Process for the preparation of a vat dye. It has been found that a new valuable vat dye can be obtained if 1 mole of 1-amino-4-halogenanthraquinone and at least 1 mole each of ammonia, formamide and benzoyl chloride are allowed to act on one another, provided that the sequence is as follows it is chosen that when the ammonia acts in the reaction mixture, a halogen-containing aromatic compound,
in the action of the formamide and the benzoyl chloride in the reaction mixture, an aromatic compound with at least one free amino group is against.
The process can be carried out in various ways, for example by converting 1-amino-4-haloanthraquinone into the 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone by treatment with ammonia, condensing this with formamide to give 4-amino-l.9-anthrapyrimidine and the latter compound treated with benzoyl chloride.
The 1-amino-4-haloanthraquinone can also be condensed first with formamide, then the 4-halo-1 formed. React 9-anthrapyrimidine with ammonia to form 4-amino-1,9-anthrapyrimidine and treat this with benzoyl chloride.
Furthermore, the 1-amino-4-haloanthraquinone can also be converted first with benzoyl chloride to 1-benzoylamino-4-halo-anthraquinone, which is converted into 1-benzoylamino-4-aminoanthraquinone by treating with ammonia and the latter compound with formamide condense.
Finally, it is also possible to first convert the 1-amino-4-haloanthraquinone into the 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone by treating it with ammonia, then partially acylate this with benzoyl chloride and the 1-amino-4-benzoylaminoanthra formed then condense quinone with formamide. The same dye is produced in all cases.
The dye obtained, the 4-benzoylamino-1. 9-anthrapyrimidine, provides a violet-tinged brown vat from which cotton and wool are dyed in green-tinged yellow shades of very good fastness.
Example Z: 860 parts of 1-amino-4-benzoylaminoanthraquinone, prepared from a 1-amino-4-halogenanthraquinone by treatment with ammonia and by partial benzylation of the 1,4-diaminoanthra that is formed quinones or by the action of benzamide, which is formed by the reaction of ammonia and benzoyl chloride,
on a 1-amino-4-halogenanthraquinone or by benzoylation of a 1 - amino - 4 - halogenanthraquinone and reaction of the resulting 1-benzoylamino-4-halogenanthraquinone with ammonia, formamide in 1250 parts with stirring for 8 hours to 180 185 C heated. After cooling, it is filtered off with suction, washed with alcohol and dried.
If necessary, the reaction product can be purified by the usual methods, for example by crystallization or treatment with oxidizing agents, for example in the form of its aqueous paste with hypochlorite solution. The reaction can be carried out in the presence of a diluent, for example phenol or nitrobenzene. Likewise, to accelerate the reaction, it is possible to use catalytically effective agents or agents which favor the elimination of water, for example boric acid, anhydrous oxalic acid, calcined soda, copper salts, etc., add.
Example 2: 247 parts of 4-amino-1. 9-anthrapyrimidine, obtainable from 1 - amino - 4 - halogenanthraquinone by treatment with formamide. and condensation of the obtainable 4-halogen-1 .9-anthrapyrimidine with ammonia or from 1-amino-4 = halogenanthraquinone by treatment with ammonia and condensation of the resulting 1. 4-diaminoanthraquinone with formamide in the presence of phenol ,
are boiled for a short time in 1000 parts of nitrobenzene after adding 100 parts of pyridine and 170 parts of benzoyl chloride. Instead of pyridine, soda can also be added as an acid-binding agent. As soon as the implementation is finished, you let it cool down and work on in the usual way.
The acylation .des 4-amino-1. 9-anthrapyrimidines with benzoyl chloride can also be carried out in nitrobenzene or in o-dichlorobenzene etc. in the absence of acid-binding agents or in the absence of a solvent.
It is also possible to proceed in such a way that a 4 - halogen - 1. 9 - anthrapyrimidine is reacted with the benzamide obtainable from ammonia and benzoyl chloride instead of successively with ammonia and benzoyl chloride.
