- vanadium electrolyte solution is an aqueous sulfuric acid solution containing vanadium ions in the range of more than 1.7 mol / L and less than 3.5 mol / L. is there.
- the vanadium electrolyte is used as a vanadium electrolyte for the anode.
- the vanadium electrolyte is Used as a vanadium electrolyte for cathode.

Further, as described in the explanation section of the method for producing a high-concentration vanadium electrolyte described later, the vanadium electrolyte does not generate precipitates during preparation.
- Such a high-concentration vanadium electrolyte is an electrolyte containing vanadium ions in a range exceeding 1.7 mol / L, which is higher than the limit of solubility of the vanadium oxide sulfate in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution, and not more than 3.5 mol / L.
- Such an electrolyte solution with a high vanadium ion concentration has been conventionally described in terms of the prior art documents, and has not been actually prepared and does not exist on the market.
- the high-concentration vanadium electrolyte solution according to the present invention does not precipitate when the vanadium salt is supersaturated during preparation as in the prior art, and can further suppress the generation of sludge such as vanadium oxide that is likely to occur due to an oxidation reaction during charging. Therefore, it is preferably used as an electrolytic solution for the anode.

- the vanadium ion concentration in the vanadium electrolyte is in the range of more than 1.7 mol / L and not more than 3.5 mol / L.
- a vanadium electrolytic solution having a vanadium ion concentration within this range is a high concentration vanadium electrolytic solution having a high energy density and good charge / discharge efficiency.
- the high-concentration vanadium electrolytic solution according to the present invention does not precipitate a vanadium salt at the time of its preparation even at such a high vanadium ion concentration.
- the vanadium electrolyte When the vanadium ion concentration is 1.7 mol / L or less, the vanadium electrolyte has a sufficiently high energy density and a sufficiently high current density at the time of discharge compared to the high concentration vanadium electrolyte according to the present invention. Further, a vanadium electrolytic solution having a vanadium ion concentration exceeding 3.5 mol / L is likely to become the limit of supersaturation even in the method for producing a high-concentration vanadium electrolytic solution according to the present invention described later, and is difficult to produce.
- vanadium ion concentration is in the range of 2.5 mol / L or more and 3.5 mol / L or less.
- a vanadium electrolyte with a vanadium ion concentration within this range can supply a sufficient amount of ions to the electrode, so the energy density is remarkably high, and it is used as an electrolyte for circulating flow batteries and for non-circulating non-flow batteries. It can be particularly preferably used as an electrolytic solution.
- the vanadium ion concentration in the vanadium electrolyte can be determined from the results obtained by X-ray fluorescence analysis, ion chromatography, ICP mass spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, and the like.
- the sulfuric acid concentration is preferably in the range of 0.5 mol / L or more and 4 mol / L or less. Whether the sulfuric acid concentration is adjusted to any of the above ranges takes into consideration the electrical conductivity, viscosity, stability, vanadium ion concentration, vanadium salt solubility, and the like of the vanadium electrolyte. By setting the sulfuric acid concentration within this range, the electrical conductivity of the vanadium electrolyte can be increased, and the charge / discharge efficiency can be increased.
- the sulfuric acid concentration is less than 0.5 mol / L, the electrical conductivity cannot be sufficiently increased, and the solubility of vanadium oxide sulfate hydrate may be insufficient.

- generation of sludge can be further suppressed by setting the dissolved oxygen concentration to 1 ppm or less, particularly 0.5 ppm or less.
- the vanadium electrolyte containing dissolved oxygen in this range generates sludge such as vanadium peroxide and vanadium oxide in any of the pre-electrolysis step, electrolysis step, and secondary battery charge / discharge described later. And there is an advantage that problems such as reduction in current efficiency due to an oxidation reaction by dissolved oxygen hardly occur.
- sludge derived from the dissolved oxygen is likely to occur.
- Such sludge is likely to occur especially during oxidation electrolysis of vanadium electrolyte, during charge electrolysis, and during charging / discharging of the secondary battery.
- current efficiency is easily lowered due to the oxidation reaction by dissolved oxygen on the cathode side, and the balance between the oxidation-reduction reaction of the anode and the cathode is lost, and sludge is easily generated.

- the vanadium electrolyte may contain impurities contained in the vanadium salt used at the time of preparing the solution.
- impurities can include one or more elements of aluminum, calcium, sodium, potassium, iron, silicon and chromium.
- the content of such impurities is preferably small from the viewpoint of suppressing generation of sludge and the like, for example, preferably less than 0.4% by mass in total.
- trace amounts for example, about 0.05 mass% or less) of inevitable impurities other than these may be contained.
- the total content of impurity elements is less than 0.4% by mass, prevent generation of sludge derived from the impurities even when charging and discharging are repeated using a vanadium electrolyte solution for a secondary battery. Can do.

- a large amount of vanadium salt for preparing a high vanadium ion concentration of more than 1.7 mol / L and not more than 3.5 mol / L can be dissolved without reaching the solubility limit in water.
- the upper limit of the solubility limit of the vanadium salt in the sulfuric acid aqueous solution was an amount for preparing a vanadium ion concentration of 1.7 mol / L or less. Therefore, a vanadium salt for achieving a vanadium ion concentration exceeding 1.7 mol / L could not be dissolved in an aqueous sulfuric acid solution.
- the first solution dissolved in the dissolution tank is a solution in which the entire amount of vanadium salt is dissolved in tailored water, and is prepared to have a liquid volume smaller than the target liquid volume.
- the color of this aqueous solution was a clear dark blue.
- the pure water storage tank includes a nitrogen bubbling means (reference NB1) and a nitrogen purge means (reference NP1).
- the nitrogen purge means is a means for escaping nitrogen gas in the tank at atmospheric pressure or slightly pressurized (about 1.2 atmospheres). Note that other inert gas such as argon may be used instead of nitrogen.
- the dissolution tank includes a stirring device, a vanadium salt inlet, a nitrogen purge means (NP2), and the like, and may include a nitrogen bubbling means as necessary.
- the first solution prepared in the dissolution tank is fed with the first solution for the anode and the first solution for the cathode, respectively, to the anodic dissolution aging tank and the catholyte aging tank.
- the first solution is degassed to a desired dissolved oxygen concentration, and the degassed first solution is sent to the anode electrolytic cell for preparing the second solution.
- the anodic dissolution aging tank and the cathode dissolution aging tank are provided with nitrogen bubbling means (NB2, NB3), nitrogen purge means (NP3, NP4) and the like.
- the second solution preparation step is a step of preparing the second solution by adding sulfuric acid to the first solution while pre-electrolyzing the first solution. Even if the second solution obtained in this step is a sulfuric acid aqueous solution containing vanadium ions having a high concentration of more than 1.7 mol / L and not more than 3.5 mol / L, no precipitate of vanadium salt is generated. is there. On the other hand, when sulfuric acid was gradually added without pre-electrolyzing the first solution, vanadium oxide sulfate, which was a vanadium salt dissolved in water, was deposited. The reason for this is not clear at the present time, but it is thought to be due to the solubility limit of the vanadium salt in the sulfuric acid aqueous solution added with sulfuric acid.
- Pre-electrolysis is performed on both the first solution for the anode and the first solution for the cathode.
- the pre-electrolysis is performed while the first solution for the anode sent from the anodic dissolution aging tank to the anodic electrolysis tank is circulated between the anodic electrolysis tank and the first electrolysis stack. .
- the 1st solution for cathodes sent to the cathode electrolytic cell from the cathode dissolution aging tank circulates between the cathode electrolytic cell and the 2nd electrolytic stack.
- the anode electrolytic cell and the cathode electrolytic cell are equipped with a stirrer, a sulfuric acid inlet, nitrogen purge means (NP5, NP6), etc., and nitrogen bubbling means as necessary. Also good.
- sensors such as an electrode potential measuring device (ORP) and a pH sensor are provided.
- the electrode potential measuring device measures the electrode potential of the first electrolytic stack and the second electrolytic stack at regular time intervals or in real time, and measures whether or not a predetermined potential for adding sulfuric acid has been reached.
- This electrode potential measuring device is a measuring device for measuring a silver-silver chloride electrode as a reference electrode.
- the first electrolytic stack is a stack in which a plurality of single cells for oxidizing and electrolyzing the first solution for the anode are stacked.
- the first solution for the anode circulating between the anode electrolytic cell and the first electrolytic stack is circulated so as to enter from one end of the first electrolytic stack in which the single cells are overlapped and exit from the other end.
- reduction electrolysis is performed simultaneously.
- the reduction electrolysis may be a first solution for a cathode (see FIG. 2), or an electrolysis solution such as sulfuric acid or sodium sulfate (illustrated). Not).
- This electrolytic solution is circulated so as to enter from the other end of the first electrolytic stack in which the single cells are overlaid and exit from one end.
- the reduction electrolysis in the first electrolytic stack is performed with the first solution for the cathode
- the reduction electrolysis of the first solution for the cathode can be performed simultaneously with the oxidation electrolysis of the first solution for the anode. preferable.
- the second electrolytic stack is a stack in which a plurality of single cells for reducing and electrolyzing the first solution for the cathode are stacked.
- the first solution for the cathode that circulates between the cathode electrolytic cell and the second electrolysis stack circulates so as to enter from one end of the second electrolysis stack in which the single cells are superimposed and exit from the other end.
- oxidation electrolysis is simultaneously performed.
- the oxidation electrolysis is an electrolytic solution such as sulfuric acid or sodium sulfate as shown in FIG. This electrolytic solution is circulated so as to enter from the other end of the second electrolytic stack in which the single cells are overlaid and exit from one end.
- the reduction electrolysis in the second electrolysis stack and the reduction electrolysis in the first electrolysis stack may be performed simultaneously.
- the amount of electricity for performing monovalent oxidation from tetravalent to pentavalent in the first electrolytic stack and the amount of electricity for performing monovalent reduction from tetravalent to trivalent in the second electrolytic stack at the same time. Will be applied. Therefore, the first solution for the cathode is applied with an amount of electricity that can be reduced from tetravalent to divalent, and at the same time the tetravalent vanadium ions can be oxidized to pentavalent vanadium ions by the first electrolytic stack. It is also possible to reduce tetravalent vanadium ions to divalent vanadium ions by the first electrolytic stack and the second electrolytic stack.
- Pre-electrolysis is applied to each of the first solution in the anode electrolytic cell and the first solution in the cathode electrolytic cell before adding sulfuric acid.
- the pre-electrolysis may be constant-current electrolysis or constant-voltage electrolysis, but usually constant-current electrolysis is preferably applied.
- constant current electrolysis it is preferably in the range of 1 mA / cm 2 or more and 5 mA / cm 2 or less, and more preferably in the range of 2 mA / cm 2 or more and 4 mA / cm 2 or less.
- the current value detected by the ammeter is within the range of 1 mA / cm 2 or more and 5 mA / cm 2 or less, preferably 2 mA / cm 2 or more and preferably 4 mA / cm 2 or less.
- the voltage is preferably adjusted to be within the range.
- the current value in constant current electrolysis or the voltage value in constant voltage electrolysis may be a constant (one stage) current value or voltage value while adding sulfuric acid, or a current value or voltage of two or more stages. It may be a value. Moreover, constant current electrolysis and constant voltage electrolysis may be performed alternately. When constant current electrolysis or constant voltage electrolysis is two or more stages, it may be applied stepwise so that it gradually increases within the above range, but the constant current value or constant voltage value may be increased or decreased. There is no particular limitation.
- the electrode potential at which sulfuric acid starts to be added is a range where the electrode potential during oxidation electrolysis (reference electrode: silver-silver chloride electrode, the same applies in the present application) is 800 mV or more and 950 mV or less when preparing a vanadium electrolyte solution for the anode. It is preferable to be within.
- the precipitate at this time is vanadium oxide sulfate which is easily precipitated by supersaturation, and the sludge is vanadium peroxide or vanadium oxide which is easily generated by oxidation electrolysis.
- the preferable charging start potential of sulfuric acid in the range of 800 mV or more and 950 mV or less varies slightly depending on the vanadium ion concentration or the like and is not particularly limited.
- the timing of starting the addition of sulfuric acid can be based on the state of the first solution. For example, in the process of pre-electrolyzing the first solution for the blue anode, it is preferable to start adding sulfuric acid at the timing when the black paste-like suspended matter is slightly generated in the first solution.
- the timing at which the suspended matter is generated is about 815 mV at a vanadium ion concentration of 2.5 mol / L, for example, and is about 900 mV at a vanadium ion concentration of 3.5 mol / L, for example.
- the suspended matter disappears by adding sulfuric acid.
- the input amount is not particularly limited because it varies depending on the final sulfuric acid concentration, but it is preferable that the total amount of sulfuric acid input can be divided into several to several tens of times and used as the input amount per time. For example, when 200 mL of sulfuric acid (concentrated sulfuric acid) is added 10 times, it is preferable to add 20 mL, for example, every 5 minutes over 50 minutes. A predetermined amount of charging interval is also arbitrary. Further, it may be continuously added in small amounts.
- the temperature of the solution does not become too high during the addition of sulfuric acid.
- the temperature of the solution is preferably about 35 ° C. or lower.
- rapid oxidation can be prevented and sludge generation or the like can be suppressed.
- the amount of sulfuric acid added is increased rapidly, heat is generated, the temperature of the solution increases locally (for example, 50 ° C. or more), and sludge composed of vanadium oxide or the like may be generated. The generated sludge does not dissolve thereafter, and the electrolytic solution cannot be used.
- the sulfuric acid is concentrated sulfuric acid, or an aqueous sulfuric acid solution diluted with water as necessary is prepared.
- an aqueous sulfuric acid solution diluted with water as necessary is prepared.
- the first solution is 80% of the target liquid volume
- sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid aqueous solution of about 10 to 25% of the target liquid volume is prepared, and the first solution is stirred and pre-electrolyzed. While adding sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid aqueous solution little by little to the first solution. A second solution is thus prepared.
- the prepared sulfuric acid or sulfuric acid aqueous solution is deaerated beforehand, and removes dissolved oxygen as much as possible.
- the end of the addition of sulfuric acid started to be input within the range of 800 mV to 950 mV is usually an electrode potential of about 1000 mV (based on silver-silver chloride electrode), but is not particularly limited to this potential.
- the second solution for the anode after adding sulfuric acid was yellow.
- the second solution is obtained by finishing the addition of sulfuric acid started at a predetermined potential while pre-electrolyzing the first solution.
- This second solution can subsequently be charged.
- the second solution for anode can be charged to 1200 mV to 1250 mV (silver-silver chloride electrode standard) and oxidized to pentavalent vanadium ions
- the second solution for cathode can be -400 mV to -300 mV (silver-chloride). It can be charged to silver electrode reference) and oxidized to divalent vanadium ions.
- the current density of the same level as the current density applied during pre-electrolysis is applied as it is.
- the initial charge (initial charge) of the vanadium electrolyte can be performed in a state where generation of sludge and the like is suppressed.
- the vanadium electrolyte solution after being fully charged once can suppress the generation of sludge even if it is charged at a remarkably high current density.
- Such a current density is in the range of 10 mA / cm 2 to 80 mA / cm 2 , and preferably in the range of 20 mA / cm 2 to 70 mA / cm 2 .
- a second solution that is a high-concentration vanadium ion solution can be prepared without generating precipitates.
- the obtained second solution can be charged at a high current density without generating sludge.
- Pre-electrolysis of vanadium electrolyte for cathode When preparing the vanadium electrolyte solution for the cathode (second solution for the cathode), it is preferable to pre-electrolyze the first solution.
- sulfuric acid may be added to the first solution while pre-electrolyzing the first solution for the cathode.
- the first solution for the anode described above is pre-electrolyzed. Not as strict as you do. This is because the generation of precipitates that affect the electrode potential and the generation of sludge are less likely to occur than in the first solution for the anode.
- the pre-electrolysis of the first solution for the cathode is conveniently performed simultaneously with the pre-electrolysis of the first solution for the anode by the first electrolysis stack and the second electrolysis stack.
- the electrode potential at the time of pre-electrolysis of the first solution for the cathode is not particularly limited, but it is usually preferably within the range of 200 mV to -200 mV.
- a second solution for a cathode containing vanadium ions in the range of more than 1.7 mol / L and less than 3.5 mol / L, which is higher than the limit of solubility of vanadium oxide sulfate in sulfuric acid aqueous solution is obtained.
- the additive for suppressing the generation of precipitates or sludge may be added to the first solution or may be added to the second solution.
- the first solution and the second solution are preferably prepared while applying a means for removing dissolved oxygen as much as possible.
- the prepared second solution for anode is transferred to the anolyte aging tank shown in FIG. 2, and the second solution for cathode is transferred to the catholyte aging tank shown in FIG.
- the second solution is deaerated to a desired dissolved oxygen concentration as necessary, and an anolyte adjustment tank for preparing a final vanadium electrolyte solution as necessary. (See FIG. 2) and the catholyte adjustment tank (see FIG. 2).
- the anolyte aging tank and catholyte aging tank are provided with nitrogen bubbling means (NB4, NB5), nitrogen purge means (NP8, NP9) and the like.
- a vanadium electrolyte solution preparation process is a process provided as needed.
- this preparation step (A) when the second solution is not adjusted to the final target liquid amount, tailored water or tailored sulfuric acid for adjusting to the final total amount is added to the second solution to add vanadium.
- the liquid amount preparation step (A) is a step provided as necessary, and if the final target liquid amount of the vanadium electrolyte solution can be achieved in the first solution preparation step and the second solution preparation step. This step is unnecessary. Therefore, no tailored water or tailored sulfuric acid is added, and the second solution itself is used as the vanadium electrolyte.
- Tailored water or tailored sulfuric acid is used for the purpose of setting the vanadium ion concentration to a target concentration in the range of not more than 1.7 mol / L and not more than 3.5 mol / L when the second solution is less than the target liquid amount, and sulfuric acid.
- the concentration is added to obtain a target concentration within a range of 0.5 mol / L or more and 4 mol / L or less.
- the concentration of tailored sulfuric acid is preferably adjusted so that it can be adjusted to such a target concentration.
- the valence preparation step (B) is also a step provided as necessary, and the second solution is second when the valence adjustment of vanadium ions is not required because the second solution is not fully charged to pentavalent or divalent.
- the solution itself is used as the vanadium electrolyte.
- the valence adjustment at this time is a preparation for reducing a part of pentavalent vanadium ions in the vanadium electrolytic solution to tetravalent, a part of the divalent vanadium ions in the vanadium electrolytic solution being trivalent or It is a preparation for oxidation to tetravalent.
- Such preparation includes preparation for reducing a part of pentavalent vanadium ions in the second solution in a fully charged state or a charged state close to full charge to tetravalent, and the divalent vanadium ions in the vanadium electrolyte solution. It is preferably applied when preparation for oxidizing a part to trivalent or tetravalent is necessary.
- the anolyte aging tank is accommodated.
- a predetermined amount of the electrolytic solution containing pentavalent vanadium ions is transferred to the catholyte adjustment tank, and the divalent or trivalent vanadium ion solution and the pentavalent vanadium ion solution are mixed.
- the divalent or trivalent vanadium ions are oxidized, and a vanadium electrolyte solution for a cathode containing trivalent or tetravalent vanadium ions can be obtained.
- a high concentration vanadium electrolyte solution that could not be obtained conventionally is obtained.
- a vanadium electrolyte solution for an anode a vanadium electrolyte solution in which no precipitate is generated can be obtained by starting to add sulfuric acid after reaching a predetermined potential.
- the anode and cathode vanadium electrolytes thus obtained can suppress the generation of sludge such as vanadium peroxide and vanadium oxide even when charging and discharging are subsequently performed by oxidation electrolysis or reduction electrolysis.
- the manufactured vanadium electrolyte solution may be subsequently electrolyzed and charged, or may be stored as it is.
- the filling electrolysis process is an arbitrarily applied process and is a process of charging the anode or cathode vanadium electrolyte prepared as described above.
- the second solution for anode after pre-electrolysis is oxidized and electrolyzed to obtain a vanadium electrolyte containing pentavalent vanadium ions, or the second solution for cathode after pre-electrolysis is subjected to reduction electrolysis. And obtaining a vanadium electrolyte solution containing divalent vanadium ions.
- the current density of the same level as the current density applied during pre-electrolysis is applied as it is.
- the initial charge (initial charge) of the vanadium electrolyte can be performed in a state where generation of sludge or the like is suppressed.
- generation of sludge can be suppressed even if it is recharged with a remarkably high current density.
- Such a current density is in the range of 10 mA / cm 2 or more and 100 mA / cm 2 or less, and preferably in the range of 20 mA / cm 2 or more and 70 mA / cm 2 or less.

- Electrolytic means of constant voltage electrolysis or composite electrolysis is not particularly limited, and various means can be applied. For example, oxidation and reduction may be performed by applying a constant current, oxidation and reduction may be performed by applying a constant voltage, electrolysis is first performed at a constant current, and then electrolysis is performed at a constant voltage. You may go. Further, two or more constant currents and constant voltages increased in stages may be sequentially applied.
