技术领域

背景技术
随着无线移动设备上可用的通信服务的增长，制造在许多不同功能上均能优胜的单个设备变得日益复杂。许多评论家声称无线电话设备决不可能成为好的手持个人数字助理(PDA)设备，且手持PDA设备也决不能成为好的无线电话。还声称仅十几岁的青少年在使用即时消息收发(IM)服务或短消息服务(SMS)来与朋友和熟人交换消息，并且这种用户将购买完全不同的无线移动设备。然而，无线手持设备的许多用户希望单个设备上具有多种服务和功能性。
向用户在单个无线移动设备上呈现多种服务和功能向用于控制设备的用户界面(尤其是图形用户界面(GUI))的设计者提出了许多挑战。无线设备相对于如膝上型计算机和台式计算机等不太便携的计算设备通常较小。然而，固有地，无线移动设备的视频显示器(如LCD)或其它屏幕组件具有较小显示区域。

用户可以订阅多个类似服务，并且通过单个无线移动设备使这些服务可用。例如，用户可以订阅一个以上的即时消息型服务，如AOLTM即时消息收发软件(AIMTM)、ICQTM、Microsoft NetworkTM(MSNTM)、Yahoo！TM消息收发软件以及Quick MesssagingTM。可选地，或者同样地，用户可以使公司和私人电子邮件帐户与无线移动设备相连。当向用户通知如新的IM消息等新事件时，用户需要通过其各个激活图标分别检查其IM服务应用程序的每一个，以确定是哪个IM服务涉及该新事件。检查每个服务是不方便的。此外，存在使信息对用户可用比先前可用更快的需要，以最优化无线设备控制。

发明内容
本发明涉及一种用于在设备的显示器上通知并预览新事件的方法、图形用户界面及设备。
根据本发明的第一方案，提供了一种针对具有用于管理相应事件的多个应用程序的计算设备的方法，用位于设备的图形用户界面的屏幕上的应用程序图标来表示所述应用程序的单独一个。响应于所述应用程序之一的新事件，在屏幕上预览新事件的方法对所述应用程序之一的图标进行可视修改，以通知新事件。响应于可视修改的图标，用户可以调用所述应用程序之一。

具体实施方式

根据本发明实施例，响应于来自与图标(例如，304)相关联的应用程序的新事件，可以可视地修改图标，以通过主屏300中的改变提供对事件的直接通知。通知可以从针对类似服务的多个图标中辨别出该图标，以帮助用户控制移动台202，这将另外进行描述。
图3的主屏300中的每个图标均处于初始状态，指示没有新事件发生，并且继续不被用户观注。图4是新IM事件(如，新消息)到达与图标306相关联的一个IM应用程序(即，IM 2)之后的主屏300的图示。在此典型实施例中，利用可视修改400来指示新IM消息，包括引用新接收文本的泡(bubble)、以及表示对新事件的(在此情况下，是未读消息)计数的“1”。本领域内普通技术人员应当清楚，可以使用与所述泡不同的可视修改400，并且计数可以表示其它信息，如从其接收到一个或多个消息但尚未阅读的通信人或“密友”的数目。除指示未读消息数目之外，还可以使用此机制来反映其它新事件消息，如另外的与相关应用程序有关的状态信息。状态信息可以包括用户当前是否签收(及其用户名)、连接状态、以及用户的当前状态(离开与可用)。在如与图标310、312中的一个相关联的电子邮件应用程序中，计数可以是未读电子邮件消息或未读电子邮件的不同发送者的计数。类似计数可以表示SMS消息、约会、警告、或各个应用程序的其它事件。
可选地，计数对于每个应用程序或其实例而言是可配置的。针对应用程序图标304，可以是未读IM消息的不同发送者的数目，而针对应用程序图标308，可以是不同的未读IM消息的数目。
图5是用户动作之后的IM应用程序306的图示。当移动台202的用户使主屏的焦点从图标304移过306和308以加亮电话图标502时，可视修改400在图标306处继续存在，以保持可视修改，并向用户提醒有未读消息。优选地，仅当用户激活应用程序并阅读未读消息时，改变可视修改，例如，减少计数，如果计数为零，则消除修改。
图6是当加亮具有未读消息的IM应用程序图标306时主屏300的图示。当选择了图标306时，除加亮了该图标之外，显示包括至少部分未读消息的消息预览604的对话框602。在用户使图标306为焦点之后，可以暂时延迟打开对话框602。如果当用户在这些图标中导航时对话框打开得太快，则在用户导航到选择的特定图标之间，导航可能被取代。在名称区314打开对话框602，尽管本领域内普通技术人员知道也可以选择其它区域来定位对话框602。作为示例，对话框602中的消息预览604显示了应用程序服务(即，AOL即时消息软件的“AIM”)、发送消息的通信者(即，“red98”)、以及部分未读消息(即，“See you at 4:00...”)。
图7示出了针对以可视修改400指示的、具有两个未读消息的IM应用程序306的对话框602。对话框602包括消息预览604和704。由于主屏300的固有尺寸和对本领域内普通技术人员而言显而易见的其它考虑，可以此方式预览的未读消息的数目存在上限。可以由用户在预定范围内随意配置此上限，或者根据可用屏幕空间、字体等简单地配置最大尺寸。
可选地，根据本发明实施例，用户可以实现从主屏上的应用程序图标直接“跳转”(即，自动导航)到未读消息，除去当导航相关应用程序的GUI时正常进行导航以阅读消息的任何居间屏幕。例如，可以正常地激活加亮图标306(例如，选择键盘232上的“回车键”)，并发起应用程序，以在未读消息(例如，最近的，或最远的)处开始。可以跳过应用程序的初始屏幕或密友列表。“跳转”的时机可以是有时限的，并且仅在紧接新事件发生之后的较短时间段内可行，如从约几秒到约30秒。“跳转”激活预先考虑了用户查看未读消息的需要。
图8是在如移动台202等移动台的主屏上预览事件的另一实施例的图示。在此实施例中，通过相应可视修改802和804指示了两个分别针对IM应用程序图标304、306的每一个的新事件。可视修改802包括事件计数(即，未读消息计数)和提供了发送者身份和未读消息位置的消息预览。相似但不同的修改804包括事件计数和指示了IM通信密友TOM已经签名的状态预览。本领域内普通技术人员应当清楚，可以在根据本发明的主屏上显示不同事件，并且这些事件可能取决于相关应用程序。然而，可以选择性地配置选项。
图9A和9B是描述根据本发明的、可视修改应用程序图标以表示新事件的方法的流程图。图9A表示用于识别新事件以确定修改的操作900，以及图9B表示显示修改的操作901。
可以针对服务或如IM、电子邮件等其它应用程序来实现操作900。尽管未示出，根据事件类型，预先确定要在发生时监视(例如，通过GUI的监视组件)和可视指示(例如，通过图标修改组件)的事件，以进行通知和预览。例如，对于按照IM使用的操作900，计数是要计数不同的未读消息还是预先确定发送者。
在图9A的开始框902处开始，操作900开始，并针对新事件，监视由要修改的应用程序图标表示的应用程序(步骤904)。本领域内普通技术人员应当清楚，部分地，根据操作系统和其它系统服务以及通信子系统211和微处理器238之间的接口，可以多种方式来实现监视。要监视的多个应用程序的每一个可以具有专用监视组件，以确定各个新事件的发生。可选地，单个监视组件可以监视每个应用程序。可以连续地或间歇地执行监视，重复步骤904，直到确定了新事件为止。
当发生新事件时，在步骤906，由图标修改组件确定对要改变的图标的可视修改。递增计数器(如果有的话)，并且可以对要叠加的任何可视元素或图形进行配置。例如，如图8的可视修改802所例示的，可以获得文本，以便叠加。如果被监视的事件是读取先前未读的消息，则可以递减计数器。
可以建立可以根据修改图标执行的用户动作。例如，可以预先并与可视修改相关联地获得对话框的文本，以便用户在主屏上加亮了图标时使用。即使激活图标以发起应用程序，如果需要，也可以预先并与可视修改相关联地确定有助于立即自动跳转到最新未读消息的数据。可以识别消息发送者，并针对发送者准备不同用户动作选项。例如，可以向加亮了具有可视修改的图标的用户提供允许电话呼叫、电子邮件、SMS或其它可选消息的动作。
在步骤908，针对PIM GUI的主屏维护部分或负责维护主屏的其它应用程序，识别可视修改和任何相关数据，将参考操作901进一步进行描述。通知可以传递对象或其它数据共享机制，以提供修改和任何相关动作数据。之后，在操作900的步骤904，监视继续。在向移动台202供电期间，监视可以继续。
在步骤910开始，操作901开始主屏维护。在步骤912，操作监视器，以确定主屏是活动的。如果是，针对用户操作或通知对图标的可视修改，操作监视器(步骤914)。当这样发生时，绘制反映图标的可视修改或用户动作的新屏幕(步骤916，经由Yes分支)。典型用户动作正在主屏的图标上移动焦点或光标，以加亮图标或激活与该图标相关联的应用程序。对先前可视修改的图标的加亮还发起了对话框显示，这需要绘制主屏，如上所述。一旦在步骤916绘制了屏幕，或者如果在步骤914并未检测到新图标或用户动作，操作901在步骤912重复。在步骤912，如果主屏不再是活动的，例如，由于用户已经导航到另一屏幕，操作901可以终止(步骤918，经由No分支)，直到主屏重新活动为止(未示出)。
操作900示出了本发明实施例中监视单个应用程序的事件的方法方案。本领域内普通技术人员应当理解，移动台202可以被配置为具有多个监视器，每个监视器分别针对每个应用程序，或者具有被配置为监视新事件的所有应用程序的单一监视器。可选地，每个类型的应用程序可以具有用于监视应用程序类型的各个实例的监视器。例如，可以配置单个监视器以便监视上述实施例的三种IM应用程序，针对两种电子邮件应用程序配置另一监视器，针对电话应用程序配置另一监视器。
尽管操作910示出为等待被通知新可视修改，但是也可以采用其它开始机制。例如，向每个应用程序或其相应监视器询问新可视修改。
虽然针对新事件描述了操作900和910，但是本领域内普通技术人员应当清楚，各种修改可以并入其中，以终止新事件预览，并显示应用程序的缺省图标或其它图标。例如，参考图8，图标804示出了状态事件预览，即，Red98的签名。在预定时间段之后，此预览可以自动被终止。可以使用标准或缺省图标代替预览图标。可选地，可以使用修改的预览图标，如，指示新事件计数的修改预览图标。类似地，即使在针对相同应用程序的后续新事件发生时保持一些新事件预览也是希望的。例如，即使在新事件发生时也可以保持与相关应用程序的状态有关的新事件信息(例如，签到/签离状态、有效性等)。
本申请的上述实施仅用作示例。本领域内普通技术人员可以对具体实施例进行变更、修改和改变，而不偏离本申请的范围。在所述权利要求中描述的本发明用于覆盖和包含技术上的所有适当改变。

Claims (21)

1、一种在具有小显示器的无线通信设备上提供新事件通知的方法，所述无线通信设备具有显示在无线通信设备的显示器上的图形用户界面“GUI”，所述GUI具有主屏，所述主屏包括用于显示在无线通信设备上执行的各个应用程序的图标的应用程序部分、和用于显示无线通信设备状态信息的状态部分，所述方法包括：
在所述主屏上且在应用程序部分中提供多个应用程序图标，每个应用程序图标表示用于在所述无线设备上管理各个事件的应用程序，以及每个应用程序图标能够被调用以启动相应的应用程序，所述应用程序图标占用了所述主屏的主要部分；以及
响应于针对应用程序之一的新事件，对主屏的应用程序部分中的相应应用程序图标进行可视修改，以通知新事件；
其中，将应用程序图标连续保持在主屏上。
2、根据权利要求1所述的方法，包括：响应于可视修改的图标，调用应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序。
3、根据权利要求1所述的方法，包括监视应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序，以确定新事件的发生。
4、根据权利要求1所述的方法，还包括：
响应于新事件，确定对应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序的图标的可视修改；以及
当进行可视修改时，使用所述可视修改。
5、根据权利要求4所述的方法，其中，所述确定可视修改的步骤包括保持针对应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序的新事件的计数。
6、根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中，对应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序的图标进行可视修改包括显示新事件的内容的预览。
7、根据权利要求6所述的方法，其中，所述显示预览的动作响应于用户动作。
8、根据权利要求7所述的方法，其中，所述显示内容预览包括在主屏的部分上显示对话框。
9、根据权利要求1所述的方法，还包括：响应于应用程序部分中的、其图标已经进行了可视修改以通知新事件的一个应用程序的激活，通过所述一个应用程序自动导航到新事件。
10、根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中，所述无线设备包括数据通信设备和语音通信设备中的至少一个；以及所述多个应用程序的至少一部分管理与所述无线设备相关的通信能力，并且所述多个应用程序的所述至少一部分的所述事件包括通信事件。
11、根据权利要求1所述的方法，还包括：响应于多个新事件，对应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序的图标进行可视修改，以通知多个新事件。
12、根据权利要求1所述的方法，其中，所述对应用程序部分中的所述一个应用程序的图标进行可视修改包括显示多个新事件中每个新事件的内容的预览。
13、一种用于具有小显示器和与存储器相连的控制器的无线通信设备的图形用户界面“GUI”，所述存储器存储了用于管理各个事件的多个应用程序，针对所述应用程序提供图形用户界面“GUI”并将其显示在显示器上，所述GUI包括：
主屏，用于在显示器上进行显示，所述主屏包括应用程序部分，所述应用程序部分用于显示与所述多个应用程序中的相应应用程序相关联的多个应用程序图标，每个应用程序图标能够被调用以启动相应的应用程序，所述应用程序图标占用了所述主屏的主要部分，所述主屏还包括用于显示无线通信设备状态信息的状态部分；
至少一个监视组件，用于确定应用程序的新事件的发生；以及
至少一个图标修改组件，用于响应针对应用程序的至少一个的新事件，可视修改主屏的应用程序部分中的应用程序图标中的至少一个，以通知新事件；
其中，将应用程序图标连续保持在所述主屏中。
14、根据权利要求13所述的GUI，其中，所述GUI被配置为保持相应应用程序的新事件的计数，以及所述图标修改组件被配置为响应于所述计数进行修改。
15、根据权利要求13所述的GUI，其中，所述图标修改组件被配置为显示新事件的内容的预览。
16、根据权利要求15所述的GUI，其中，所述图标修改组件被配置为响应于与应用程序部分中的应用程序图标之一的用户交互来显示预览。
17、根据权利要求16所述的GUI，其中，所述显示预览包括在主屏的部分上显示对话框。
18、根据权利要求13所述的GUI，其中，响应于与应用程序部分中的所述应用程序图标之一的用户交互，所述GUI被配置为调用与应用程序图标之一相关联的应用程序，以显示新事件。
19、根据权利要求13所述的GUI，其中，所述无线设备包括无线数据通信设备和无线语音通信设备中的至少一个；以及所述多个应用程序的至少一部分配置来管理与所述无线设备相关的通信能力，并且所述多个应用程序的所述至少一部分的新事件包括通信事件。
20、根据权利要求13所述的GUI，其中，所述图标修改组件被配置为对应用程序部分中的应用程序图标之一进行修改，以通知多个新事件。
21、根据权利要求20所述的GUI，其中，所述图标修改组件被配置为显示所述多个新事件中的每个新事件的内容的预览。
