Process for the production of a vat dye of the antbrachinone series. The present invention relates to a process for producing a vat dye of the anthraquinone series, which is characterized in that a product of the formula
EMI0001.0007
is treated with an anhydrous, carbazolating we kenden chloride of a trivalent metal, in the presence of a solvent for the chloride used and an oxidizing agent.
The hydrogen-rich intermediate product obtained when working with aluminum chloride is converted into the end product by treatment with an oxidizing agent, such as sodium hypochlorite. If iron chloride is used as a carbazolizing agent, there is no need for post-treatment with an oxidizing agent, since iron chloride also has an oxidizing effect. Nitrobenzene is primarily mentioned as a solvent.
The new dye is a black-brown powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a blue color and dyes the vegetable fibers in reddish brown tones from the güpe.
Example: 90 parts by weight of anthraquinone-2. 1- (N) - 1'.2 '- (N) -3'-phenoxy-6'-chlorobenzacridone [obtainable by the action of 1-chloroanthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid on 2-amino-4-chloro-diphenyl ether and treating 1- (orthophenoxy-m-chloroaniline) -anthraquinone-2.carboxylic acid with ring-closing agents], 72 parts by weight of 1-amino-5-benzoylaminoanthraquinone,
15 parts by weight of potassium carbonate, 4 parts by weight of copper acetate, 600 parts by weight of naphthalene are heated to 220 for 21s hours while stirring. The Bz-6'-anthrimide is worked up and isolated as described in the example of the main patent. The anthrimide forms blue-black needles.
For conversion into the carbazole, 160 parts by weight of the anthrimide are added at 60 to a solution of 450 parts by weight of anhydrous aluminum chloride in 1400 parts by weight of nitrobenzene with stirring. The temperature rises by itself to 850 and is held for another 1/2 hour. The solution has turned a blue-green color, a sample diluted with alcohol gives a red-violet color. Now the melt is discharged into water with a little hydrochloric acid and the nitrobenzene is blown off with steam. The dye is filtered off with suction, washed neutral, finely triturated with water and, after the addition of excess sodium hydroxide solution, oxidized with chlorine lye. Then it is suctioned off, washed and dried.
The new dye forms a black-brown powder which is insoluble in organic solvents and which dissolves easily in concentrated sulfuric acid with a blue color and dyes the vegetable fibers in deep red-tinged brown tones from the red-brown hydrosulfite vat. The dye is also very suitable for Rongalit potash printing. The dyeings are excellent in fastness to chlorine, boil and light.
