本発明の第1実施形態に係る静電容量式タッチセンサを備える電子機器について、以下に携帯電話機を例に挙げて説明するが、静電容量式タッチセンサを備える電子機器は、携帯電話機以外の例えばパーソナルコンピュータや自動販売機など他の電子機器であってもよい。本発明の適用できる電子機器は、携帯電話機に限られるものではない。

基体シート312は、波長550nmにおける面内方向リタデーション値が20nm以下の透明なシートである。この基体シート312の厚みは、30~2000μm程度が好ましい。面内方向リタデーション値を20nm以下にできる基体シート312の材料としては、ポリカーボネート系樹脂、ポリアリレート系樹脂、セルロース系樹脂、ノルボルネン系樹脂、ポリスチレン系樹脂、オレフィン系樹脂、アクリル系樹脂などのプラスチックフィルムが挙げられる。なかでも、ポリカーボネート系樹脂を用いたプラスチックフィルムは、製膜条件を好適にすることで上記面内方向リタデーション値を5nm以下にすることが可能であるため特に好ましい。なお、ここでいうポリカーボネート系樹脂の概念には、ポリカーボネート樹脂も含まれる。
保護シート311は、上述の条件でJISK712のB法に準拠して測定した場合に、水蒸気透過度が1g/(m2・24h)以下であり、かつ波長550nmにおける面内方向リタデーション値が20nm以下である透明なプラスチック製シートである。この保護シート311の厚みは、30~2000μm程度が好ましい。保護シート311の材料としては、シクロオレフィン系樹脂のプラスチックフィルムが挙げられる。シクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムは水蒸気バリア性が高くかつ面内方向リタデーション値が低いだけでなく、立体加工もしやすい。水蒸気透過度が1g/(m2・24h)以下であり、かつ波長550nmにおける面内方向リタデーション値が5nm以下であるシクロオレフィン系樹脂として、例えば日本ゼオン株式会社製のZEONOR(登録商標)が好適に用いられる。
透明導電膜層313は、インジウムスズ酸化物、亜鉛酸化物などの金属酸化物や、樹脂バインダーとカーボンナノチューブや金属ナノワイヤなどとからなる層が挙げられ、真空蒸着法、スパッタリング法、イオンプレーティング法、鍍金法、グラビア、スクリーン、オフセットなどの汎用の印刷法、各種コーターによる方法、塗装、ディッピングなどの方法で形成される。透明導電膜層313は、厚さ数十nm程度から数μm程度、光線透過率80%以上、表面抵抗値数mΩから数百Ωの値に設定されることが好ましい。
粘着層314は、アクリル系樹脂、ポリウレタン系樹脂、ビニル系樹脂、ゴム系樹脂などからなる層が挙げられ、グラビア、スクリーン、オフセットなどの汎用の印刷法、各種コーターによる方法、塗装、ディッピングなどの方法で形成される。粘着層314は、厚さが数μm程度から数十μm程度に形成され、強固な粘着性・各種耐性を示すことが好ましい。

保護シート311を粘着層314の側面まで被覆するような構造に形成する製造方法としては、図4に示す工程を経て、立体形状に形成された保護シート311を基体シート312に積層する方法がある。図4に示すように、粘着層314等の側面に保護シート311の外周加工部311aが達するように、保護シート311は予め成形されている。保護シート311を粘着層314等の側面を被覆するように予め立体形状に成形する方法としては、プレス成形、真空成形、圧空成形などが挙げられる。プレス成形は、保護シート311の軟化温度よりも高い温度で行ない、例えば保護シート311が軟化温度120℃のシクロオレフィン系樹脂からなる場合には160℃に加熱して保護シート311の形成が行われる。立体形状に形成された保護シート311を基体シート312に積層する方法としては、接着剤等を介してラミネートする方法などが挙げられる。
保護シート311を粘着層314の側面まで被覆するような構造に形成する製造方法としては、図5に示す工程を経て、粘着層314等の側面を覆うように、粘着層314等の側面に沿わせて立体形状に加工しながら保護シート311を基体シート312に積層する方法がある。
保護シート311を粘着層314の側面まで被覆するような構造に形成する製造方法としては、保護シート311を基体シート312に積層した後、図6に示す工程を経て、保護シート311を粘着層314等の側面に沿うように加工する方法がある。
上記実施形態では、透明導電膜積層体31に、基体シート312や透明導電膜層313や粘着層314がそれぞれ2層ずつ積層されている場合を示したが、図7に示すように、これらの層が1層ずつ積層されていてもよい。図7においては図示を省略しているが、図1に示したFPC30cを透明導電膜積層体31Aの透明導電膜層313に接続することによって、静電容量式タッチセンサ30Aが構成される。この静電容量式タッチセンサ30Aも、図1に示した液晶ディスプレイ装置20と組み合わせて、携帯電話機10などの電子機器内に搭載することができる。
上記実施形態の透明導電膜積層体31や変形例1-1に示した透明導電膜積層体31Aは、粘着層314の側面を保護シート311の外周加工部311aで覆っている。しかし、携帯電話機10の表側11aの側の防水性が高い場合などには、粘着層314の側面まで保護シート311で覆う必要がない場合もある。そのような時には、図8の透明導電膜積層体31Bや図9の透明導電膜積層体31Cのように、保護シート315を基体シート312の他方面に積層するだけでよく、構成や製造方法が簡単になる。図8及び図9においては図示を省略しているが、図1に示したFPC30cを透明導電膜積層体31B,31Cの透明導電膜層313に接続することによって、静電容量式タッチセンサ30B,30Cが構成される。この静電容量式タッチセンサ30B,30Cも、図1に示した液晶ディスプレイ装置20と組み合わせて、携帯電話機10などの電子機器内に搭載することができる。
(1)透明導電膜積層体の作製
基体シートとして厚さ50μmのポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムを用い、その表面にインジウムスズ酸化物からなる厚さ200nmの透明導電膜層をスパッタリング法で形成した。使用したポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムの面内方向リタデーション値は20nm以下であり、水蒸気透過度が10g/(m2・24h)以上であった。さらに、透明導電膜層が形成されたポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムの上に、厚さ25μmのポリウレタン系の粘着層をスクリーン印刷で形成した。このようにして作成した透明導電膜積層体を10セット用意した。
以上の保護シートを積層した5セット及び積層しなかった5セットを、60℃90RH%の耐湿試験機に入れ、10日間放置した後、表面状態を目視により確認した。保護シートを積層した5セットは全て異常がなかった。しかし、保護シートを積層しなかった5セットについては全て粘着層が白化しており、うち1セットについては透明導電膜層も若干白化していた。
(1)透明導電膜積層体の作製

以上の保護シートを貼り付けした5セット及び貼り付けなかった5セットを、60℃90RH%の耐湿試験機に入れ、10日間放置した後、表面状態を目視により確認した。保護シートを貼り付けた5セットは全て異常がなかった。しかし、保護シートを貼り付けなかった5セットについては全て粘着層が白化しており、うち3セットについては透明導電膜層もかなり白化していた。

基体シート312に用いられるポリカーボネート系樹脂など、面内方向リタデーション値が低いプラスチックフィルムの多くは、水蒸気透過度が高いため水蒸気を容易に透過する。そのため、ポリカーボネート系樹脂などからなる基体シート312だけでは、基体シート312を透過した水蒸気によって粘着層314が(条件によっては透明導電膜層313も)白化する問題が発生する。
保護シート311の外周加工部311aが、第1及び第2の粘着層314の側面を覆っている静電容量式タッチセンサ30,30Aでは、側面から粘着層314への水蒸気の侵入が防止され、粘着層314の白化を防止する効果が向上する。
本発明の第2実施形態に係る静電容量式タッチセンサについて図10乃至図12を用いて説明する。図10乃至図12には、静電容量式タッチセンサ40の構成のうち、透明導電膜積層体41と他の部材42とが図示されている。後述する透明導電膜積層体41の透明導電膜層412に、図1に示したFPC30cを接続することによって、第2実施形態の静電容量式タッチセンサ40が構成される。第2実施形態の静電容量式タッチセンサ40も、第1実施形態の静電容量式タッチセンサ30と同様に、図1に示した液晶ディスプレイ装置20と組み合わせて、携帯電話機10などの電子機器内に搭載することができる。
(1-1)構成の概要
図10は、静電容量式タッチセンサ40の構成を説明するための模式的な断面図である。静電容量式タッチセンサ40は、図10に示す透明導電膜積層体41と他の部材42と、図示を省略しているFPCから構成されている。他の部材42は、例えばガラス基材などである。
基体シート411は、上述の条件でJISK712のB法に準拠して測定した場合に、水蒸気透過度が1g/(m2・24h)以下であり、かつ波長550nmにおける面内方向リタデーション値が20nm以下である透明なプラスチック製シートである。この基体シート411の厚みは、30~2000μm程度が好ましい。基体シート411の材料としては、シクロオレフィン系樹脂のプラスチックフィルムが挙げられる。シクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムは水蒸気バリア性が高くかつ面内方向リタデーション値が低いだけでなく、立体加工もしやすい。水蒸気透過度が1g/(m2・24h)以下であり、かつ波長550nmにおける面内方向リタデーション値が5nm以下であるシクロオレフィン系樹脂として、例えば日本ゼオン株式会社製のZEONOR(登録商標)が好適に用いられる。
透明導電膜層412及び粘着層413は、第1実施形態の透明導電膜層313及び粘着層314と同じに形成できるので、説明を省略する。 (1-4)光学等方性シート414
光学等方性シート414は、波長550nmにおける面内方向リタデーション値が20nm以下の透明なプラスチックフィルムで構成されている。この光学等方性シート414の厚みは、30~2000μm程度が好ましい。面内方向リタデーション値を20nm以下にできる光学等方性シート414の材料としては、ポリカーボネート系樹脂、ポリアリレート系樹脂、セルロース系樹脂、ノルボルネン系樹脂、ポリスチレン系樹脂、オレフィン系樹脂、アクリル系樹脂などのプラスチックフィルムが挙げられる。なかでも、ポリカーボネート系樹脂を用いたプラスチックフィルムは、製膜条件を好適にすることで上記面内方向リタデーション値を5nm以下にすることが可能であるため特に好ましい。
(2-1)立体形状の基体シートを用いる方法
基体シート411を粘着層314の側面まで被覆するような構造に形成する製造方法としては、予め立体形状に成形された基体シート411を用いて粘着層413等の側面を被覆する方法がある。この方法においては、まず、基体シート411上に第1の透明導電膜層412及び第1の粘着層413を形成する。その後、第1の透明導電膜層412及び第1の粘着層413が形成された基体シート411を立体形状に形成する。その後、該基体シート411の底面上に光学等方性シート414を形成し、該光学等方性シート414上に第2の透明導電膜層412及び第2の粘着層413を形成する。
基体シート411を粘着層314の側面まで被覆するような構造に形成する製造方法としては、基体シート411上への積層が終了した後に、図12に示す工程を経て、基体シート411を粘着層314等の側面に沿うように加工する方法がある。この方法では、まず、基体シート411上に第1の透明導電膜層412及び第1の粘着層413を形成する。次に、第1の粘着層413の上に光学等方性シート414を形成し、さらに光学等方性シート414上に第2の透明導電膜層412及び第2の粘着層413を形成する。その後、基体シート411を光学等方性シート414上の第2の粘着層413の側面まで覆うように加工する。
上記実施形態の透明導電膜積層体41で、透明導電膜層412や粘着層413が2層ずつ積層されている場合を示したが、図13に示すように、これらの層が1層ずつ積層されていてもよい。図13において一点鎖線の円で囲まれた領域IIの拡大図を図14に示す。図14に示すように、透明導電膜積層体41では、他の部材42ではなくて、光学等方性シート414の方に基体シート411が密着する。それにより、基体シート411と光学等方性シート414との隙間がなくなり、水蒸気の侵入が防止される。図13においては図示を省略しているが、図1に示したFPC30cを透明導電膜積層体41Aの透明導電膜層412に接続することによって、静電容量式タッチセンサ40Aが構成される。この静電容量式タッチセンサ40Aも、図1に示した液晶ディスプレイ装置20と組み合わせて、携帯電話機10などの電子機器内に搭載することができる。
上記実施形態の透明導電膜積層体41や変形例2-1に示した透明導電膜積層体41Aは、粘着層413の側面を基体シート411の外周加工部411aで覆っている。しかし、携帯電話機10の表側11aの側の防水性が高い場合などには、粘着層413の側面まで基体シート411で覆う必要がない場合もある。そのような時には、図15の透明導電膜積層体41Bや図16の透明導電膜積層体41Cのように、基体シート415で粘着層413の側面を覆わない構成としてもよく、構成や製造方法が簡単になる。図15及び図16においては図示を省略しているが、図1に示したFPC30cを透明導電膜積層体41B,41Cの透明導電膜層412に接続することによって、静電容量式タッチセンサ40B,40Cが構成される。この静電容量式タッチセンサ40B,40Cも、図1に示した液晶ディスプレイ装置20と組み合わせて、携帯電話機10などの電子機器内に搭載することができる。

験機に入れ、10日間放置した後、表面状態を目視により確認した。シクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムを基体シートとする5セットついては、2セットのみに若干の粘着層の白化がみられた。しかし、ポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムを基体シートとする5セットについては、全て粘着層が白化しており、うち2セットについては透明導電膜層も若干白化していた。

基体シートとして厚さ50μmのシクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムを用い、その上にインジウムスズ酸化物からなる厚さ200nmの透明導電膜層をスパッタリング法で形成した。使用したシクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムの面内方向リタデーション値は5nm以下であり、水蒸気透過度は1g/(m2・24h)であった。さらに、透明導電膜層が形成されたシクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムの上に、厚さ25μmのポリウレタン系の粘着層をスクリーン印刷で形成し、その粘着層の上に光学等方性シートとして厚さ50μmのポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムを積層した。使用したポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムの面内方向リタデーション値は20nm以下であり、水蒸気透過度が10g/(m2・24h)以上であった。その積層したポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルム上にインジウムスズ酸化物からなる厚さ200nmの透明導電膜層をスパッタリング法で形成した。さらに、透明導電膜層が形成されたポリカーボネート系樹脂フィルムの上に25μmのポリウレタン系の粘着層をスクリーン印刷で形成した後、さらにその上に別の部材としてガラス基材を積層した。このように基体シートと透明導電膜層と粘着層と光学等方性シートと透明導電膜層と粘着層と他の部材とからなる透明導電膜積層体を10セット用意した。
基体シートを立体加工した5セットおよび立体加工しなかった5セットを、60℃90RH%の耐湿試験機に入れ、10日間放置した後、表面状態を目視により確認した。基体シートを立体加工した5セットは全て異常がなかった。しかし、立体加工しなかった5セットについては5セット全ての粘着層が白化し、特に粘着層の端部が白化しており、うち1セットについては透明導電膜層も若干白化していた。

従来から基体シートや光学等方性シート414に用いられていたポリカーボネート系樹脂など、面内方向リタデーション値が低いプラスチックフィルムの多くは、水蒸気透過度が高いため水蒸気を容易に透過する。そのため、ポリカーボネート系樹脂などからなる基体シートや光学等方性シート414を透過した水蒸気によって粘着層413が(条件によっては透明導電膜層412も)白化する問題が発生する。
基体シート411の外周加工部411aが、第1及び第2の粘着層413の側面を覆っている静電容量式タッチセンサ40,40Aでは、側面から粘着層413への水蒸気の侵入が防止され、粘着層413の白化を防止する効果が向上する。
本発明の第3実施形態に係る静電容量式タッチセンサについて図17を用いて説明する。図17は携帯電話機10Aの部分断面図である。図17において、図2と同じ符号を付したものは図2と同じものであるので説明を省略する。
図17の携帯電話機10Aが図2の携帯電話機10と異なる点は、液晶ディスプレイ装置20の上に配置されている位相差フィルム22と、静電容量式タッチセンサ50の構成である。静電容量式タッチセンサ50は、図17に示す透明導電膜積層体51及び他の部材52と、図示を省略しているFPCから構成されている。他の部材51は例えばガラス基材であり、FPCは図1に示したFPC30cと同様に透明導電膜積層体51の透明導電膜層412に接続されている。
(2-1)構成の概要
透明導電膜積層体51は、基体シート411と透明導電膜層412と粘着層413と光学等方性シート414と偏光フィルム511と位相差フィルム512とを備えている。透明導電膜積層体51は、偏光フィルム511及び位相差フィルム512を除く構成が図16に示す透明導電膜積層体41Cと同じである。そのため、ここでは偏光フィルム511及び位相差フィルム512について説明し、基体シート411と透明導電膜層412と粘着層413と光学等方性シート414については説明を省略する。
偏光フィルム511は、入射する光を直線偏光に変換する。偏光フィルム511は、例えば、染色されたポリビニルアルコール(PVA)とそれを両側から支える支持体としてのトリアセチルセルロース(TAC)から構成される三層構造を有するものである。偏光フィルム511は、光学特性として、単体透過率40%以上、偏光度99%以上のものを使用することが好ましい。
位相差フィルム512は、偏光フィルム511よりも光学等方性シート414側に設けられ、直線偏光された光を円偏光に変換する。位相差フィルム512は、人間の視感度が最も高い550nmの波長の1/4の長さに当たる137nm程度の位相差値を有するものであることが好ましい。位相差フィルム512は、例えば、ポリカーボネート樹脂(PC)、ポリアリレート樹脂(PAR)、ノルボルネン系樹脂のフィルムを予め設定された延伸条件で製膜して所望の位相差値を得たものである。ノルボルネン系樹脂のフィルムとしては、株式会社JSR製の ARTON(登録商標)や日本ゼオン株式会社製のZEONOR(登録商標)等のフィルムが挙げられる。
上記実施形態の透明導電膜積層体51で、透明導電膜層412や粘着層413が2層ずつ積層されている場合を示したが、図13に示すように、これらの層が1層ずつ積層されていてもよい。また、透明導電膜積層体51は、粘着層413の側面を基体シート411の外周加工部で覆っていない。しかし、携帯電話機10の表側11aの側の防水性が低い場合などには、粘着層413や偏光フィルム511と位相差フィルム512との側面が基体シート411で覆われている図10や図13に示されているような構成にすることもできる。
(1)透明導電膜積層体の作製 実施例1のシクロオレフィン系樹脂フィルムを用いた透明導電膜層シートにおいて、ガラス基材と透明導電膜層との間に、偏光度99.5%、単体透過率43%の光学特性を有する110μmの三層構造偏光フィルム(30μmのポリビニルアルコール(PVA)とそれを両側から支える40μmの支持体トリアセチルセルロース(TAC)とから構成)と、その吸収軸が偏光フィルムの吸収軸と約45度傾いた135nmの位相差値を有する70μmのポリアリレート樹脂を主成分とする位相差フィルムとを、この順に積層した。

第3実施形態の透明導電膜積層体51は、第2実施形態の透明導電膜積層体41Cの構成を含んでいるので、粘着層413や透明導電膜層412の白化の防止に関しては、第2実施形態と同様の効果を奏する。
偏光フィルム511を基体シート411の下部に設置される液晶ディスプレイ装置20の偏光板と吸収軸が同じになるように配置すれば、液晶ディスプレイ装置20の情報表示時に液晶ディスプレイ装置20の光源からの出射光25がより透過するようにできる。
