Additional patent to main patent No. 271933. Process for the production of a vat dye. It has been found that a valuable vat dye can be made using the condensation product of the formula
EMI0001.0003
in which the bromine atom occupies the same position as the bromine atom of the compound obtainable by monobromination of the condensation product of 1 mol of 5,8-dichloro-1,2-benzanthraquinone and 2 mol of 4-amino-1, 1'-dianthrimide,
treated with carbazolating agents of the aluminum chloride type.
The new dye is. a dark powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with a blissful gray-brown color - lind dyes cotton from an orange-brown vat in strong, elite gray tones.
The product of the above formula used as the starting material for the present process can be prepared, for example, from 5,8-dichloro-1,3-benzanthral aehinone and 4-amino -1,1'-di_arthrimide as follows:
6.6 parts of 5,8-dichloro-1,2-benzanthraquinone (prepared by R, ingaehluss the reaction products of naphthalene and 3,6-dichlorophthalic acid hydride with phosphorus pentoxide in o-dichlorobenzene based on Example 1 of the FP No. 332192), 17.8 parts of 4 amino-1,1'-dianthrimide, 4.4 parts of anhydrous sodium carbonate and 0.4 parts of copper acetate are mixed with 180 parts of nitrobenzene. kept boiling for 8 hours.
After cooling to 40, 6.9 parts of bromine and catalytic amounts of iodine are added and the mixture is stirred first for 14 hours at 40 to 45, then for 16 hours at 65 to 70. After it has been allowed to cool, the precipitated condensation product is filtered off, washed out and boiled with dilute hydrochloric acid. It forms a black-violet powder that dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid with an olive-green color. The bromine content. - amounts to 6.411 / o.
The treatment with carbazolizing agents of the aluminum chloride type is expediently in solvents or distributors, advantageously in the presence of tertiary bases, such as. Pyridine and pyridine homologues. Working up can be carried out in a customary manner.
In some cases it is expedient, following the carbazolation, to wrap the dye by adding and regenerating the dye by treatment with oxidizing agents, for example by blowing out with air.
Example: 5 parts of the subsequently brominated condensation product of 1 mol of 5,8-dichloro-1,2-benzanthraquinone and 21 mol of 4-amino-1,
1'-dianthrimide are introduced at 100 in a melt of 25 parts of aluminum chloride and 56 parts of dry pyridine. The temperature is now increased to 139 to 142 "while at the same time distilling off part of the pyridine, and the mixture is stirred at this temperature for one hour.
The reaction mass is then poured out in water, made alkaline with sodium hydroxide solution and vat with hydrogen sulfite. After a little residue has been filtered off, the dye is dissolved with air. blown, sanded, washed and dried.
