Definitions
- the present invention relates to a side airbag device including an inflator that supplies gas and an airbag cushion that is installed on a side portion of a vehicle seat and that can be inflated by gas from the side portion to the front of the vehicle.
- the airbag device is a safety device that operates in an emergency such as a vehicle collision, and inflates and deploys an airbag cushion with gas pressure to receive and protect an occupant.
- airbag devices There are various types of airbag devices depending on the installation location and application.
- a front airbag device is provided at the center of the steering wheel in order to protect the driver from collisions in the front-rear direction.
- a curtain airbag device is provided near the ceiling above the side window, and a side airbag device is provided on the side of the seat to protect passengers from impacts from the vehicle width direction due to side collisions, etc. It has been.
- the shape of the airbag cushion is set in consideration of the positional relationship with the occupant and surrounding structures.
- the vehicle airbag described in Patent Literature 1 includes a relatively large airbag body for a passenger seat.
- an inflation restriction tether is provided inside the airbag body in consideration of the positional relationship with the head of the occupant.
- the inflation regulation tether suppresses the inflation and the load on the occupant by pulling the base fabric of the airbag body from the inside.
- Measures are also required in the airbag cushion of the side airbag device to reduce the load on the passenger when the passenger is restrained.
- the load received by the occupant by the airbag cushion increases in proportion to the collision speed at the time of the vehicle collision.
- the internal pressure of the airbag cushion depends on the output of the inflator, which is the gas supply source, but changing the output of the inflator itself according to the collision speed is not an efficient means from the viewpoint of complexity of structure and cost. .
- the present invention provides a side airbag device capable of adjusting the internal pressure of an airbag cushion according to various conditions such as a collision speed, a collision angle, an occupant's physique, and collision energy at the time of a vehicle collision. It is intended to provide.
- a typical configuration of a side airbag device includes an inflator for supplying a gas and a side portion of a vehicle seat that can be inflated by gas from the side portion to the front of the vehicle.
- An airbag cushion a vent hole provided at a predetermined position of the airbag cushion for discharging gas, a patch covering the vent hole so that the vent hole can be opened from the inside of the airbag cushion, and a predetermined position on a side portion of the patch and the seat
- a tether that is connected and pulls the patch toward the rear of the vehicle when the airbag cushion is inflated to open the vent hole, a sensor that acquires information from the vehicle, and a tether cutter that can cut the tether according to information about the vehicle state It is characterized by providing.
- the rigidity of the airbag cushion can be adjusted in accordance with information on the state of the vehicle. For example, when using a side collision sensor or a passenger weight detection sensor built in the seat, information on the collision speed in the lateral direction and the physique of the occupant is obtained, and the tether is cut when a predetermined condition is met. can do. For example, when the collision speed in the lateral direction is low, the movement speed of the occupant in the lateral direction is also slowed down. Therefore, even if the airbag cushion is tightly inflated with a high internal pressure, the injury value for the occupant is not so high.
- a predetermined value for example, greater than or equal to a value corresponding to an adult male
- resistance to collision energy is expected to be high. Therefore, when the lateral collision speed is less than the predetermined value or the occupant's physique is higher than the predetermined value, the gas is prevented from being discharged by cutting the tether with the tether cutter and closing the vent hole. Maintain high pressure on the airbag cushion. As a result, the occupant can be sufficiently restrained.
- the collision speed in the lateral direction is high, the movement speed of the occupant in the lateral direction also increases, and the injury value of the airbag cushion to the occupant tends to increase.
- a predetermined value for example, less than a value corresponding to an adult male
- resistance to collision energy is expected to be low. Therefore, when the collision speed is equal to or higher than the predetermined value or the occupant's physique is lower than the predetermined value, the tether cutter is not moved and the vent hole is opened by pulling the patch with the tether. Drain and suppress the internal pressure of the cushion of the airbag cushion. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress the injury value of an occupant when restraining an occupant having a high moving speed or a small occupant.
- the side airbag device may further include a sewing portion that connects at least portions on both sides of the airbag cushion with the vent hole interposed therebetween and the patch by sewing.
- This sewing part may be provided in the shape of a line parallel to both side portions sandwiching the vent hole.

- the gas can be suitably discharged also by the vent holes having these configurations.
- the midway part of the tether in the longitudinal direction may be connected to the patch, and the front end of the tether may be connected to the inside of the airbag cushion further in front of the vehicle than the vent hole. Also with this configuration, the vent hole can be suitably opened by pulling the patch with a tether.
- the above tether may be connected to the patch at the center of the vent hole.
- the patch can be suitably pulled also by the tether having this configuration.
- the edge of the airbag cushion may be sewn by an outer periphery sewing portion that stitches together the base fabric, and one end of the patch and one end of the tether may be sewn together to the outer periphery sewing portion.
- This configuration allows the patch and tether to be simply connected to the airbag cushion.
- the tether can also limit the expansion of the cushion in the vehicle front-rear direction, and can increase the occupant restraint force by expanding the cushion thicker in the vehicle width direction.
- the above-mentioned patch may have a slit extending in a direction crossing the longitudinal direction of the tether.
- the gas can also be suitably discharged by opening the slit.
- the tether may pass through the patch in the vehicle front-rear direction through the slit. With this configuration, the slit can be preferably opened.
- the inflator is provided on the vehicle rear side inside the airbag cushion, and the side airbag device is further installed to surround the inflator with a base fabric inside the airbag cushion; and An inner vent that is provided on the vehicle front side of the inner bag and through which gas can pass, and the tether may be connected to the patch and a predetermined portion of the side portion of the seat through the inner vent.
- the inner bag since the inner bag takes the initiative in receiving the gas supplied from the inflator, it is possible to avoid a sudden increase in the rigidity of the portion in contact with the occupant.
- the inner vent may be provided on a route that connects the patch and a predetermined portion of the side of the seat with a straight line. With this configuration, the tether can be transferred over the shortest distance.
- a side airbag device capable of adjusting the internal pressure of the airbag cushion according to the collision speed at the time of a vehicle collision.
- FIG. 1 is a diagram illustrating a side airbag device 100 according to the first embodiment of the present invention.
- FIG. 1A illustrates a side airbag device 100 and a seat 102 to which the side airbag device 100 is applied from the left side in the vehicle width direction.
- the vehicle front-rear direction is indicated by arrows F (Forward) and B (Back)
- the vehicle width direction is indicated by arrows L (Left), R (Right), and the vehicle vertical direction, respectively.
- arrows U (up) and D (down) are illustrated by arrows U (up) and D (down), respectively.
- the side airbag device 100 has a configuration in which an airbag cushion (cushion 104) is inflated and deployed from the inside of the seat back 108 of the seat 102.
- the cushion 104 is a part that restrains an occupant in an emergency.
- the cushion 104 is wound or folded around a side portion of the seat back 108 in the vehicle width direction before operation. And if the impact of a vehicle is detected, it will expand and expand using gas from the side part ahead of a vehicle.
- the cushion 104 is provided on the left side of the seat back 108, but may be provided on the right side. That is, the cushion 104 can be installed on either the door side (near side) of the seat back 108 or the vehicle inner side (far side).
- the cushion 104 has a flat shape as a whole.
- the outer surface of the cushion 104 is constituted by a main panel 106 (a main panel 106a on the left side in the vehicle width direction and a main panel 106b on the right side).
- the main panel 106 is made of a base fabric and is formed into a bag shape as a whole by sewing or bonding.
- the cushion 104 can also be formed by weaving using OPW (One-Piece Woven).
- An inflator 110 is attached to the rear side of the vehicle inside the cushion 104.
- the inflator 110 is a gas generator, and a cylinder type (cylindrical type) is adopted in the present embodiment.
- the inflator is electrically connected to the vehicle side, operates in response to a signal resulting from impact detection from the vehicle side, and supplies gas to the cushion 104.
- the inflator 110 is provided with a stud bolt 112 that is fastened to the seat back 108.
- the stud 104 is attached to the seat back 108 by the stud bolt 112 passing through the cushion 104 and being fastened to the seat back 108.
- Inflators that are in widespread use are filled with a gas generating agent and burned to generate gas, filled with compressed gas and supplied with gas without generating heat, or burned There are hybrid types that use both gas and compressed gas. Any type of inflator 110 can be used.
- a vent hole 116 is provided slightly below the edge of the cushion 104 on the vehicle front side.
- the vent hole 116 discharges the gas supplied from the inflator 110 from the inside of the cushion 104.
- the internal pressure of the cushion 104 is adjusted according to the collision speed at the time of the vehicle collision and the physique of the occupant. For example, when the collision speed in the lateral direction at the time of a side collision is high, the movement speed of the occupant in the lateral direction also increases, and the load on the occupant when the occupant is restrained by the cushion 104 tends to increase. Similarly, small occupants are expected to be less resistant to collision energy.
- the gas is discharged from the vent hole 116 when a predetermined condition is met, such as when the lateral collision speed is equal to or higher than a predetermined value or when the occupant's physique is lower than the predetermined value.
- a predetermined condition such as when the lateral collision speed is equal to or higher than a predetermined value or when the occupant's physique is lower than the predetermined value.
- FIG. 2 is a diagram illustrating each cushion 104 of FIG. 1 from each direction.
- FIG. 2A is a diagram illustrating the cushion 104 while passing through the inside from the left side in the vehicle width direction.
- an inner bag 118 is provided inside the cushion 104.
- the inner bag 118 surrounds the inflator 110 inside the cushion 104 and is a part that first receives gas from the inflator 110. Since the inner bag 118 receives the gas supplied from the inflator 110 before the main panel 106, it is possible to avoid a sudden increase in the rigidity of the main panel 106 that contacts the occupant.
- the inner bag 118 is provided in a bag shape including the inflator 110.
- the inner bag 118 is folded into a bag shape in accordance with the shape of the cushion 104 on the vehicle rear side, and a part of the inner bag 118 is overlapped on the outer periphery of the main panels 106a and 106b (see FIG. 1) and sewn together. It can also be provided.
- the inner bag 118 is provided with two openings, an inner vent 120a in the upper part of the vehicle front side and an inner vent 120b in the lower part, as parts for supplying gas to the vehicle front side of the cushion 104.
- the gas supplied from the inflator 110 flows through the inner vents 120a and 120b toward the front side of the vehicle.
- the inner bag 118 first receives the gas from the inflator 110 and then the gas is supplied from the inner bag 118 to the entire cushion 104.
- a patch 122 is provided inside the vent hole 116.
- the patch 122 covers the vent hole 116 so as to be openable from the inside of the cushion 104.
- the patch 122 uses the same base fabric as the main panel 106, for example, and both sides in the vehicle width direction sandwiching the vent hole 116 in the cushion 104 by linear sewing portions 124a and 124b (see FIG. 2B). It can be provided by connecting to this part. For example, by providing the sewing portions 124 a and 124 b in parallel on both sides of the vent hole 116, the left and right edges 122 a and 122 b of the patch 122 are connected to the cushion 104, and the upper and lower edges 122 c and 122 d of the patch 122 are connected to the cushion 104. Since the separation is possible, the openable and closable patch 122 can be suitably realized.
- the string 122 is connected to the patch 122.
- the tether 126 is a part that opens the vent hole 116 by pulling the patch 122 according to the detection result of the sensor 132 when the cushion 104 is inflated and deployed.
- the tether 1264 passes through the inner bag 118 through the inner vent 120b and is connected to the tether cutter 128 on the vehicle rear side.
- the inner vent 120b is provided on a path connecting the patch 122 and the tether cutter 128 with a straight line so that the tether 126 can be passed over the patch 122 and the tether cutter 128 with a straight line having the shortest distance.
- the tether cutter 128 is a small and cylindrical cutter, and is installed together with the cushion 104 or the like at a predetermined position on the side of the seat 102 (see FIG. 1). Inside the tether cutter 128, a cylinder having a blade (not shown) and a micro gas generator (not shown) are arranged. The tether cutter 128 is electrically connected to the vehicle-side power source, the sensor 132, and the like through the connector 130, and the blade moves according to the detection result of the sensor 132. The tether 126 is passed through a hole (not shown) of the tether cutter 128 and is connected to the tether cutter 128 in a state where it can be cut by the tether cutter 128.
- Sensor 132 is installed in various places of the vehicle, measures and detects the state of the vehicle, and acquires various information from the vehicle.
- the sensor 132 for example, a side collision sensor that is installed on the side of the vehicle and detects the collision speed in the lateral direction of the vehicle, or a front collision that is installed in the front of the vehicle and detects the collision speed in the front-rear direction of the vehicle.
- Various sensors such as a sensor for detecting a weight and a physique of an occupant installed on a seat can be used.
- the control unit 134 processes each piece of information regarding the state of the vehicle acquired through the sensor 132, and controls the movement of the tether cutter 128 according to a predetermined condition (for example, whether the lateral collision speed is equal to or higher than a predetermined value).
- the control unit 134 can also process and use the detection results of a plurality of sensors in a composite manner, whereby various information such as a collision speed, a collision angle, a collision energy, and an occupant's physique at the time of a vehicle collision can be obtained. It is possible to calculate and determine whether or not to send a movable signal to the tether cutter 128 under these conditions.
- FIG. 2 (b) is a cross-sectional view taken along the line AA of the cushion 104 in FIG. 2 (a).
- FIG. 2B shows the cushion 104 after the inflator 110 is moved.
- the control unit 134 does not move the tether cutter 128 when it is predicted that the injury value of the occupant will increase during restraint.
- the patch 122 is pulled to the vehicle rear side by the tether 126, the gap between the patch 122 and the vent hole 116 is opened, and gas is discharged from the vent hole 116.
- the internal pressure of the cushion 104 is suppressed, and the rigidity of the main panel 106 is also reduced. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the load applied to the occupant in contact with the main panel 106.
- the tether 126 is connected to the patch 122 at the center of the vent hole 116 so that the vent hole 116 and the patch 122 can be efficiently separated.
- the tether 126 has a length L1 that is shorter than the distance L2 from the vent hole 116 to the tether cutter 128 when the cushion 104 is inflated and deployed (L1> L2). With the tether 126 of this length L1, the patch 122 can be suitably pulled to open the vent hole.
- FIG. 2C exemplifies the state of the cushion 104 when the injury value of the occupant is expected to be low when restrained, unlike FIG. 2B.
- an operation signal is transmitted to the tether cutter 128 from the control unit 134 (see FIG. 2A) through the connector 130, the blade is moved, and the tether 126 is cut.
- the patch 122 covers the vent hole 116 so as to stick with the pressure of the gas, and keeps the vent hole 116 closed to prevent the gas from being discharged from the cushion 104.
- the pressure of the cushion 104 is kept high. Therefore, the cushion 104 can sufficiently restrain the occupant with a high internal pressure.
- control unit 134 can control the tether cutter 128 based on information on the vehicle state such as the collision speed and the occupant's physique acquired from the sensor 132.
- the control unit 134 may control the tether cutter 128 on the condition of the collision speed. If the collision speed of the vehicle in the lateral direction is high at the time of a side collision or the like, the movement speed of the occupant in the lateral direction also increases, and the injury value may increase when restrained by the cushion 104. Therefore, the control unit 134 may determine not to transmit a movable signal to the tether cutter 128 when the collision speed acquired from the side collision sensor is equal to or higher than a predetermined threshold (eg, 30 km / h). As a result, as illustrated in FIG. 2B, the patch 122 is pulled by the tether 126, the gas is discharged from the vent hole 116, and the internal pressure of the cushion 104 is lowered.
- a predetermined threshold eg, 30 km / h
- the control unit 134 determines to transmit a movable signal to the tether cutter 128. As a result, as illustrated in FIG. 2C, the tether 126 is cut and the vent hole 116 is closed by the patch 122, and the internal pressure of the cushion 104 is kept high.
- control unit 134 may control the tether cutter 128 on the condition of the occupant's physique.
- the control unit 134 determines not to transmit a movable signal to the tether cutter 128 when the information related to the occupant's physique acquired from the seat weight detection sensor is less than a predetermined threshold (eg, an adult male physique). May be.
- a predetermined threshold eg, an adult male physique
- the control unit 134 determines to transmit a movable signal to the tether cutter 128.
- the tether 126 is cut and the vent hole 116 is closed by the patch 122, and the internal pressure of the cushion 104 is kept high.
- a test dummy doll AM50 simulating a physique that fits 50% of the average American adult male (equivalent to 50th percentile male, height 175cm, weight 78kg) can be used as a threshold value.
- control unit 134 can also control the tether cutter 128 by changing the threshold according to the physique of the occupant. Even at the same collision speed, the injury value fluctuates if the occupant's physique is different. Therefore, for example, if the control unit 134 determines that the occupant's physique is equivalent to an adult male, the control unit 134 considers that the resistance to impact energy is high, raises the threshold of the collision speed, and the cushion 104 even if the collision speed is high. The tether cutter 128 may be moved so that the internal pressure can be kept high.
- control unit 134 determines that the occupant's physique corresponds to a small woman, the control unit 134 considers that the resistance to impact energy is low, lowers the threshold of the collision speed, and the cushion 104 even if the collision speed is slow.
- the tether cutter 128 may not be moved so that the internal pressure is suppressed to a low level.
- a collision angle an object entry angle with respect to the vehicle front-rear direction
- a front collision sensor another collision detection sensor, or the like.
- the collision actually applied to the occupant simply by measuring the collision speed only in the front-rear direction or the lateral direction A value smaller than the speed may be obtained.
- a relatively high value is set even if the threshold value is the same as in the case of a front collision or a side collision. Therefore, by acquiring the collision angle as described above and calculating the collision speed applied to the occupant, the tether cutter 128 can be controlled in accordance with the actual collision speed with high accuracy.
- the presence or absence of gas discharge is selected according to various conditions such as the collision speed at the time of vehicle collision, the collision angle, the occupant's physique, and the collision energy.
- the internal pressure of the cushion 104 can be adjusted. As a result, the occupant can be restrained efficiently without increasing the injury value of the occupant.
- FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating a side airbag device 200 according to the second embodiment of the present invention.

Accordingly, the tether 206 can suitably open the vent hole 202 by pulling the patch 204 toward the center side of the cushion 104.
- the outer periphery sewing portion 105 is an edge around the cushion 104 when the cushion 104 is viewed from the vehicle width direction (see FIG. 3A), and sews the main panels 106a and 106b in the vehicle width direction. It is a part.
- the patch 204 and the tether 206 are sewn together with the outer periphery sewing portion 105. It can be simply connected to the cushion 104.
- the tether 206 Since the tether 206 is stretched over the outer periphery sewing portion 105 which is the front end of the cushion 104 and the tether cutter 128 on the rear side of the vehicle, the tether 206 restricts the expansion of the cushion 104 in the vehicle front-rear direction, and the cushion 104 is It can be expanded thicker in the width direction. Therefore, it is possible to increase the occupant restraining force with respect to the occupant coming into contact with the vehicle in the vehicle width direction and more appropriately catch the occupant.
- FIG. 3C illustrates the state of the cushion 104 when the injury value of the occupant is expected to be low when restrained, unlike FIG. 3B.
- the tether cutter 128 operates and the tether 206 is cut.
- the patch 204 covers the vent hole 202 so as to stick to the gas pressure, and keeps the vent hole 202 closed to prevent the gas from being discharged from the cushion 104.
- the pressure of the cushion 104 is kept high. Therefore, the cushion 104 can sufficiently restrain the occupant with a high internal pressure.
- the side airbag device 200 also selects the presence or absence of gas discharge according to various conditions such as the collision speed, the collision angle, the occupant's physique, and the collision energy at the time of the vehicle collision. It is possible to adjust the internal pressure. As a result, the occupant can be restrained efficiently without increasing the injury value of the occupant.
- FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating a side airbag device 300 according to the third embodiment of the present invention.
- the side airbag device 300 is different from the side airbag device 200 illustrated in FIG. 3 in that a slit 304 is provided in the patch 302.
- the slit 304 is provided as a cut extending in the vertical direction, that is, in a direction intersecting with the longitudinal direction of the tether 306, between the vent hole 202 and the sewn portion 124 a on the side.
- FIG. 4B is a cross-sectional view taken along the line CC of the cushion 104 in FIG.
- FIG. 4B illustrates the state after the inflator 110 is moved, and illustrates a case where the injury value of the occupant is expected to increase during restraint. In that case, the tether cutter 128 does not move, the patch 302 is pulled by the tether 306, and the vent hole 202 is opened.
- the tether 306 has substantially the same configuration as the tether 206 of FIG. 3B, but passes through the patch 302 in the vehicle front-rear direction through the slit 304, and a middle portion in the longitudinal direction is sewn to the outside of the patch 302. It is connected.
- the front end 308 of the tether 306 is sewn together with the patch 302 to the outer peripheral sewing portion 105 on the vehicle front side of the vent hole 202.
- the length L5 of the tether 306 is also a length L4 from the front end (the outer periphery sewing portion 105) of the cushion 104 to the tether cutter 128 when the cushion 104 is inflated and deployed (see FIG. 4 (c)), or a length shorter than that.
- the tether 306 is tensioned in the vehicle front-rear direction at the center of the cushion 104 in the vehicle width direction as the cushion 104 expands and deploys.
- the tether 306 passes through the outside of the patch 302 through the slit 304, the front side of the vehicle moves from the slit 304 of the patch 302 to the center side in the vehicle width direction of the cushion 104 together with the tether 306 when the tether 306 is tensioned. .
- gas passes through the slit 304 and is led to the vent hole 202 and efficiently discharged.
- the internal pressure of the cushion 104 is further suppressed, the rigidity of the main panel 106 is further reduced, and even when an occupant with a high moving speed contacts the main panel 106, the load received by the occupant can be efficiently suppressed.
- FIG. 4C illustrates the state of the cushion 104 when the injury value of the occupant is expected to be low when restrained, unlike FIG. 4B.
- the tether cutter 128 operates and the tether 306 is cut.
- the patch 302 covers the vent hole 202 by the pressure of the gas, and keeps the vent hole 202 closed to prevent the gas from being discharged from the cushion 104.
- the pressure of the cushion 104 is kept high. Therefore, the cushion 104 can sufficiently restrain the occupant with a high internal pressure.
- the side airbag device 300 also selects the presence or absence of gas discharge according to various conditions such as the collision speed at the time of vehicle collision, the collision angle, the occupant's physique, and the collision energy. It is possible to adjust the internal pressure.
- the slits 304 are provided in the patch 302, so that the gas can be discharged more efficiently. As a result, the occupant can be restrained efficiently without increasing the injury value of the occupant.
- FIG. 5 is a diagram illustrating a modification of the sewing portions 124a and 124b shown in FIG.
- the sewing parts 400a and 400b illustrated in FIG. 5 are different from the sewing parts 124a and 124b in FIG.
- the sewing portions 400a and 400b connect portions of the cushion 104 on both sides in the vertical direction of the vehicle across the vent hole 116 and the patch 122 by sewing.
