man zum Schäumen benutzen kann, kann entweder vom Zersetzungstyp (ein Gas wird freigesetzt aufgrund chemischer Zersetzung) oder vom Verdampfungstyp (durch Verdampfen ohne chemische Reaktion) sein. Zu den Treibmitteln des Zersetzungstyps gehören z. B. Natriumbicarbonat, Aminoniumcarbonat, Ammoniumnitrit, Azide, Ieichtmetalle, die durch Reaktion mit Wasser Wasserstoff abgeben, Azodicarbonamide, und N,N'-Dinitrosopentamethylentetramin. Die Treibmittel des Verdampfungstyps beinhalten z.B. Trichlormonofluormethan, Trichlortrifluorethan, Methylenchlorid, und komprimierten Stickstoff.
- Zunächst wurde ein Vorpolymer durch Reaktion eines Isocyanates mit einem Polyol in Abwesenheit eines Katalysators in dem Verhältnis, wie in Tabelle 1 gezeigt, hergestellt. Zum Vorpolymer wurde der Kettenverlängerer im Verhältnis, wie in Tabelle 1 angegeben, zugegeben zusammen mit einem Treibmittel (Trichlormonofluormethan mit einem Siedepunkt von 23.8ºC) mit 20 Teilen für 100 Teile des Polyurethans. Um einen Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis zu erhalten, wurde die resultierende Mischung hitzegehärtet. Der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis, der 20 Mal das ursprüngliche Volumen übertraf, hatte einen Tg und Kristallgehalt wie in Tabelle 1 beschrieben. Der Tg wurde mittels DSC-Methode bestimmt (differential scanning calorimetry). Der Kristallgehalt (Gew.-%) wurde mit Hilfe von Röntgendiffraktometrie bestimmt.
- Danach wurde der so erhaltene Polyurethanschaum auf seine Formgedächtniseigenschaften untersucht. Aus dem Polyurethanschaum in Beispiel 38 wurde ein zylindrisches Wärmedämm-Material gemacht mit 9.5 cm Innendurchmesser und 4 cm Dicke. Das Wärmedämm-Material wurde fest auf ein Rohr mit 10 cm Außendurchmesser aufgezogen und anschließend auf ungefähr 50ºC erwärmt und dann auf Raumtemperatur abgekühlt, dabei wurde der Außendurchmesser unter externem Druck auf 12 cm gehalten, damit sich der komprimierte Zustand verfestigt. Die Kombination aus Rohr- und Wärmedämm-Material wurde in ein anderes Rohr mit 15 cm Innendurchmesser eingeführt. Das verformte Wärmedämm-Material wurde erhitzt, und die ursprüngliche Gestalt wurde durch Erwärmen mit einem heißen Gas, das mit ca. 50ºC durch das Rohr geleitet wurde, erhalten. Das Wärmedämm-Material kam dabei in engen Kontakt mit der Innenseite des Rohres und hlelt das Rohr in der Rohrleitung fest gebunden, was auf die Elastizität des Polyurethanschaumes zurückzuführen ist. - Die vorliegende Erfindung, wie oben erwähnt, durchgefhhrt, bringt die folgenden Resultate. Es wird einen Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis hergestellt, der nicht nur eine geformte Gestalt sondern auf Wunsch auch eine deformierte Gestalt annimmt, und der sich durch einfaches Erwarmen in seine ursprüngliche Form zurückführen läßt. Wenn der Polymerschaum mit Formgedächtnis über eine offene Zellstruktur verfügt, kann man ihn mit geringer Gewalteinwirkung beträchtlich deformieren. Die starke Deformierung und der Wechsel der physikalischen Eigenschaften, die als Resultat der Deformation stattfinden, erlauben es dem Polymerschaum, eine Reihe von Anwendungen zu finden. Wenn der Schaum mit Formgedächtnis eine geschlossene Zellstruktur besitzt, erhält er seine ursprüngliche Form sehr schnell zurück, und zwar aufgrund der Ausdehnung des Gases, das wahrend der Deformationsphase in den Zellen kompriiniert wurde. Diese Eigenschaft macht den Polymerschaum vielseitiger.
Claims (2)
1. Ein Polyurethanschaum mit Formgedächtnis, der eine deformierte
Gestalt und eine geformte Gestalt annimmt, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß die erwähnte deformierte Gestalt erhalten
wird, wenn der Polyurethanschaum bei Temperaturen über dem
Glasübergangspunkt des Polyurethans komprimiert wird und dann
bei einer geringerer Temperatur als dem Glasübergangspunkt
komprimiert gehalten wird bis der komprimierte Zustand sich
verfestigt hat, die Gestalt, wie geformt, wird erhalten, wenn der
komprimierte Polyurethanschaum auf eine Temperatur über dem
Glasübergangspunkt erhitzt wird, bis er die ursprüngliche Gestalt
wiedergewinnt.
2. Ein Polyurethanschaum mit Formgedächtnis wie in Anspruch 1
beschrieben, dadurch gekennz:eichhet, daß das Polyurethan durch
eine vorausgegangene Polymerisation einer Verbindung entsteht,
die aus einem difunktionellen Diisocyanat, ernem difunktionellen
Polyol und einem difunktionellen Kettenverlängerer mit aktivem
Wasserstoff zusarnmengesetzt ist, deren Mol.-Verhältnis
2.00 - 1.10 : 1.00 : 1.00 - 0.10 ist, sowie einem Treibmittel, das besagte
Polyurethan annähernd die gleiche Anzahl an Isocyanat- und
Hydroxylgruppen an den Enden der Polymerkette besitzt und
einen Glasübergangspunkt im Bereich von 50 - 60ºC und einen
Kristallgehalt von 3 - 50 Gew.-% hat.
