Process for the production of a pebble pulp. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be made by treating 3,6-di- (1'-anthraquinonylamino) - diphenylene oxide with condensing agents. The dye forms a dark brown powder, which dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a brownish-violet color and dyes cotton from a red-violet vat in very pure, strong red-brown and real tones.
The 3,6-di- (1'-anthraquinonylamino) -diphenylene oxide used as the starting product for the present process can be produced as follows: 9.78 parts 3,6-dibromodiphenylene oxide, produced by dibromination of diphenylene oxide in carbon tetrachloride with the addition of some iodine and ferric chloride, 13.5 parts of 1-aminoanthraquinone, 6.0 parts of soda and 0,
8 parts of copper chloride are distributed in 40 parts of nitrobenzene and kept boiling for 14 hours. The reaction product obtained in very good yield is, after cooling, separated by filtration, washed with nitrobenzene, benzene and alcohol and boiled for purification with dilute hydrochloric acid, filtered off, washed and dried. It forms red, brown-violet needles that dissolve in concentrated sulfuric acid with an olive-yellow color and have a decomposition point above 300 .
Particularly suitable condensing agents are those which are suitable for producing ring closures, such as carbazole ring closures, such as aluminum chloride, optionally together with alkali halides, benzyl cyanides and acid chlorides.
The action of the condensing means takes place, depending on their type, at lower, middle or even greatly increased temperatures.
It is advantageous to subject the substance immediately to a treatment with oxidizing agents such as air, nitrous acid, perboric acid or hypochlorous acid.
Example: 24 parts of anhydrous aluminum chloride are mixed with 6 parts of table salt and melted while stirring at 120 '. 2 parts of the reaction product of 1 3101 3,6-dibromodiphenylene oxide and 1 mole of 1-aminoanthraquinone are now added and the mixture is stirred at 140 to 145 for 1 hour. Finally, the melt is poured out in ice, filtered off, washed out and pasted. the residue was with water.
After acidifying with dilute sulfuric acid, 0.6 parts of sodium nitrite are added and the mixture is stirred for 16 hours at 0 to 5, then filtered, washed and dried.
