die Umwandlung von Kohlenwasserstoffen und besonders für die Alkylierung, die Isomerisierung und
die Polymerisation von Kohlenwasserstoffe in an sich bekannter Weise als Festbettkatalysator einsetzbar
ist.
Diese Aufgabe wird gelöst durch einen Katalysator,
hergestellt durch Mischen von Antimonpentafluorid mit Fluorwasserstoff und/oder Fluorsulfonsäure in
einem Molverhältnis von etwa 1: 10 bis 1:1 unter im wesentlichen vollständigem Ausschluß von Wasser
und Aufbringen der Mischung auf einen inerten Träger, der erfindungsgemäß dadurch gekennzeichnet
ist, daß er durch Imprägnieren von Aktivkohle oder Graphit mit einer spezifischen Oberfläche von etwa
50 bis 1000 m2/g mit der katalytisch aktiven Mischung

Katalysator, bezogen auf den Träger, 5 bis 50 Gewichtsprozent des katalytisch aktiven Komplexes enthält,
hergestellt worden ist.
Der Katalysator wird als Festbettkatalysator bei Verfahren zur katalytischen Umwandlung von Koh-
lenwasserstoffen verwendet. Bevorzugte Anwendungsgebiete
sind Isomerisierungsverfahren, z. B. die Isomerisierung von Paraffinen mit 4 bis 3 Kohlenstoffatomen
oder von isomerisierbaren aromatischen Kohlenwasserstoffen, Alkylierungsverfahren, z. B.
Alkylierungsreaktionen zwischen Olefinen und Isoparaffinen oder alkylierbaren Aromaten, sowie
Olefinpolymerisationsverfahren.
Der Träger des Katalysators besteht aus Aktivkohle oder Graphit mit einer spezifischen Oberfläche
von etwa 50 bis 1000 m2/g. Dieses Trägermaterial ist mit der durch Imprägnieren aufgebrachten katalytisch
aktiven Mischung aus Antimonpentafluorid und Fluorwasserstoff und/oder Fluorsulfonsäure gut verträglich,
d.h., die Wirksamkeit der katalytisch aktiven 5« Mischung wird durch das Trägermaterial nicht beeinträchtigt,
und umgekehrt wird die strukturelle Festigkeit und Oberflächenausbildung des Trägermaterials
durch die katalytisch aktive Mischung nicht zerstört. Ein günstiges und bevorzugtes Trägermateria?
ist beispielsweise akiivierte Holzkohle.
Die katalytisch aktive Mischung, mit der der Aktivkohle- oder Graphitträger imprägniert wird, umfaßt
Antimonpentafluorid und Fluorwasserstoff und/oder Fluorsulfonsäure. Der Katalysator kann somit katalytisch
aktive Komplexe von Antimonpentafluorid und Fluorsulfonsäure, Antimonpentafluorid und Fluorwasserstoff,
sowie Antimonpentafluorid, Fluorwasserstoff und Fluorsulfonsäure enthalten. Besonders bevorzugt
werden Komplexe von Antimonpentafluorid und Fluorsulfonsäure.
Da Antimonpentafluorid einen Siedepunkt, bei Normalbedingungen, von 149,5° C und einen
Schmelzpunkt von 7° C aufweist, Fluorwasserstoff einen Siedepunkt von 19,4° C und einen Schmelzpunkt
von —83° C hat und Fluorsulfonsäure (HSO3F, auch als Fluorsulfonsäure oder Fluorschwefclsäure
bezeichnet) einen Siedepunkt von 165,5° C und einen Schmelzpunkt von —87,3° C besitzt, handelt
es sich bei den katalytischen Komplexen, die durch Vermischung von Antimonpentafluorid mit
Fluorsulfonsäure und/oder Fluorwasserstoff gebildet werden, um bei Umgebungstemperaturen und -drükken
flüssige Lösungen. Ohne an irgendeine theoretische Deutung gebunden zu sein, kann angenommen
werden, daß sich in Antimonpentafluorid-Fluorsulfonsäure-Gemischen
ein Komplex der Formel 2 HSO.,F · SbF5 bildet, der in seiner Ionenform als
H2SO3F+SbF5SO3F" angesehen werden kann. Entsprechend
können Antimonpentafluorid-Fluorwasserstoff-Gemische als 2 HF · SbF5-Komplex in der Form
H2F+SbF0" angesehen werden. Es wird demgemäß
bevorzugt, daß der aktive katalytische Komplex ein Molverhältnis von Antimonpentafluorid zu Fluorwasserstoff
und/oder Fluorsulfonsäure von etwa 1 :2 aufweist, jedoch sind allgemein Molverhältnisse von
Antimonpentafluorid zu Fluorwasserstoff und/oder Fluorsulfonsäure im Bereich von etwa ! : 10 bis etwa
1 : 1 brauchbar.
Dieser Komplex wird dann mit dem Aktivkohleoder Graphitträger in einer Menge vereinigt, daß der
fertige Katalysator, bezogen auf den Träger, 5 bis 50 Gewichtsprozent des katalytisch aktiven Komplexes
enthält. Besonders bevorzugt wird eine Katalysatorzusammensetzung, die etwa 10 bis 25 Gewichtsprozent
des Komplexes enthält, wobei der Komplex ein Molverhältnis von Antimonpentafluorid zu Fluorsulfonsäure
von 1:10 bis 1:1 aufweist. Ebenfalls bevorzugt wird eine Zusammensetzung mit einem
Gehalt von etwa 10 bis 25 Gewichtsprozent eines Komplexes, der ein Molverhältnis von Antimonpentafluorid
zu Fluorwasserstoff von etwa 1:5 bis etwa 3 : 2 aufweist. Wegen ihrer geringeren Flüchtigkeit
und relativ höheren Azidität werden Fluorsulfonsäure enthaltende Komplexe besonders bevorzugt.
Unabhängig davon, welche Säure verwendet wird, ist es wichtig, den Katalysator bei im wesentlichen wasserfreien
Bedingungen zu halten und anzuwenden, um jegliche Zersetzung oder Desaktivierung des
katalytischen Komplexes zu vermeiden.
Der katalytische Komplex kann mit dem Aktivkohle- oderGraphilträger, z.B. aktivierter Holzkohle,
nach bekannten Imprägnierungsmethoden vereinigt werden, zweckmäßig unter Bildung von Teilchen gewünschter
Gestalt, z. B. Kugeln, Pillen oder Extrudaten. So kann der flüssige Komplex beispielsweise
mit aktivierter Holzkohle in feinteiliger Form vermischt und das Gemisch zu einem festen porösen
Katalysator, der die gewünschte Menge des Komplexes enthält, verpreßt werden. Eine andere vorteilhafte
Herstellungsniethode besteht darin, das Trägermaterial, z. B. Holzkohle, in den flüssigen Komplex
zur Sorption der gewünschten Menge des Komplexes an dem Trägermaterial zu tauchen oder einzuschlämmen.
Obwohl der Komplex bei Normalbedingungen flüssig ist, wird er auf Grund der physikalischen
Eigenschaften des Gcmischs fest an dem Trägermaterial gehalten, etwa durch Van-der-Waalsche Kräfte
oder aktivierte Adsorption an Kohlenstoff; jedenfalls ergibt sich, daß der katalytische Komplex auch bei
der Verwendung des Katalysators bei einem Kohlen-
wasscrstoffumwandlungsverfahren recht fest mit dem Aktivkohle- oder Graphitträger verbunden bleibt.
Der Katalysator eignet sich für zahlreiche Kohlenwasserstoflumwandlungsverfahren,
z. B. für die Isomerisierung, Krackung, Polymerisation, Alkylierung,
Disproportionierung, Transalkylierung und D?salkylierung.
Die Anwendung in einem Festbett wird bevorzugt. Dabei können die Reaktionsteilnehmer
beim Durchgang durch den Katalysator in flüssiger Phase, in flüssig-dampfförmiger Miscuphase oder in
der Dampfphase vorliegen.
Als Beispiele für den Einsatz des Katalysators zur Isomerisierung von Kohlenwasserstoffen seien genannt:
Die Isomerisierung von geradkettigen oder schwach verzweigten Paraffinen mit vier oder mehr
Kohlenstoffatomen je Molekül, insbesondere n-Butan, n-Pentan, η-Hexan, n-Heptan und n-Octan bzw.
deren Gemischen von Cycloparaffinen mit gewöhnlich mindestens fünf Kohlenstoffatomen im Ring,
z. B. Methvlcydopentan, Dimethylcyclopentan, Cyclohexan oder Dimethylcyclohexan; von Gemischen
aus Paraffinen and Naphthenen, z. B. den sogenannten Pentanfraktionen und Hexanfraktionen;
von geradkettigen oder vcrzweigtkcttigen gesättigten Kohlenwasserstoffen mit bis zu etwa 25 Kohlenstoffatomen,
z. B. Paraffinen, wie sie in Düsenbrennstoffen, Schmierölen u. dgl. enthalten sind.
Olefine können ebenfalls mittels des Katalysators isonierisiert werden, z. B. zur Verschiebung der Doppelbindung
mehr in die Mitte der Kohlenstoffkette, etwa für die Erzeugung einer für die Alkylierung zu
Motorkraftstoff geeigneten Olcfinbcschickung, oder zur Gcrüslisomcrisicrung. Als Beispiele seien genannt:
Die Isomerisierung von 1-Buten zu 2-Buten, von 3-Mcthyl-l-buten zu 2-Methyl-2-buten, von
1-Penten, 1-Hexen, 2-Hexcn und 4-Mcthyl-i-pcnten
zu 2-Penten, 2-Hcxen. 3-Hcxen bzw. 4-MethyI-2-pentcn,
ähnliche Verschiebung der Doppelbindung bei längeren geradkettigen oder verzweigt-kettigen
Olefinen mit bis zu etwa 20 Kohlenstoffatomen je Molekül, Gerüstisomerisierung z.B. von 1-Penten zu
3-Methyl-l-buten und/odcv 2-Methyl-2-butcn.
Der Katalysator ist weiterhin brauchbar für die Isomerisierung von alkylaromatischcn Kohlenwasserstoffen,
vorzugsweise monocyclischen Alkylaromaten und insbesondere Cs-Alkylbenzolen und Nichtgleichgewich!sgemischen
der verschiedenen aromatischen 0,-Isomeren.
Die Isomerisierung wird vorzugsweise mit einem Festbett des Katalysators kontinuierlich bei einer
Temperatur von etwa --80 bis 200° C und insbesondere von — 20 bis 100° C, einem Druck von Atmosphärendruck
bis 100 atm und einer stündlichen Raumströmungsgcschwindigkeit der Flüssigkeit von
etwa 0,5 bis 50 durchgeführt, wobei zusätzlich Verdünnungsmittel, z. B. Argon, Stickstoff oder Wasserstoff,
anwesend sein können.
Der Katalysator ist ferner für Kohlenwasserstoffpolymerisationsvcrfahrcn
brauchbar, z. B. bei einer Temperatur von — 100 bis 100° C, einem Druck von
Atmosphärendruck bis 20OaIm und einer stündlichen Raumströmungsgeschwindigkeit der Flüssigkeit von
0,1 bis 10, gegebenenfalls in Anwesenheit von Verdünnungsmitteln. Als Beispiele seien genannt: Polymerisation
von Monoolefinen mit 2 bis 10 Kohlenstoffatomen, z. B. Äthylen. Propylen, 1-Buten.
1-Pcnten, Isobutylen, 2-Bulen. 2-Pcntcn, 2-Methylbutcn-1,
von Di- und Polyolefinen, z.B. 1,2-Butadien, 1,3-Butadien, Isopren, 1,4-Pentadien, von cyclischen
Olefinen, z. B. Cyclohexen, und von alkenylaiomatischen Verbindungen, z. B. Styrol, «-Methylstyrol.

vorzugsweise bei einer Temperatur von - 50 bis 75° C und einem Molverhältnis des alkylierbaren
Kohlenwasserstoffs zur olefinartig reagierenden
ίο Verbindung von 1:1 bis 10:1. Als Beispiele für
alkylierbare Kohlenwasserstoffe seien genannt: Isoparaffine, wie Isobutan, Isopentan, Isohexan, monocyclische
aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Benzol, Toluol, o-Xylol, m-Xylol, p-Xylol, Äthylbenzol,
Cumol, substituierte aromatische Kohlenwasserstoffe, wie Phenol, Thiophenol, Resorcin, Chinon, Anisol,
Äthoxybenzol, polycyclische Aromaten, wie Diphenyl, Diphenylmethan, Naphthalin, Anthracen,
Huoren, Stilben. Als Beispiele für die olefinartig
reagierenden Verbindungen seien genannt: Monoolefine, Polyolefine, Alkohole, Äther, Ester, Alkylhalogenide,'
Alkylsulfate, Alkylphosphate, Carbohydrate.
Die Herstellung des Katalysators und seine Ver-
wendung bei verschiedenen Kohlenwasserstoffumwandlungsverfahren
werden nachstehend an Hand von Beispielen weiter veranschaulicht.
Es wurde eine wasserfreie Lösung aus 33 Molprozent Antimonpentafiuorid und 67 Molprozent Fluorsulfonsäure
hergestellt. Aktivkohleteilchen von etwa kugelförmiger Gestalt mit einem Durchmesser von
1,6 mm, einer Oberflächengröße von 800 m2/g und
Porendurchmessern im Bereich von 20 bis 100 Angströmeinheiten wurden 2 Stunden lang bei 20° C in
diese Lösung getaucht. Dann wurde die überschüssige Lösung entfernt; es verblieben etwa 20 Gewichtsprozent
der ursprünglichen SbF5—HSO3F-Lösung an
der Aktivkohle sorbiert.
In gleichartiger Weise wurde ein AntimonpentafUiorid-Fluorwasserstoff-Katalysator
unter Verwendung einer Lösung, die 3 Mol HF je Mol SbF5 enthielt,
hergestellt.
Der gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellte Antimonpentafluorid-Fluorsulfonsäure-Katalysator
wurde in einer mit kontinuierlichem Durchfluß arbeitenden halbtechnischen
Katalysatorfestbettanlage herkömmlicher Ausbildung angeordnet. Ein Gemisch aus Isobutan
und n-Butylen im Molverhältnis 10:1 wurde dem Reaktor kontinuierlich mit einer stündlichen Raumströmungsgeschwindigkeit
der Flüssigkeit von 5 zugeführt, und der Reaktor wurde bei einer Temperatur
von 00C und einem Druck von 21,4 atm gehalten.
Das anfallende Produkt enthielt Trimethylpentane und Dimethylhexane, gebildet durch Alkylierung.
In gleichartiger Weise wurde ein Gemisch von Benzol und Äthylen im Molverhältnis 10: 1 zur Erzeugung
von Äthylbenzol alkyliert.
Der gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellte Katalysator, wie er im Beispiel 2 verwendet wurde, wurde in einer mit
kontinuierlichem Durchfluß arbeitenden halbtechnischcn Katalysatorfestbcttanlage herkömmlicher
