9. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es Trichloressigsäure und
Diisopropylhydrogenphosphit enthält, wobei die Trichloressigsäure in Mengen von 0,03 bis 0,07
Gewichtsteilen anwesend ist.
10. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es Polyphenylthioäther der
allgemeinen Formel

2. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es einen Polyphenylthioäther

3. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es 0,03 bis 0,07 Gewichtsprozent
Trichloressigsäure enthält.
4. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es 0,05 bis 0,1 Gewichtsprozent
einer zweibasischen, perfluorierten, aliphatischen Säure enthält.
5. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es als zweibasische, perforierte,
aliphatische Säure Perfluorglutarsäure enthält.
6. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es 0,075 bis 0,2 Gewichtsprozent
einer organischen Phosphinsäure enthält.
7. Schmiermittel nach Anspruch 6, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es als organische Phosphinsäure
eine Phenylphosphinsäure enthält.

Diese Erfindung entspricht den in den Ansprüchen gekennzeichneten Gegenstand.
Polyphenylthioäther- und Polyphenyläther-Thioäther-Kombinationen
haben im Hinblick auf ihre ausgezeichnete thermische Stabilität und ihre gute Schmierfähigkeit eine breite Anwendung als funktionel-Ie
Flüssigkeit gefunden. Beispielsweise werden sie als hydraulische Flüssigkeiten und als Schmiermittel in
Motoren, insbesondere in Strahltriebwerken, eingesetzt.
j Die Entwicklung von synthetischen Schmieröl-Basismaterialien,
wie z. B. von Polyphenylthioäthern, hat Schvnierflüssigkeiten geschaffen, welche auch bei
höheren Temperaturen, wie 204° bis 2600C1 brauchbar
sind. Es ist jedoch bekannt, daß diese Polyphenylthioäther-Basismaterialien
bezüglich ihrer Schmiereigenschaften bei Stahl auf Stahl, Stahl auf versilberter
Bronze, oder Stahl auf Gußeisen, noch Mängel aufweisen. Diese Mangel der Schmiereigenschaften
zeigen sich besonders unter Bedingungen von hohem Druck, d. h. unter hoher Belastung, und hohen
Temperaturen, wie sie in neuzeitlichen Flugzeugtriebwerk-Konstruktionen erreicht werden, und führen zu
einem starken Verschleiß. Dementsprechend existiert ein Bedarf für Polyphenylthioäther mit verbesserten
«ι Schmiereigenschaften.
Aus der DE-AS 12 75 535 ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Gemischen aus flüssigen Polyphenylthioäthern
bekannt. Die DE-OS 1 5 94 5Cl beschreibt Schmiermittelzubereitungen, die Polyphenylthioäther
tv'; enthalten. Keine dieser Veröffentlichungen offenbart
jedoch Zusätze, die den Polyphenylthioäther-Basismaterialien
eine verbesserte Schmierfähigkeit verleihen. Aus den US-PS 3116 248 und 3116 249 sind
Schmieröizubereitungen bekannt, die ein Mineralschmieröl
als Basismateiial verwenden. Abgesehen
davon, daß derartige Schmieröle auf Mineralölbasis in ihrer-Funktion und in ihrem Verhalten völlig verschieden
von den synthetischen Polyphenylthioäther-Basismaterialien
der vorliegenden Anmeldung sind, enthalten sie auch andere Additive, wie z. B. polymerisierbare,
heterocyclische Amine, wie Vinylpyrrolidin und Vinylpyridin, bzw. öllösliche N-Aminoalkyl-substituierte
Imidazolinsalze oder Komplexe von sauren Alkylphosphaten oder Phosphaten.
Die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung bestand daher darin, verbesserte Schmiermittel unter Verwendung
von Polyphenylthioäthern, Polyphenyläther-Thioäthern oder Mischungen derselben, als Basismate- 1 s
rialien zu schaffen, die eine außergewöhnliche Schmierfähigkeit unter hoher Belastung bei hohen Temper aturen
aufweisen.
Diese Aufgabe wurde nun durch die vorliegende Erfindung in der in den Ansprüchen erläuterten Weise
gelöst
Die zweibasischen, perfluorierten, aliphatischen Säuren, welche in den Zubereitungen der vorliegenden
Erfindung verwendet werden, sind solche mit 3 bis 8 Kohlenstoffatomen der allgemeinen Formel 1

von zweibasischen, perfluorierten Säuren der allgemeinen Formel I, in der m eine ganze Zahl von 2 bis 4 ist,
wird besonders bevorzugt
Beispiele für die zweibasischen, perfluorierten Säuren der allgemeinen Formel I sind Perfluormalonsäure,
Perfluorbernsteinsäure, Perfluorglutarsäure, Perfluoradipinsäure, Perfluorpimelinsäure und Perfluorkorksäure.
Die organischen Phosphinsäuren, welche in den Zubereitungen der vorliegenden Erfindung verwendet
werden, sind solche der allgemeinen Formel Il

Arylgruppe, eine Alkyl-substituierte Arylgruppe mit 6 bis 16 Kohlenstoffatomen, oder eine Alkylgruppe

Phenyl, Tolyl, Xylyl, Naphthyl, «-Methylnaphthyl und

Butylphenyl, tert-Butylphenyl und dergleichen. Derartige
Halogen-substituierte Arylgruppen sind o-, m- und p-Chlorphenyl, o-, m- und p-Bromphenyl, die Fluorphe- bo
nylgruppen und dergleichen. Erläuternd für die Alkylgruppen, welche durch R" dargestellt werden, sind
beispielsweise Methyl, Äthyl, Propyl, Isopropyl, Butyl, tert-Butyl, Hexyl, Isooctyl, Decyl und dergleichen.
Derartige organische Phosphinsäuren sind beispielswei- b>
se Phenylphosphinsäure, Nonylphenylphosphinsäure, Tolylphosphinsäure, Xylylphosphinsäure, Naphthylphosphinsäure,
Diphenylphosphinsäure und dergleichen. Es wird besonders bevorzugt, in den erfindungsgemäßen
Schmiermitteln organische Phosphinsäuren zu verwenden, in welchen R" eine Arylgruppe innerhalb
der oben angegebenen Definition ist
Die In den Schmiermitteln der vorliegenden Erfindung
angewandte Menge an Trichloressigsäure kann im Bereich von 0,01 bis 0,2 Gewichtsprozent liegen. Es wird
bevorzugt, Trichloressigsäure in den Schmiermitteln der vorliegenden Erfindung in Mengen von 0,03 bis 0,07
Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die Gesamtzubereitung zu verwenden.
Die Menge der in den erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermitteln eingesetzten zweibasischen, perfluorierten,
aliphatischen Säure kann im Bereich von 0,01 bis 0,2 Gewichtsprozent liegen. Es wird bevorzugt, die
zweibasische, perfluorierte, aliphatische Säure in den Schmiermitteln der vorliegenden Erfindung in Mengen
von etwa 0,05 bis 0,1 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die Gesamtzubereitung, einzusetzen.
Die Menge an organischer Phosphinsäure, die in den
Schmiermitteln der Erfindung angewandt wird, beträgt gewöhnlich etwa 0,05 bis 2,0 Gewichtsprozent der
Gesamtzubereitung. Es wird bevorzugt, die Arylphosphinsäure in den erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermitteln in
Mengen von etwa 0,075 bis etwa 0,2 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf die Gesamtzubereitung, anzuwenden.
Die durch die Zugabe von Trichloressigsäure, zweibasischer, perfluorierter, aliphatischer Säure oder
organischer Phosphinsäure zu der Polyphenylthioäther-Basisflüssigkeit
erzielte Verbesserung der Schmierfähigkeitseigenschaften war nicht vorherzusehen und
überraschend. Der Verschleiß an einer simulierten Lagerfläche wird besonders bei Prüftemperatauren von
3380C verringert Führt man hingegen den Versuch mit
der Basisflüssigkeit ohne Additiv durch, ist die Schmierfähigkeit der Basisflüssigkeit unzureichend und
das Schmiermittel versagt in dem Versuch bereits nach kurzer Zeit.
Die in den erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermitteln verwendeten Polyphenylthioäther haben 3 bis 8
Benzolringe und 1 bis 7 Schwefelatome, wobei die Benzolringe durch die Schwefelatome in Thioätherbindungen
kettenförmig verbunden vorliegen.
Unter dem in der vorliegenden Beschreibung verwendeten Ausdruck »Polyphenylthioäther« wird
eine Verbindung oder eine physikalische Mischung von Verbindungen der allgemeinen Formel
R-Y(R'-Y)n-R
.vie sie im Anspruch 1 näher definiert wird, verstanden.
Der Ausdruck schließt Verbindungen ein, in denen alle Y-Gruppen der vorstehenden allgemeinen Formel
Schwefel bedeuten. Der Ausdruck schließt ferner solche Verbindungen ein, welche sowohl Sauerstoff- als auch
Schwefelverbindungen zwischen den Benzolkernen enthalten.
Die Schmiermittel der vorliegenden Erfindung enthalten ein Polyphenylthioäther-Basismaterial, d. h.,
das fertiggestellte Schmiermittel enthält zumindest 50 Gewichtsprozent Polyphenylthioäther. Es wird bevorzugt,
daß zumindest 60 Gewichtsprozent des Schmiermittels ein Polyphenylthioäther-Basismaterial ist, und es
wird sogar besonders bevorzugt, daß zumindest 85 Gewichtsprozent der Gesamtzubereitung Polyphenylthioäther
sind.
Beispiele für die in den Phenyl- und Phenylengruppen der Polyphenylthioäther enthaltenen Alkyl-Substituenten
sind Methyl, Äthyl, Propyl, Butyl und dergleichen.
Beispiele für die Alkoxy-Substituenten sind Methoxy, Äthoxy, Propoxy, Butoxy und deren Isomere.
Die Schmiermittel der vorliegenden Erfindung können ebenso von 0,01 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent,
bezogen auf die Gesamtzubereitung, eines Dialkylhydrogenphosphit-Extremdruck-Additivs
enthalten. Die verwendbaren Dialkylhydrogenphosphite sind solche, in
denen die Alkylgruppen 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatome enthalten. Diese Alkylgruppen sind beispielsweise
Methyl, Äthyl, Propyl, Isopropyl, Butyl, s>ek.-Butyl,
terL-Butyl, Hexyl, Decyl, Isodecyl, Dodecyl und
dergleichen.
Erläuternd für die Polyphenylthioäther, welche als Basismaterialien für die Schmiermittel der vorliegenden
Erfindung verwendet werden können, sind die Bis(phenylmercapto)-benzole.

Die Schmiermittel der vorliegenden Erfindung sind auch unter extremen Bedingungen brauchbar, und
insbesondere für Stahl auf Stahl, versilberte Bronze, Gußeisen und dergleichen.
Das folgende Beispiel dient zur weiteren Erläuterung
der Erfindung. Alle Teile sind Gewichtsteile, es sei denn, daß ausdrücklich etwas anderes gesagt ist

wurden durch Kombinieren eines nachstehend definierten Additivs einer organischen Säure
unter Verwendung eines Thioäthers der folgenden Zusammensetzung hergestellt

2« Nach Verrühren bei 4O0C zur Auflösung der Säuren
wurde die Mischung auf Raumtemperatur gekühlt und filtriert.
Das Schmiermittel Nr. 1 wurde in einer schnell laufenden Lagerprüfmaschine hoher Temperatur und
2i kleinen Durchmessers unter Verwendung von Ringschrägkugellagern
untersucht. Der Versuch wurde bei 316°C unter einer inerten Stickstoffatmosphäre bei
einer Geschwindigkeit von 44 000 UpM durchgeführt. Die Belastung auf dem Apparat betrug 136 kg, was einer
j(i Hertz-Belastung von 14 060 kg/cm2 entspricht. Die
Laufringe und Kugeln waren aus M 50-rostfreiem Stahl, wohingegen die äußeren Laufrillen aus Silber-plattiertem
4340-Stahl waren.
Das Schmiermittel Nr. 1 war imstande, eine
η Versuchszeit von 100 Stunden ohne übermäßigen
Reibungsverschleiß an den Lagern oder den Lauf ringen durchzuhalten. Eine Probe der gleichen Mischung von
Polyphenylthioäthern und eine gemischte Polyphenyläther-Thioäther-Probe,
welche Phenyldihydrogenphos-
4(i phit, jedoch keine Trichloressigsäure enthielt, versagte
in dem Versuch, obwohl die Temperatur lediglich auf einem Wert von 260° C gehalten wurde.
Die Schmiermittel Nr. 2 und Nr. 5 wurden auf einer Hochtemperatur-Verschleißmaschine auf ihre Schmier-
■n fähigkeit untersucht. Diese Maschine enthält eine
Stahlwelle, welche auf einer Silber-Bronze-Scheibe derart rotiert, daß eine Linienberührung zwischen der
Welle und der Scheibe besteht Dieser Test simuliert den Käfigverschleiß von Silber-plattierten Bronzelager-Kä-
Vi figen. Ein um die Achse beweglicher Hebel ermöglicht
es, die Versuchsscheibe gegen die Versuchswelle zu pressen. Die erhitzte Stahlwelle (338° C) rotiert gegen
die Scheibe mit 30 180UpM bei einer Belastung von 2^5 Dekanewton, wobei die in Kontakt befindlichen
,5 Oberflächen mit dem Versuchsöl mit einer Fließgeschwindigkeit
von 1 ml pro Minute geschmiert werden. Bei dem Versuch benötigte die Welle 1 Minute, um die
Umdrehungsgeschwindigkeit (30 180 UpM) zu erreichen;
sie wurde bei dieser Geschwindigkeit 5 Minuten
M) lang gehalten und anschließend bis zum Halt auslaufen
gelassen (1 Minute). Dann wurde die Verschleißnarbe gemessen. Ein Versagen im Versuch wird durch Fressen
der Welle und der Scheibe, oder durch eine übermäßige
Verschleißnarbe angezeigt
b5 Wenn die Schmiermittel Nr. 2 und Nr. 3 bei 338°C und
ebenso bei 373° C untersucht wurden, trat kein Fressen
auf und die Verschleißnarbe war nicht übermäßig groß.

der organischen Säure bei 3380C untersuchte, bestand
diese den Versuch nicht und versagte.
Die Schmierung der Schmiermittel Nr. 2 und Nr. 3 wurde auch noch mit einer langsam laufenden
4-Kugel-Maschine gezeigt. Eine langsam laufende 4-Kugel-Maschine mißt die Grenzschmierwirkung von
Additiven. Dieser Versuch ist eine Variation des bekannten »Shell-Four-Ball-Test«, bei welchem eine
Kugel um drei stationäre Kugeln rotiert. Verschleißnarben und/oder Freßbelastung messen die Schmierfähigkeit
des Additivs. In dem langsam laufenden Instrument wurden die drei stationären Kugeln durch Kreisscheiben
ersetzt. Die Standard-Betriebsbedingungen sind:

Die Rotationsgeschwindigkeit ist sehr niedrig, nämlich 1 UpM. Dies entspricht 2,24 cm/min. Dies wird aus
zwei Gründen so gemacht Es sind Grenzbedingungen verbürgt, d. h. Kontakt von Metall zu Metall. Es werden
ebenso Metallhaut-Temperaturfunken eliminiert, welche bei hohen Geschwindigkeiten auftreten können.
Dementsprechend ist die Temperatur der Hauptmasse des Öls gleich der Metalloberflächen-Temperaiur.
Unter diesen Bedingungen ist der Verschleiß zu vernachlässigen und die Reibung pflegt der Schmierung
zu folgen. Nachdem die Kugel und die Scheibe mit dem Versuchsöl bedeckt wurden, wurde der Wert der
Anfangsreibung festgehalten. Die Versuchsprobe wurde anschließend auf 3710C unter kontinuierlicher Registrierung
der Reibung erhitzt Dies liefert ein Grenzreibungs-Temperaturprofil
für die Versuchsflüssigkeit über diesen Temperaturbereich.
Die Schmiermittel Nr. 2 und Nr. 3 wurden nach diesem Verfahren an rostfreiem Stahl 316 getestet
Der beobachtete Reibungskoeffizient für Schmiermittel Nr. 2 war innerhalb des Bereiches von
Raumtemperatur bis 37 Γ C stets zwischen 030 und 0,66.
Der für das Schmiermittel Nr. 3 beobachtete Reibungskoeffizient lag im Bereich von Raumtemperatur
bis 3710C stets unterhalb 0,46.
Wenn man die Basisflüssigkeit ohne das Additiv der organischen Säure unter den gleichen Bedingungen
untersuchte, zeigte der Reibungskoeffizient mit dem Ansteigen der Temperatur einen steilen Anstieg und
überschritt den Wert von 2,0 in beiden Beispielen 2 und 3.
Die Schmierfähigkeit des Schmiermittels Nr. 2 wurde ferner noch mittels des Hochgeschwindigkeit-Falex-Testes
unter Verwendung einer M-10-Stahlnadel und
Meehanite-Gußeisen-Blöcken gezeigt. Das Schmiermittel aus Beispiel 1 hatte eine Versagenseinbuße von
12,7 kg/cm2, wohingegen das Schmiermittel ohne das
Phenylphosphinsäure-Additiv bereits bei 1,76 bis 3,52 kg/cm2 versagte.
Eine gleiche Flüssigkeit wie das Schmiermittel Nr. 2, die noch 0,1 Gewichtsprozent Phenylphosphinsäure als
Schmierfähigkeits-Additiv enthielt wurde nach dem langsamlaufenden 4-K.ugel-Test unter Verwendung von
M-50-Stahl für Kugel und Scheiben untersucht Diese Flüssigkeit hatte eine niedrigere Grenzreibung als das
ungemischte öl von 93,3° bis 2600C und von 316° bis
37 Γ C. Bei keiner Temperatur von Raumtemperatur bis
2j 371°C überschritt die Reibung der Mischung diejenige
des Basismaterials in wesentlichem Maße.
Es ist selbstverständlich, daß die Schmiermittel der vorliegenden Erfindung außer der Polyphenylthioäther-Basisflüssigkeit
und dem Trichloressigsäure-Additiv
jo ebenso auch andere Additive enthalten können, wie
beispielsweise Oxidationsinhibitoren, Rost- und Korrosionsinhibitoren, Antischaummittel, Waschmittel, Viskositätsindexverbesserer,
wie beispielsweise polymere Materialien, z.B. Polyacrylatalkylester, Polymeth-
i> acrylatalkylester, Polyoxyalkylen-Verbindungen, Polyurethane,
und dergleichen. Derartige Additive werden gewöhnlich in Mengen von nur 10 ppm für das
Antischaummittel bis hinauf zu 15 Gewichtsteilen der gesamten Zubereitung für Viskositätsindex-Verbesserer
eingesetzt
Claims (1)
- Patentansprüche:!.Schmiermittel,bestehend aus(1) einem größerer Anteil eines Polyphenylthioäthers der allgemeinen FormelR-Y(R'-Y)n-R,worin R eine Phenylgruppe oder eine substituierte Phenylgruppe, R' eine Phenyiengruppe i« oder eine substituierte Phenyiengruppe, in welchen die Substituenten an den Phenyl- und Phenylengruppen Halogen, Alkyl oder Alkoxy mit 1 bis 4 Kohlenstoffatomen sind, η eine ganze Zahl mit einem Wert von 1 bis 6 ist, Y Schwefel oder Sauerstoff bedeutet, vorausgesetzt, daß zumindest eine der Y-Gruppen Schwefel ist, oder Mischungen derartiger Polyphenylthioäther,(2) 0,01 bis 2,0 Gewichtsprozent(a) Trichloressigsäure,(b) einer zweibasischen, perfluorierten, aliphatischen Säure der allgemeinen Formel
