Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung einer neuen quaternären Ammoniumverbindung. Es wurde gefunden, dass man zu einer neuen quatemären Ammoniumverbindung gelangt, wenn man das Stearinsäure-N-me- thylamid mit Chlormethyl-,B-chloräthyläther und darauf mit Pyridin behandelt.
Die neue quaternäre Ammoniumverbin- dung stellt eine halbfeste Masse dar, die von Wasser zu einer beim Schütteln schäumen den Lösung aufgenommen wird, welche sich beim Kochen langsam zersetzt. Das neue Produkt kann als Textilhilfsstoff verwendet werden.

12 Gewichtsteile Stearinsäure-N-methyl- amid werden mit 20 Gewichtsteilen Chlor methyl-ss-chloräthyläther unter Rühren auf 90 bis<B>100'</B> erhitzt, bis die Salzsäureentwick- lung aufgehört hat. Nach 3 Stunden ist die Reaktion beendigt. Nach dem Abdestillieren des überschüssigen Äthers im Vakuum bleibt das Kondensationsprodukt als halbfeste Masse zurück. Zu dem abgekühlten Pro dukt werden 10 Volumteile Pyridin gegeben und auf dem Dampfbad erwärmt, bis eine Probe in Wasser klar löslich ist.
Nach 20 Minuten ist die Reaktion beendet. Das überschüssige Pyridin wird im Vakuum ab destilliert.
Das Umsetzungsprodukt wird als halb feste Masse erhalten, die in Wasser unter Schäumen löslich ist. Beim Kochen der wäs serigen Lösung tritt langsam Zersetzung ein.
Process for the preparation of a new quaternary ammonium compound. It has been found that a new quaternary ammonium compound is obtained if the stearic acid N-methylamide is treated with chloromethyl ether, β-chloroethyl ether and then with pyridine.
The new quaternary ammonium compound is a semi-solid mass that is absorbed by water into a solution that foams when shaken and slowly decomposes when boiled. The new product can be used as a textile auxiliary.

12 parts by weight of stearic acid N-methyl amide are heated with 20 parts by weight of chlorine methyl-ß-chloroethyl ether with stirring to 90 to 100% until the development of hydrochloric acid has ceased. The reaction has ended after 3 hours. After the excess ether has been distilled off in vacuo, the condensation product remains as a semi-solid mass. 10 parts by volume of pyridine are added to the cooled product and heated on the steam bath until a sample is clearly soluble in water.
The reaction has ended after 20 minutes. The excess pyridine is distilled off in vacuo.
The reaction product is obtained as a semi-solid mass which is soluble in water with foaming. When the aqueous solution boils, it slowly decomposes.
