Die Erfindung betrifft neue Phosphoramidatester von Dibrora·
neopentylglycol der allgemeinen Formel

in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder ein Schwefelatom und R1 und Rp5
die gleich oder verschieden sein können, Alkylgruppen mit 1 bis 8, vorzugsweise 1 bis 4 C-Atomen, Wasserstoff oder Phenylreste

bedeuten. R1 und R2 können auch einen/Alkylenring mit 2, 4,
oder 6 C-Atomen,wie z.B. einen Aziridin-, Piperidin-, Pyrolidin- oder Hexamethylenimin-Ring bilden, sowie ein Verfahren zu
deren Herstellung. Die erfindungsgemäß gewonnenen Phosphor-

amidatester von Dibromneopentylglycol sind besonders als
flainmhemmende Mittel (flame retardants) verwendbar. Die
neuen Halogenphosphonatester von Dibromneopentylglycol sind Zwischenprodukte, die bei der Herstellung von Verbindungen
wie den erfindungsgemäßen Phosphoramidatestern entstehen.
Nach ihrer Einarbeitung in verschiedene Polymere oder andere entflammbare Substrate erweisen sich die neuen Verbindungen
als wirksame Mittel zur Herabsetzung der Brennbarkeit. Ganz allgemein sind diese neuen Verbindungen als flammhemmende
Mittel in vielen Substraten wie Polymethylmethacrylaten, Celluloseacetaten, Rayon, Polyestern, Polyphenylenoxide^
biegsamen sowie starren Polyurethanen, Polystyrol, ABS-PoIy?
meren, Polyäthylen, Polypropylen, Nylon, Polyvinylchlorid, Polyäthylenoxid, Polypropylenoxid, Papier, Textilien wie Baumwollgewebe
und dgl. verwendbar.
Die Menge an erfindungsgemäßer Verbindung, die für eine kommerziell
befriedigende Flammhemmung des jeweiligen Polymeroder Substratsystems erforderlich ist, schwankt innerhalb eines
weiten Bereiches. Gewöhnlich werden zwischen etwa 1 bis 50, vorzugsweise zwischen etwa 5 und etwa 10 Gew.-£ des flamm-.
hemmenden Mittels verwendet. In der Regel kann jedes geeig-" nete Verfahren zur Einarbeitung der flammhemmenden Mittel angewendet
werden. Vorgezogen wird u.a. die Vermischung der Zusatzstoffe mit dem Präpolymeren vor der Herstellung des
polymeren Materials, um das gewünschte flammbeständige fertige Polymerisat zu erzielen.
Während es allgemein anerkannt ist, daß durch bromhaltige Verbindungen
die Flammbeständigkeit von Polymeren verbessert wird, erw%sen sich doch viele solcher Bromverbindungen aufgrund
ihrer Instabilität als unbefriedigend. Werden diese Verbindungen in polymere Substrate eingearbeitet und bei Raumtem-

peratur abgestellt, dann spalten sie bekanntlich Bromwasserstoff
ab. Die erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen zeichnen sich nun durch bessere Stabilität, insbesondere durch verbesserte
Lichtbeständigkeit sowie durch excellente flammhemmende Eigenschaften aus.
Die Erfindung betirfft ferner neue Zwischenprodukte für die Herstellung von Verbindungen wie der Phosphoramidatester.
Diese Zwischenprodukte entsprechen der allgemeinen Formel:

in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder ein Schwefelatom und Y ein Chloroder
ein Bromatom bedet^ien. Diese Verbindungen sind nicht nur
geeignete Zwischenprodukte für die Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen, auf Phosphoramidat-Basis aufgebauten Mittel zur Herabsetzung
der Brennbarkeit, sondern sie stellen auch reaktionsfähige Zwischenprodukte für die Herstellung einer großen Gruppe
von Stoffgemischen dar.
Die Herstellung der erfindungsgemäßen Verbindungen erfolgt im allgemeinen dadurch, daß man ZiB. bei einer Temperatur, z.B.
zwischen Raumtemperatur und 100 0C, Dibromneopentylglycol mit
einem geeigneten Phosphor-oxyhalogenid in einem geeigneten Lösungsmittel
umsetzt, bis die Halogenwasserstoff-Entwicklung praktisch beendet ist, wobei der Dibromneopentylglycol-halogenphosphonatester
erhalten wird.
Das allgemeine Verfahren zur Herstellung der neuen Verbindungen wird durch folgende Gleichungen wiedergegeben:

Geeignete Phosphor-oxyhalogenide sind Phosphor-oxychlorid, Phosphor-oxybromid und Phosphor-thiochlorid. Geeignete
Amine sind n-Butylamin, Methylamin, Äthylamin, Propylamin, Cyclohexylamine
Anilin, Di-n-butylamin, Di-i-propylamin, Dimethylamin
und Diäthylamin.
Die folgenden Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung, ohne sie einzuschränken.

Eine benzolische Lösung(450 ml Benzol) von 2,2fBis-bromäthyl-1,3-propandiol
(261,8 g/lMol) wurde 6 Stunden bei 50 0C mit
153»3 g/l M°l POCl, umgesetzt, bis sich kein Chlorwasserstoff gas
mehr entwickelte. Durch NMR und IR-Analyse wurde vorstehend
aufgeführte Struktur bestätigt.

Zur Herstellung dieser Verbindung wurde das Verfahren des Beispiels
1 wiederholt, aber PSCl, anstelle von POCl, verwendet.

Das Zwischenprodukt wurde nach dem Verfahren gemäß Beispiel 1 hergestellt. Nach Beendigung der Entwicklung von Chlorwasserstoffgas
wurden unter Aufrechterhaltung einer Temperatur von unter 10 0C langsam 90 g/2 Mol Dimethylamin zugesetzt. Lösungsmittel
und andere flüchtige Stoffe wurden an einem Rotationsverdampfer entfernt. Der dabei erhaltene weisse, kristalline
Feststoff wurde in Chloroform gelöst und das Aminhydrochlorid durch Waschen mit Wasser entfernt. Nach der Entfernung des
Chloroforms wurde ein weisser kristalliner Festätoff in einer Ausbeute von 297 g (84,5 Gew.-%) und mit einem Schmelzpunkt
von 119 - 121 0C erhalten.

Die nach dem Verfahren von Beispiel H hergestellten Verbindungen
wurden nach Einarbeitung oder nach Zusatz der angegebenen Mengen su den in den nachstehenden Tabellen angegebenen Materialien
erprobt» Die Flammhemmung der resultierenden Materialien wurde
dann dadurch quantitativ erfasst«, daß man gemäß den Verfahren fön Fenimore und Martin (vgl. Modem Plastics, Ausgabe vom No-Tember
1$66) deren Sauerstoff-Grenzwert (SGW, Limiting Oxygen
!rides) ermittelte. Bei diesem Verfahren wird die Flammhemmung
in direkte Beziehung gesetzt zur Messung der prozentualen Minäestkonzentration
an Sauerstoff in einem Sauerstoff/Stickstoff-SsHiischs
bei der die Probe su brennen vermag. Der- Sauerstoff-Grsnswert
errechnet sich dabei wie folgt:

Nachstehend wird in einem spezifischen Beispiel ein Verfahren zur Einarbeitung der neuen Ester in ein polymeres Substrat dargestellt:
80 Gew.-? Methylmethacrylat wurden mit 20 Gew.-fc N,N1-Dimethylphosphoramidatester
von Dibromneopentylglycol und 200 ppm Azobis-isobutylonitril
bei Raumtemperatur vermischt. Zur Erzielung eines weniger brennbereitem (flame retarded) Polymethylmethacrylats
wurde das erhaltene Gemisch in einem geschlossenen Gefäß sechs Stunden auf 80 ° gehalten. Die erzielten Sauerstoff-Grenzwerte
(SGW) sind in der vorstehenden Tabelle IV aufgeführt.

Claims (11)
- Patentansprüche :Verbindung der allgemeinen Formel Br - CH2 CH2 - 0Br - CH2 CH2 - 0in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder ein Schwefelatom und Y ein Chlor- oder ein Bromatom bedeuten.
- 2. Verbindung nach Anspruch 1, wobei X der Formel ein Sauerstoffatom und Y ein Chloratom bedeuten.
- 3. Verbindung der allgemeinen FormelBr - CH0 CH0 - 0 R.P-NBr - CH2 CH2 - 0in der X ein Sauerstoff- oder ein Schwefelatom und R1 und R2, die gleich oder verschieden sein können, Alkylgruppen mit 1 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen, ein Wasserstoffatom oder Phenylreste oder einen einzigen Alkylenrest mit 2, 1I, 5 oder 6 Kohlenstoffatomen bedeuten.
- 4. Verbindung nach Anspruch 3, wobei X der Formel ein Sauerstoffatom und R1 und R2 jeweils eine Methylgruppe bedeuten.109847/1971
- 5. Verbindung nach Anspruch 3, wobei X der Formel ein Schwefelatom und R., und Rp jeweils eine Äthylgruppe bedeuten.
- 6. Verbindung nach Anspruch 3, wobei X der Formel ein Sauerstoffatom und R1 und Rp einen Alkylenring mit 2 Kohlenstoffatomen bilden.
- 7. Verfahren zur Herstellung einer Verbindung nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man J)ibromneopentylglycol mit PXY,, wobei X und Y vorstehend genannte Bedeutung haben, umsetzt.
- 8. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man die Umsetzung in Gegenwart eines Lösungsmittels und bei einer Temperatur zwischen etwa 0 und etwa 100 C durchführt.
- 9. Verfahren zur Herabsetzung der Brennbereitschaft, dadurch gekennzeichent, daß man ein Substrat mit einer wirksamen Menge einer Verbindung nach Anspruch 3 versetzt.
- 10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man als Substrat Polyphenylenoxid, Polyester, Polyurethane Polyvinylchlorid, Polymethylmethacrylat, Celluloseacetat, Rayon, Nylon, Polypropylen, Polyäthylen, Polyäthylenoxid, Polypropylenoxid, Polystyrol, ABS-Polymeren oder Papier verwendet .
- 11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9» dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die wirksame Menge zwischen etwa 1 bis etwa 50 Gew.-!?, bezogen auf das verwendete Substrat liegt.Für Stauffer Chemical Company New York,/N.Y., V.St.A.(Dr.H.J.fcolff)
