Description
Die Entwicklung synthetischer Schmiermittel, vor allem zur Verwendung in Flugzeugen, wurde in den
letzten Jahren sehr stark gefördert. Derartige Schmiermittel müssen unter schwierigen Betriebsverhältnissen,
insbesondere bei hohen Temperaturen, beständig bleiben. Viele Schmiermittel entsprechend wohl
einigen Anforderungen derart strenger Vorschriften, versagen aber in anderen, ebenfalls wesentlichen Dingen.
Viele diese Anforderungen stehen im Gegensatz zueinander, so z.B. die Notwendigkeit einer wirksamen
und zufriedenstellenden Schmierung, während für viele Zwecke das Schmiermittel gleichzeitig eine
verhältnismäßig n/edrige Viskosität bei niedrigen Temperaturen, andererseits keine zu niedrige Viskosität
bei erhöhten Temperaturen haben soll. Es wird noch schwieriger, die gestellten Anforderungen zu erfüllen
infolge des großen Temperaturbereiches, innerhalb dessen ein gegebenes Fluidum arbeiten soll.
Ein Ziel der Erfindung ist die Schaffung synthetischer Schmiermittel mit verbesserten Eigenschaften
bei hohen Temperaturen.
Ein weiteres Ziel der Erfindung ist die Schaffung beständiger Schmiermittel für Gasturbinen mit ausgezeichneter
Schmierwirkung in einem großen Temperaturbereich sowie einer minimalen Tendenz zur Erhöhung
der Viskosität und der Säurezahl im Gebrauch, insbesondere bei erhöhten Temperaturen.
Man hat festgestellt, daß ein geeignetes Schmiermittel, das insbesondere als Schmiermittel für
Gasturbinen gedacht ist, aus einem größeren Anteil von Pentaerythrityl-tetraestern gesättigter Fettsäuren
mit 3 bis 7 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül und 1 bis 45 Gewichtsprozent des Gesamtmittels eines Dipentaerythrityl-hexaesters
von Fettsäuren mit 1 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül besteht. Wenn der Verschleiß oder die Grenzschmierung keine
größeren Probleme darstellen, kann der Anteil an dem Dipentaerythrityl-Ester auf 30 oder auf 10, sogar
auf 1 % herabgesetzt werden. Man erhält jedoch bei den Pentaerythrityl-tetraestern überraschend
bessere Grenzschmierungseigenschaften, wenn man den Anteil an dem Dipentaerythrityl-Ester auf etwa
30 bis 45% erhöht. Vorzugsweise ist der Pentaerythrityl-tetraester ein solcher, bei welchem ein Gemisch
gesättigter Fettsäuren mit je 4 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen verwendet wird, und eine optimale Kombination
ist eine solche, bei welcher sich die durchschnittliche Acylkettenlänge auf 5 Kohlenstoffatome in dem
Säuregemisch beläuft. Weiterhin zieht man vor, daß sich der Anteil an dem Dipentaerythrityl-Ester auf
eine Gewichtsmenge von etwa 2,5 bis 7,5% beschränkt (falls die Grenzschmierung nicht vorherr-Schmiermittel

Molekül. Der optimale Ester dieses Typs ist ein solcher, bei welchem sich die durchschnittliche Acylkettenlänge
auf 6 Kohlenstoffatome in dem Säuregemisch beläuft.
Es ist bereits bekannt, Ester des Pentaerythrits mit C5-C10-Fettsäuren als Schmieröle oder Zusätze zu
Schmierölen zu verwenden. Die erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermittel mit den oben beschriebenen Bestandteilen
zeigen eine überraschende Verbesserung im Betriebe bei hohen Temperaturen, insbesondere hinsichtlich
verminderter Lagerreibung, Verschleiß und mäßiger Lagertemperaturen, im Vergleich zu den Ergebnissen
bei Verwendung des Monopentaerythrityl-Esters allein.

innerhalb der vorstehend angegebenen Grenzen den Betrieb bei Lagertemperaturen, die erheblich
höher sind, als es bei Schmiermitteln zulässig wäre, bei denen der Dipentaerythrityl-Ester fortgelassen
wurde (Schmiermittel X und A). Jedoch sind bei diesen vergleichenden Testen (Beispiel I) auch die
anderen gemessenen Eigenschaften gleich wichtig. Es ist ferner bemerkenswert, daß bei diesen vergleichenden
Testen die Temperatur, bei welcher die Viskosität einen willkürlich angenommenen Wert von
13 000 cSt erreicht, bei den erfindungsgemäßen Schrniermitteln wesentlich niedriger ist als beim Pentaerythrityl-tetracaproat.
In den nachfolgenden Beispielen sind die Verhältnisse, unter welchen die Schmiermittel getestet wurden,
die gleichen, wie sie in dem Korrosions-Oxydations-Teil der Militärvorschrift MIL-L-7808C angegeben
sind, abgesehen davon, daß eine Temperatur von 232,22° C zur Anwendung gelangte anstatt einer
solchen von 175° C, wie sie die Vorschrift angibt. Bei diesem Test wird das Material unter oxydierenden
Verhältnissen in der Gegenwart von metallenen Probestreifen erhitzt. Nach dem Test bestimmt man
die Gewichtszunahme bzw. den Gewichtsverlust der Metallstreifen, die Neutralisationszahl sowie die
Änderung von dessen Viskosität.
Es werden zwei Schmiermittel hergestellt, deren Zusammensetzung in der nachstehenden Tabelle 3
angegeben ist. Von diesen ist das Muster X eines der bisher verwendeten Schmiermittel, bestehend aus
einem Pentaerythrityl-tetracaproat, das durch eine Kombination von Diphenylamin und Phenothiazin
stabilisiert ist. Das für die vorliegende Erfindung typische Muster A besteht aus einer Kombination von
Pentaerythrityl-tetravalerat mit 5 Gewichtsprozent Dipentaerythrityl-hexacaproat, ebenfalls stabilisiert
mit Diphenylamin + Phenothiazin. Wie aus den in der Tabelle 1 angeführten Testdaten hervorgeht, zeigt
das erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel bei allen hier aufgezeichneten Testen ausgesprochen bessere Eigenschaften
als das bisher verwendete Schmiermittel.

Diese Tabelle zeigt auch, daß das erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel ((Muster A) bessere Viskositätskennwerte
bei niedriger Temperatur aufweist als das bisher verwendete Schmiermittel (Muster X).
Ein Koksbildungstest wird mit verschiedenen
Schmiermittern bei einer Temperatur von 371,11° C
auf die Dauer von 8 Stunden vorgenommen. In der nachstehenden Tabelle 2 sind die Ergebnisse dieses
Testes angeführt:

Die Schmiermittel werden in einem Typ-2-Lagertest einem Vergleich unterzogen. Bei diesem Test
verwendet man ein Normlager, eine Drehzahl von 10 000 Umdr./Min. und eine Ölbehältertemperatur
von 226,67° C, wobei das Lager mit 226,8 kg belastet
wird. Unter diesen Verhältnissen tritt bei einem Schmiermittel, das nur den in Tabelle 1 angeführten
gemischten Pentaerythrityl-Ester enthielt, in dem Lager nach nur etwa 30 Minuten ein solches Maß
von Fressen auf, daß die Lagertemperatur außergewöhnlich zunimmt und der Test abgebrochen werden
muß. Bei einem gleichen Test mit dem Muster A (Tabelle 1) ist dagegen selbst nach 100 Betriebsstunden
keine Zunahme der Lagertemperatur festzustellen. Das beweist den Nutzen des Zusatzes des Di-
pentaerythrityl-Esters fur die Verhältnisse der Grenzschmierung.

Bildung von Koks, Schlamm und sonstiger Ablagerungen und erhöht in unerwarteter Weise die Lebensdauer

gleichzeitig ein hoher Grad der Oxydations- und Korrosionsbeständigkeit des Schmiermittels aufrechterhalten

Verbesserung der Höchstdruckeigenschaften durch den Zusatz auch nur von Bruchteilen der sulfurierten,
ungesättigten Fettsäure.
Geeignete öllösliche, sulfurierte, ungesättigte Fettsäuren sind sulfurierte Ölsäure, Erucasäure, Linolsäure,
Elaeostearinsäure, Palmitölsäure und Myristölsäure.
Bisher verwendete man Triarylphosphate in Schmiermitteln in der Regel zur Verbesserung der
verschleißverhindernden Eigenschaften. Es war daher überraschend, zu entdecken, daß bei den erfindungsgemäßen
Schmiermitteln ein geringer Anteil, vorzugsweise von 0,5 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent, von Triarylphosphaten
in noch nicht geklärter Weise eine wesentliche Herabsetzung der Bleikorrosion herbeiführt.
Zu den geeigneten Phosphaten gehören Phenyl-, Xylyl-, Toluyl, oder Cumylphosphate, wie z. B. Trikresyl-,
Triphenyl-, Tritoluyl- und Decumylxylylphosphat sowie Gemische derselben.
Die nachstehenden Beispiele erläutern diese besondere Seite der vorliegenden Erfindung:

Den obigen Daten ist zu entnehmen, daß der »Komplexester« übermäßig hohe Abwertungsraten
durch Ablagerungen im Lager und durch Gesamtablagerungen bewirkt und ebenso zu untragbaren
Mengen an Schlamm Anlaß gibt. Das Grundschmiermittel nach Muster A ergibt sehr viel niedrigere Abwertungsraten,
geringere Schlammbildung sowie einen geringen Ölverbrauch. Dagegen ergeben die Muster B-I
und B-2, also gerade die erfindungsgemäßen Schmiermittel, welche zusätzlich die sulfuriert© Säure enthalten,
eine ungefähr 40%ige Herabsetzung der Abwertung durch Ablagerungen in dem Lager, eine ungefähr
50%ige Herabsetzung der Abwertung durch Gesamtablagerungen, eine ungefähr 35- bzw. 2O°/oige
Verminderung des Gesamtfilterschlamms, eine ungefähr 15%ige Herabsetzung der Zunahme der Viskosität
sowie eine ungefähr 50%ige Herabsetzung des ölverbrauches gegenüber den entsprechenden Werten
für das Grundschmiermittel.
Ein weiterer Hochtemperaturtest ist bekannt unter der Bezeichnung »WADD Deposition Test«. Dieser
Test findet sich in allen Vorschriften der Luftwaffe für die Schmiermittel von Gasturbinen für Flugzeuge.
Bei diesem Test, welcher 12 Stunden in Anspruch nimmt, verwendet man eine Rohrtemperatur
von 31O0C, eine Öleintrittstemperatur von 148,89° C sowie eine öl- und Luftströmung von je 300 ml/Min.
Die Bewertungsgröße »rating« setzt sich zusammen aus der zehnfachen Menge des gebildeten Kokses plus
der einfachen Menge des gebildeten Schlammes in Gramm. Diesem Test werden die gleichen Schmiermittel
wie im Beispiel V unterzogen; die Ergebnisse sind in der nachstehenden Tabelle 5 angeführt:

Den obigen Daten ist zu entnehmen, daß der »Komplexester« (Muster C) eine übermäßige Koksund
Schlammbildung ergibt, woraus sich eine hohe, also schlechte Bewertungsgröße errechnete. Das
Grundschmiermittel, nämlich der Pentaerythrityl-Ester (Muster A), ist in jeder Hinsicht viel besser,
aber erst die Gegenwart sulfurierter Ölsäure (Muster B) führt zu einer auffallenden Verbesserung
in der Verminderung von Koks und Schlamm sowie in der Herabsetzung der Bewertungsgröße.
Eines der Kriterien für ein zufriedenstellendes Wirken
eines Zusatzes für Schmiermittel ist, daß der Zusatz nicht nur eine gegebene Funktion auszuführen
hat, sondern auch bei der Erfüllung seiner Aufgabe das Schmiermittel nicht in anderer Hinsicht merklich
verschlechtert. Von Wichtigkeit ist in dem vorliegenden Falle der Korrosions-Oxydations-Test, der mit
den Mustern A, B und C bei zwei verschiedenen Temperaturen vorgenommen wurde. Bei einer Hochtemperaturmodifikation
des MIL-L-7808-Korrosions- und Oxydations-Stabilitäts-Normtestes wird derselbe
in 72 Stunden durchgeführt unter Verwendung von fünf Metallkatalysatoren (Mg, Al, Cu, Fe, Ag) und
bei einer Luftströmung von 51 je Stunde. Die Ergebnisse sind in der nachstehenden Tabelle 6 niedergelegt.
Aus jedem Satz der Testergebnisse ist zu ersehen, daß das Muster B sowohl dem Grundschmiermittel
(Muster A) als auch dem zum Vergleich herangezogenen üblichen Schmiermittel (Muster C) überlegen
ist.

Das Grundschmiermittel allein sowie mit verschiedenen Zusätzen an sulfurierter Ölsäure (mit etwa
10 °/o S) wird einem Ryder-Getriebetest unterzogen, um dieBelastungsfähigkeit zu ermitteln. Die Ergebnisse
dieser Teste unter Verwendung der MIL-L-7808C-Methode (bei einer Drehzahl von 10000 Umdr./Min.
und einer Öleintrittstemperatur von 73,89° C) sind in der nachstehenden Tabelle 7 angeführt. Die ange-

Man sieht also, daß die geringen Anteile an sulfurierter Ölsäure dem Grundschmiermittel eine bemerkenswert
hohe Belastungsfähigkeit verliehen haben. Auch die Zusätze anderer kräftig wirkender
Höchstdruckmittel zur Erhöhung der Belastungsfähigkeit und sonstige Medien wurden untersucht,
aber als praktisch unwirksam befunden.
Außer der Fähigkeit eines Schmiermittels, unter zunehmend hoher Belastung in zufriedenstellender
Weise zu schmieren, müssen auch andere Bedingungen der Höchstdruckschmierung in gleicher Weise
erfüllt werden. Für die eine derselben wird ein Test herangezogen, der unter der Bezeichnung »Gear Pitting
Fatigue Life Test« (Getriebe-Ermüdungstest bis zum Auftreten von Grübchenbildung) bekannt ist.
Viele Schmiermittel, welche bei dem normalen Ryder-Getriebetest Höchstdruckeigenschaften zeigen, versagen
bei dem soeben erwähnten Ermüdungstest. Die Testbedingungen umfassen die Schmierung in
einer Ryder-Zahnradmaschine bei einer Drehzahl von 10000 Umdr./Min., bei einer Belastung von
589,38 kg/cm Zahnbreite und einer Öleintrittstemperarur
von 73,89° C. Das Versagen zeigt sich durch das Auftreten von drei sichtbaren Grübchen an nicht
benachbarten Getriebezähnen. Bei der Anwendung dieses Testes stellte man fest, daß das Muster A während
des Einlaufens einen hohen Anfangsfreßpegel ergibt (in der Größenordnung von 60%), so daß der
Ermüdungstest abgebrochen werden muß. Das erfindungsgemäße Schmiermittel — Muster B — ergibt
eine Lebensdauer bis zur Grübchenbildung von mehr als 120 Stunden.
Die Fähigkeit der Triarylphosphate zur Verminderung der Bleikorrosion durch die erfindungsgemäßen
Schmiermittel wird durch die in der nachstehenden Tabelle 8 angeführten Testdaten nachgewiesen. Bei
der Ausführung dieses Testes, welcher als Mac-Coull-Ryder-Bleikorrosionstest
bezeichnet wird, werden Bleischnitzel in dem Schmiermittel 5 Stunden lang bei einer Temperatur von 162,78° C erhitzt, worauf der
Verlust an Bleischnitzelgewicht bestimmt wird. Als Grundschmiermittel wird dabei das Muster B-I verwendet.
Claims (13)
1. Schmiermittel auf der Grundlage von Pentaerythrityl-Estern, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
dasselbe aus einem größeren Anteil eines Pentaerythrityl-tetraesters gesättigter Fettsäure mit 3
bis 7 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül und 1 bis 45 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf das Gesamtschmiermittel,
eines Dipentaerythrityl-hexaesters von Fettsäuren mit 4 bis 12 Kohlenstoffatomen
im Molekül besteht.
2. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Säurekomponente der
Tetraester und bzw. und/oder der Hexaester ein Gemisch von Fettsäuren ist.
3. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Säurekomponente
der Tetraester ein Gemisch von Fettsäuren mit je 4 bis 6 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül ist.
4. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1 und 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die Säurekomponente
der Hexaester ein Gemisch von Fettsäuren mit je 4 bis 10, z. B. 5 bis 7 Kohlenstoffatomen im
Molekül ist.
5. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es den Hexaester in
einem Anteil von 1 bis 30, vorzugsweise von 1 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent des Gesamtgewichts des
Schmiermittels enthält.
6. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1 bis 5, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß dasselbe zusätzlich ein
als Schmiermittelbestandteil bekanntes Diarylamin und bzw. und/oder ein Thiodiarylamin in einer
kleinen Menge, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 2,5 Gewichtsprozent des Gesamtmittels, enthält.
7. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß das Diarylamin Phenyla-naphthylamin
oder Diphenylamin und das Thiodiarylamin Phenothiazin ist.
8. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß dasselbe zusätzlich
eine als Schmiermittelzusatz bekannte öllösliche, sulfurierte, ungesättigte Fettsäure mit 14 bis
22 Kohlenstoffatomen im Molekül und einem Schwefelgehalt von 8 bis 25% in einer kleinen
Menge, vorzugsweise 0,02 bis 1 Gewichtsprozent des Gesamtmittels, enthält.
9. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß die ungesättigte Fettsäure
Ölsäure ist.

10. Schmiermittel gemäß Anspruch 1 bis 9, da- kresylphosphat, Kresyldiphenylphosphat oder Tridurch
gekennzeichnet, daß dasselbe zusätzlich ein phenylphosphat ist.

phat in einer kleinen Menge, vorzugsweise 0,5 bis
