Abstract

 本発明は、電気光学効果を有する薄板と、前記薄板に形成された光導波路と、前記光導波路を通過する光を制御するための制御電極とを有する光制御素子において、前記制御電極に印加されるマイクロ波信号と前記光との速度整合や、前記マイクロ波のインピーダンス整合、駆動電圧の低減及び高速動作を可能とするという課題を達成するものである。前記課題を達成するため、本発明の光制御素子の前記制御電極は、前記薄板の上側に信号電極と接地電極を配置し、前記薄板の下側には接地電極を含む第2電極を配置する構成とする。そして特にインピーダンス整合を図るために、前記信号電極の下方には前記第2電極が存在しないように配置する。
