Umsetzung einer aromatischen Verbindung mit einem Kondensationsprodukt höherer ungesättigter Kohlenwasserstoffe,
z. B. Olefine oder polymerisierter Olefine bzw. ihrer Derivate, mit Schwefelhalogeniden, vorzugsweise
Schwefelmonochlorid, nach Patentschrift 934 069 hergestellten Produkten als Zusatzmittel zu
Schmierölen.
Diese Zusatzstoffe vermindern das Kleben des Auspuffventils bei Verbrennungsmaschinen sowie die
Korrosion der Lagerlegierungen, verbessern die Reinhaltung des Motors durch geringere Abscheidung in den
Ringnuten, Kolbenkanten und anderen Teilen und erhöhen die Filmfestigkeit, weswegen sie auch als Zusätze
für Hochdruckschmiermittel verwendet werdenkönnen.
Die Zusätze werden am besten den Schmierölen in Mengen von etwa 0,02 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent, vorteilhaft
0,1 bis 2 Gewichtsprozent, zugesetzt, wobei die Zusatzmenge unter anderem von den verwendeten Verbindungen,
der Beschaffenheit des Mineralöls und den Arbeitsbedingungen des Motors abhängt. Für Hochdruckschmiermittel
werden Zusatzmengen von 1 bis 15 Gewichtsprozent, vorzugsweise 2 bis 20 Gewichtsprozent,
verwendet, wobei die Zusatzmenge jeweils auf das Gesamtschmiermittel bezogen ist.
Die Zusätze können auch als 25- bis 75gewichtsprozentiges Konzentrat im Schmieröl den Schmierölen
zugesetzt werden. Solche Konzentrate sind praktisch, um Transportgewicht und Raum zu sparen und das
Verschneiden zu erleichtern.
' Beispiel ι
Dieses Beispiel zeigt die Verhinderung der Korrosion
von Kupfer-Blei-Lagern durch ein typisches Mineralschmieröl. Das als Grundstoff verwendete Öl ist ein
raffiniertes Mid-Continent-Mineralöl S.A.E. 20. Eine
unvermischte Probe dieses Öls sowie Ölproben mit geringen Mengen der verschiedenen Zusätze werden
durch einen Lagerkorrosionstest geprüft, der in folgender Weise ausgeführt wird.
500 ecm Öl werden in ein Glasoxydationsrohr (33 cm Länge und 6,7 cm Durchmesser) eingebracht,
das am Boden mit einem Lufteinlaßrohr von 6 mm lichter Weite versehen ist, das zwecks besserer Luftverteilung
gelocht ist. Das Oxydationsrohr wird dann in ein Heizbad eingetaucht und die Öltemperatur
während des Versuches auf 163° gehalten. Dis Hälfte eines vollständigen Automobillagers aus einer Kupfer-Blei-Legierung
von bekanntem Gewicht mit einer Gesamtfläche von 25 qcm wird an gegenüberliegendenSeiteneinerrostfreienStahlstangeangebracht,
die dann in das Versuchsöl eingetaucht und mit 600 Umdrehungen je Minute in Umdrehung versetzt wird.
Luft wird dann durch das Öl mit der Geschwindigkeit von 0,056 cbm je Stunde durchgeblasen. Nach Verlauf von
j e 4 Stunden wird die Oberfläche der Lager wieder poliert. Jedesmal werden die Lager entfernt, mit Benzin gewaschen
und gewogen, um den Gewichtsverlust durch Korrosion (vor dem Wiederpolieren) zu bestimmen. Die
gesamten Gewichtsverluste aller bei einem gegebenen Versuch benutzten Lager am Ende der verschiedenen
4-Stunden-Zeitabschnitte sind in Tabelle I wiedergegeben. Die Numerierung der Beispiele erfolgte entsprechend
derjenigen der Beispiele der Patenschrift 934 069. Jede Ölmischung enthält 0,25 Gewichtsprozent
des Zusatzes. (In den Fällen, in denen der Zusatz ein 5o°/0iges Konzentrat in Öl ist, werden
0,5 Gewichtsprozent desselben, entsprechend einem tatsächlichen Zusatz von 0,25%, verwendet.)

Aus der Tabelle ergibt sich, daß jeder der verschiedenen schwefelhaltigen Zusätze merklich den
Korrosionswiderstand des Lagers gegen das Grundöl erhöht, wenn auch nicht alle Zusätze diese Wirkung
in gleichem Maße zeigen.
In der folgenden Versuchsreihe werden reines Öl und Mischungen mit 0,25 Gewichtsprozent Zusatzstoff
einem Standard-Indiana-Oxydationsversuch, der im S.A.E.-Journal, Bd. 34, S. 167 (1934), beschrieben
ist, unterworfen. Die Ergebnisse sind in Tabelle II dargestellt. Die Werte geben die Stundenzahl wieder,
die für 10 g Öl erforderlich ist, um 10 mg Schlamm
zu erzeugen.

Bei den nachfolgenden Versuchen besteht das Grundöl aus einem durch Lösungsmittel extrahierten
Mid-Continent-Paraffinöl von 1,49° E/ioo°, 110 V.l.
(Dean und D avis), dem ungefähr 0,8 Gewichtsprozent Polybuten (Molekulargewicht etwa 12000) als V.I.-Verbesserer
zugesetzt sind, um ein Schmieröl von 1640 E/ioo° und 125 V.l. zu ergeben. Das verdickte
Grundöl und eine Mischung desselben mit 0,57 Gewichtsprozent des nach Beispiel 1 der Patentschrift
934 069 hergestellten Zusatzes wurden Schmierölversuchen in einem 6-ZyHnder-Chevroletmotor
unterworfen, wobei jeder Ansatz 64 Stunden lang bei 3150 Umdr./Min., 30-PS-Leistung, Verhältnis Luft zu
Kraftstoff = 13,5 :1,138° Schmieröltemperatur und
94° Mantelkühlwassertemperatur läuft. Die Menge des aktiven Zusatzes in dem Ölverschnitt betrug 0,285 Gewichtsprozent.
Um die Korrosivität der Öle zu untersuchen, wurden zwei der sechs verbundenen Kurbelstangen
in dem Motor mit Kupfer-Blei-Lagern ausgestattet. Nach jedem Ansatz wurden die Teile des
Motors untersucht und Verlustangaben gemacht. Die Angabe Null zeigte einen reinen Motorenteil und die
Angabe 10 einen Teil, dessen ganze Oberfläche korrodiert
ist. Die einzelnen Angaben wurden entsprechend ihrer relativen Bedeutung gewertet, und es
wurde eine Durchschnittsangabe daraus berechnet. Je geringer die Verlustangabe ist, um so besser ist
der Zustand des Motors, und infolgedessen um so mehr leistet das Öl in dem Motor.
Die Ergebnisse dieser Untersuchung unter Einschluß der Gewichtsverluste der Kupfer-Blei-Lager gibt
Tabelle III.

Danach verbessert der Zusatz erheblich die Motorenleistung des Grundöls; eine Verminderung des Verlustes
von 1,73 auf 1,35 bedeutet eine sehr erhebliche Zunahme des Reinheitsgrades des Motors. Ferner bewirkt
das zusatzhaltige Öl nur ungefähr 12% der Korrosion des zusatzfreien Grundöls.
Die folgenden Motorenversuche werden in 6ostündigen Zeitabschnitten in einem Einzelzylinder-Caterpillar-Dieselmotor
ausgeführt, die bei hohen Temperaturen und unter hohen Belastungen, nämlich 18,78-PS-Leistung (112% der berechneten Belastung),
1000 Umdr./Min., 900 Schmieröltemperatur und 6o°
Lufttemperatur laufen. Das als Schmiermittel in dem Motor verwendete Grundöl ist ein durch Lösungsmittel
extrahiertes Mid-Continent-Paraffinöl von 1640 E/1000.
Die Ergebnisse, die mit diesem Öl und einer Ölmischung mit 1 Gewichtsprozent des Zusatzkonzentrats
nach Beispiel 3 (= 0,5 Gewichtsprozent Zusatz in der Mischung) gewonnen werden, zeigt Tabelle IV.

Unter den schweren Versuchsbedingungen erzielt der Zusatz eine bemerkenswerte Verbesserung der
Leistung des Grundöls. Bekannte schwefelhaltige Zusatzstoffe, wie sulfuriertes Walratöl und tertiäres
Amylphenolsulfid, genügen zwar als Lagerkorrosionsverzögerer und bis zu einem gewissen Grade für die
Verbesserung von Brennkraftmotoren unter normalen Arbeitsbedingungen, sind aber als Schmiermittel für
Motoren unter hoher Belastung und hohen Temperaturen vollkommen ungeeignet. Wie obiges Beispiel
zeigt, sind die Zusätze gemäß Erfindung auch zur Verwendung unter diesen schwierigen Bedingungen
geeignet, und zwar nicht allein zur Verbesserung der Motorenleistung, sondern auch zur Verhinderung der
Korrosion der Lagerlegierung.
Das Beispiel zeigt die Wirkung von Zusätzen gemäß Erfindung zur Verminderung des Ventilklebens bei
Motoren. Für die Versuche wurde ein C.F.R.-Einzylindermotor bei 83° Schmieröltemperatur, 830 Kühlwassermanteltemperatur
und einer Geschwindigkeit von 1550 Umdr./Min. benutzt. In jedem Falle lief
der Motor so lange, bis das Ventil unregelmäßig zu arbeiten begann, was sich in einem Abfall der Leistung
äußert und sich mit einem Stroboskop feststellen läßt. Das als Schmiermittel verwendete Öl war ein raffiniertes
Coastalöl (naphthenbasisches Öl; V.l. = 0) von 2,40° E/1000. Die Prüfergebnisse für das Grundöl
und die Mischung mit 0,5 Gewichtsprozent Zusatzkonzentrat nach Beispiel 3 (d. h. 0,25 Gewichtsprozent
Zusatzstoff) sind in Tabelle V zusammengestellt.

Die Zusätze gemäß Erfindung erhöhen nicht nur die Fähigkeit des Schmieröls, den Motor sauberzuhalten,
sondern verbessern auch erwünschte Eigenschaften anderer Detergents, besonders der Metallseifen, Metallphenolate,
Metallalkoholate, Metallphenolsulfide, Metall-Mahagonisulfonate,
Metallalkylphenolsulfonate, organischen Metallphosphate, Thiophosphate, Thiophosphite.
Die beiden folgenden Beispiele beschreiben Motorenversuche, bei denen die Zusätze in Verbindung
mit Metallsalzen alkylierter Phenolsulfide benutzt werden. Man sieht daraus, daß deren Wirkung als Reinigungsmittel
durch die Zusätze gemäß Erfindung sehr no erhöht wird und daß gleichzeitig die Gewichtsverluste
der Kupfer-Blei-Lager wesentlich vermindert werden.
Die Versuche wurden mit einem Chevroletmotor durchgeführt, wobei jeder Versuch 36 Stunden lang
bei 3150 Umdr./Min., 30 PS, 180° Schmieröltemperatur
und i8o° Kühlwassermanteltemperatur ausgeführt wurde. Motorverlustzahlen und Kupferlager-Gewichtsverluste
wurden bestimmt. DasGrundschmierölbestand aus einem lösungsmittelextrahierten Coastalöl (naphthenbasisches
Öl; V.l. =0) von i,88° E/1000, dem 0,5 Gewichtsprozent
Barium-diisobutylphenolsulfid, 0,5 Gewichtsprozent Barium-diisobutylphenoldisulfid und
0,25 Gewichtsprozent Stearinalkohol als Reinigungs- und Hilfsmittel zugesetzt waren. Das Öl wurde für
sich und nach Mischung mit 0,25 Gewichtsprozent reinem Zusatz nach Beispiel 3 im Motor untersucht.
Die Ergebnisse zeigt folgende Tabelle.

Ein 5o°/0iges Zusatzkonzentrat, hergestellt aus
Schwefelmonochlorid, Diisobutylen und Phenol wie im Beispiel 1, wird mit einem S.A.E. 90-Getriebeöl
vermischt (das selbst eine Mischung von Pennsylvania- und Mid-Continentöl ist) in 2-, 5- und iogewichtsprozentiger
Konzentration (1, 2,5 und 5 Gewichtsprozent tatsächlichen Zusatz) und mit dem
Grundöl selbst in der Almeii- und S.A.E.-Testmaschine
verglichen. Diese ist im S.A.E.-Journal (Transactions), 1936, S. 293, beschrieben. Die Ergebnisse
sind folgende:

Als Grundöle können reine Mineralschmieröle aus paraffinischen, naphthenischen, asphaltischen oder gemischten
Rohölen oder verschiedene gemischte Öle wie Destillationsrückstände, insbesondere asphaltfreie,
in üblicher Weise raffinierte oder extrahierte Öle, sowie tierische, pflanzliche oder Fischöle, deren
hydrierte oder voltolisierte Produkte in Mischung mit Mineralölen verwendet werden.
Die Schmieröle können unabhängig von der Art ihrer Herstellung je nach ihrem Verwendungszweck
sehr beträchtlich in der Viskosität und anderen Eigenschaften variieren. Für gewöhnlich liegen die
Viskositäten bei etwa 1,35 bis 4,27° E/ioo°. Als Schmiermittel für Dieselmotoren mit niedriger und
mittlerer Geschwindigkeit verwendet man im allgemeinen ein Grundöl aus naphthenischen oder
aromatischen Rohstoffen, 1,46 bis 2,65° E/ioo° und eines Viskositätsindex von ο bis 50 (Dean und
Davis). Für andere Dieselmotoren, namentlich solche
mit hoher Geschwindigkeit, und für Benzinmotoren werden oft Öle von einem höheren Viskositätsindex,
beispielsweise bis 75 und 100 und höher, verlangt.
Die Schmieröle können neben den erfmdungsgemäßen Zusatzstoffen noch andere Stoffe wie Färbstoffe,
Stockpunktherabsetzer, sulfirrierte Fettöle,
Schlammverteiler, Antioxydantien, Viskositätsverbesserer, Olefinpolymere, voltolisierte Mineralöle und
kolloidale feste Stoffe, wie Graphit oder Zinkoxyd, enthalten. Löslichkeitsverbesserer, wie Ester und Ketone,
und Schaumbekämpfungsmittel, wie Alkohole oder Aldehyde, können auch verwendet werden.
Die Zusätze gemäß Erfindung sind für Schmiermittel allgemein, ferner Hochdruckschmiermittel,
Spindelöle, Turbinenöle und Dampfzylinderöle verwendbar.
Claims (3)
1. Verwendung von Umsetzungsprodukten aromatischer Verbindungen mit Kondensationsprodukten
höherer ungesättigter Kohlenwasserstoffe, z. B. Olefine oder deren Polymerisate, mit Schwefelhalogeniden
nach Patentschrift 934 069 als Zusatzmittel zu Schmierölen.
2. Ausführungsform der Erfindung nach Anspruch i, gekennzeichnet durch die Verwendung
des Zusatzmittels in Mengen von 1 bis 15 Gewichtsprozent,
vorzugsweise von 2 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent, und 0,1 bis 2 Gewichtsprozent des Gesamtschmiermittels.
3. Ausführungsform der Erfindung nach Anspruch I und 2, gekennzeichnet durch die Verwendung
eines 25- bis 75gewichtsprozentigen Konzentrates des Zusatzmittels in Schmierölen.
