Die Erfindung betrifft Halogenphosphonatester von Dibromneopentylglykol
der allgemeinen Formel

in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder ein Schwefelatom und Y ein Chloroder
ein Bromatom bedeuten, sowie ein Verfahren zu deren Herstellung.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen eignen sich als Zwischenprodukte
zur Herstellung von flammhemmenden Phosphoramidatestern

in der X vorstehende Bedeutung hat und R und R , die gleich
oder verschieden sein können, Alkylgruppen mit 1 bis 8, vorzugsweise 1 bis M C-Atomen, Wasserstoff oder Phenylreste
oder einen einzigen Alkylenring mit 2, 4, 5 oder 6 C-Atomen, wie z.B. einen Aziridin-, Piperidin-, Pyrolidin- oder Hexamethylenimin-Ring
bedeuten, sowie auch als reaktionsfähige Zwischenprodukte für die Herstellung einer großen Gruppe
von Stoffgemischen.
Die Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen erfolgt im
allgemeinen dadurch, daß man z.B. bei einer Temperatur, z.B. zwischen Raumtemperatur und 100 C,Dibromneopentylglykol mit
einem geeigneten Phosphor-oxyhalogenid in einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel umsetzt, bis die Halogenwasserstoff-Entwicklung
praktisch beendet ist, wobei der Dibromneopentylglykol-halogenphosphonatester erhalten wird.
Das allgemeine Verfahren zur Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen
Verbindungen wird durch folgende Gleichung wiedergegeben:

Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen lassen sich dann nach
folgender Gleichung in die wirksamen Endprodukte umsetzten:

In den Gleichungen haben X, Y, R und R die vorstehend genannte
Bedeutung. Geeignete Phosphor-oxyhalogenide sind Phosphor oxychloride Phosphor-oxybromid und Phosphor-thiochlorid.
Geeignete Amine sind n-Butylamin, Methylamin, Äthylamin,
Propylamin, Cyclohexylamin, Anilin, Di-n-butylamin, Di-ipropylamin,
Dimethylamin und Diäthylamin.
Die Endprodukte erwiesen sich nach ihrer Einarbeitung in verschiedene
Polymere oder andere entflammbare Substrate als wirksame flammhemmende Mittel. Ganz allgemein sind diese

Verbindungen als flammhemmende Mittel in vielen Substraten
wie Polymethylmethacrylaten, Celluloseacetaten, Rayon, Polyestern,
Polyphenylenoxiden, biegsamen sowie starren Polyurethanen, Polystyrol, ABS-Polymeren, Polyäthylen, Polypropylen,
Nylon, Polyvinylchlorid, Polyäthylenoxid, Polypropylenoxid, Papier, Textilien wie Baumwollgewebe und dgl.
verwendbar.
Die Menge an aktiver Verbindung, die für eine kommerziell befriedigende Flammhemmung des jeweiligen Polymer- oder
W Substratsystems erforderlich ist, schwankt innerhalb eines
weiten Bereiches. Gewöhnlich werden zwischen etwa 1 bis 50, vorzugsweise zwischen etwa 5 und etwa 10 Gew.-% des flammhemmenden
Mittels verwendet. In der Regel kann jedes geeignete Verfahren zur Einarbeitung der flammhemmenden Mittel angewendet
werden. Vorgezogen wird u.a. die Vermischung der Zusatzstoffe mit dem Präpolymeren vor der Herstellung des polymeren
Materials, um das gewünschte flammbeständige fertige Polymerisat zu erzielen·.
Während es allgemein anerkannt ist, daß durch bromhaltige Verbindungen
die Flammbeständigkeit von Polymeren verbessert wird, erweisen sich doch viele solcher B^_romv erb indungen aufgrund
ihrer Instabilität als unbefriedigend. Werden diese Verbindungen in polymere Substrate eingearbeitet und bei Raumtemperatur
abgestellt, dann spalten sie bekanntlich Bromwasserstoff ab. Die aus den erfindungsgemäßen Zwischenprodukten hergestellten
Verbindungen zeichnen sich nun durch bessere Stabilität, insbesondere durch verbesserte Lichtbeständigkeit sowie
•durch exzellente flammhemmende Eigenschaften aus.
Die folgenden Beispiele dienen der Erläuterung der Erfindung.

Eine benzolische Lösung (450 ml Benzol) von 2,2l-Bis-bromäthyl- "
1,3-ßropandiol (261,8 g/lMol) wurde 6 Stunden bei 50°C mit
153S3 g/l Mol POCl umgesetzt, bis sich kein Chlorwasserstoffgas
mehr entwickelte. Durch NMR und IR-Analyse wurde vorstehend
aufgeführte Struktur bestätigt.

Das Zwischenprodukt wurde nach dem Verfahren gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellt. Nach Beendigung der Entwicklung von Chlorwasserstoffgas
wurden unter Aufrechterhaltung einer Temperatur von unter 10 C langsam 90 g /2 Mol Dimethylamin zugesetzt. Lösungsmittel
und andere flüchtige Stoffe wurden an einem Rotationsverdampfer entfernt. Der dabei erhaltene weiße, kristalline
Feststoff wurde in Chloroform gelöst und das Aminhydrochlorid durch Waschen mit Wasser entfernt. Nach der Entfernung des
Chloroforms wurde ein weißerv kristalliner Feststoff in einer Ausbeute von 297 g (84,5 Gew.-%) und mit einem Schmelzpunkt
von 119 bis 121°C erhalten.
Feststoff wurde in Chloroform gelöst und das Aminhydrochlorid durch Waschen mit Wasser entfernt. Nach der Entfernung des
Chloroforms wurde ein weißerv kristalliner Feststoff in einer Ausbeute von 297 g (84,5 Gew.-%) und mit einem Schmelzpunkt
von 119 bis 121°C erhalten.

Die nach dem Verfahren von Beispiel # hergestellten Verbin- f
düngen wurden nach Einarbeitung oder nach Zusatz der angegebenen Mengen zu den in den nachstehenden Tabellen angegebenen Materialien
erprobt. Die Flammhemmung der resultierenden Materialien wurde dann dadurch quantitativ erfaßt, daß man gemäß den Verfahren
von Fenimore und Martin (vgl. Modern Plastics, Ausgabe '
vom November 1966) deren Sauerstoff-Grenzwert (SGW, Limiting
Oxygen Index) ermittelte. Bei diesem Verfahren wird die Flammhemmung in direkte Beziehung gesetzt zur Messung der prozentualen
Mindestkonzentration an Sauerstoff in einem Sauerstoff/Stickstoff-Gemisch,
bei der die Probe zu brennen vermag. Der Sauerstoff-Grenzwert errechnet sich dabei wie folgt:

Ein höherer Sauerstoff-Grenzwert deutet also auf stärkere
Flammhemmung (flame retardancy).

Claims (4)
1. Halogenphosphonatester von Dibroraneopentylglykol
der allgemeinen Formel
Br - CH0 CH. -
C P-Y
Br - CH CHp - 0
in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder ein Schwefelatom und Y ein Chlor- oder ein Bromatom bedeuten.
2. Verbindung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
X der Formel ein Sauerstoffatom und Y ein Chloratom bedeuten.
3. Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Verbindung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man Dibromneopentylglykol
mit PXY^, wobei X und Y vorstehend genannte Bedeutung haben,
umsetzt.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 3» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man . f
die Umsetzung in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels und bei einer Temperatur zwischen etwa 0 und etwa 100°C durchführt.
