process for the production of an anthraquinone derivative. It has been found that a valuable anthraquinone derivative can be made using the trianthrimide of the formula
EMI0001.0008
treated with carbazolating agents.
The new anthraquinone derivative is a vat dye which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a purple color and dyes vegetable fibers from a brown vat in real black-brown tones.
The trianthrimide used as starting material for the present process can be obtained in a known manner, for example, from 1,4-dihalo-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinones by reaction with 2 moles of 1-aminoanthraquinone.
Examples of carbazolating agents are aluminum chloride and titanium tetrachloride. These funds can bezw on their own or in a mixture. Compound with salts, such as sodium chloride, tertiary aromatic. Bases such as pyridite or dimethylaniline, nitrobenzenes, ammonia, organic nitriles,
organic and inorganic acid chlorides and sulfur dioxide can be used. Insofar as hydrogen-rich compounds (hydro compounds) are formed during treatment with carbazolating agents, it is advantageous to subject the products obtained to an oxidizing treatment.
B. can be done by treating with alkali hypochlorite solution, with sodium nitrite solution in an acidic medium or with perborate solution. Example: 39.6 parts by weight of 1-benzoylamino-5.8-dichloranthraquinone, 50 parts by weight of 1-amino anthraquinone, 25 parts by weight of sodium carbonate,
2 parts by weight of copper bleach and 400 parts by weight of naphthalene. heated together men for 15 hours to the boiling point of the naphthalene. It is then cooled to about 130 and 800 parts by weight of chlorobenzene are added. The nicely crystallized reaction product is then filtered off at 50-55, washed with chlorobenzene, the presscake is subjected to steam distillation and the new compound is isolated by filtration.
It dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a green color.
In 80 parts by weight of pyridine 40 parts by weight of ground anhydrous aluminum chloride are slowly entered at 50-100. At about 100, 20 parts by weight of the tri-anthrimide from 1 mole of 1,4-dicbloro-5-benzoylaminoanthracbinone and 2 moles of 1-aminoanthrimide are now carried into this melt
anthraquinone. It is now heated to the boil for an hour and then the melt is poured onto dilute sodium hydroxide solution.
