Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung einer neuen quaternären Ammoniumverbindung. Es wurde gefunden, dass man zu einer neuen quaternären Ammoniumverbindung gelangt, wenn man die handelsübliche Mi schung von normalem Hexadecyl- und Octa- decylalkohol mit Chlormethyl-ss-chloräthyl- äther und darauf mit Pyridin behandelt.
Die neue quaternäre Ammoniumverbin- dung stellt eine halbfeste Masse dar, die von Wasser zu einer beim Schütteln schäumen den Lösung aufgenommen wird, welche sich beim Kochen allmählich zersetzt. Das neue Produkt kann als Textilhilfsstoff verwendet werden.
<I>Beispiel:</I> 5,4 Gewichtsteile einer handelsüblichen Mischung aus vorwiegend Octadecylalkohol und einer geringeren Menge lIexadecylalko- hol werden mit 10 Gewichtsteilen Chlor methyl-ss-chloräthyläther während 4 Stunden unter Rühren auf 90 bis<B>100'</B> erhitzt. Nach dieser Zeit hat die Entwicklung von Salz säure aufgehört.
Nachdem der überschüssige Äther im Vakuum abdestilliert ist, wird der Rückstand mit 5 Volumteilen Pyridin 10 Minuten auf dem Dampfbad erwärmt. Nach dem Abdestillieren des überschüssigen Pyr- idins hinterbleibt das Umsetzungsprodukt als halbfeste Masse, welche in Wasser unter Schäumen löslich ist. Die wässerige Lösung wird beim Kochen allmählich zersetzt.
Process for the preparation of a new quaternary ammonium compound. It has been found that a new quaternary ammonium compound is obtained if the commercially available mixture of normal hexadecyl and octadecyl alcohol is treated with chloromethyl-β-chloroethyl ether and then treated with pyridine.
The new quaternary ammonium compound is a semi-solid mass that is absorbed by water into a solution that foams when shaken and gradually decomposes when boiled. The new product can be used as a textile auxiliary.
<I> Example: </I> 5.4 parts by weight of a commercial mixture of predominantly octadecyl alcohol and a smaller amount of lexadecyl alcohol are mixed with 10 parts by weight of chlorine methyl-ß-chloroethyl ether for 4 hours while stirring to 90 to 100% / B> heated. After this time, the development of hydrochloric acid stopped.
After the excess ether has been distilled off in vacuo, the residue is heated on the steam bath with 5 parts by volume of pyridine for 10 minutes.
