Definitions
- the invention relates to a pencil sharpening machine with the features of the preamble of claim 1. If a "pencil” is used here as a workpiece to be clamped by the chuck of the sharpener, then these include not only lead or colored pencils, but also kohl pencils, mines or the like pen-shaped objects.
- the pen is held in the chuck in a rotationally fixed manner, while the milling cutters are driven around it in the area of the pen tip.
- the rotary drive is motorized or by hand.
- the chuck is guided inside a chuck housing that is displaceable in the axial direction on the machine housing containing the milling mechanism, and is displaceable in the axial direction.
- the chuck housing is acted upon by a spring tension in the axial direction against the milling cutter in such a way that an automatic axial infeed of the pin tip takes place against the plane of rotation of the rotating milling cutter.
- the chuck of the known pointed machines is constructed in many parts and is therefore complex to manufacture.
- the holding tongues are individually pivoted on the chuck housing about axles fixed to the housing. Their outer actuating ends are connected in terms of drive to a separate holding frame which surrounds the chuck axis in a ring-like manner and which is mounted within the chuck housing so as to be pivotable about a torsion spring acting in the circumferential direction thereof about the chuck axis.
- the torsion spring loading of the holding frame in the circumferential direction causes the holding ends of the holding tongues to pivot back automatically into their clamping position relative to an inserted pin or into a close position close to the axis.
- a similar chuck for a pencil sharpening machine is known from DE-AS 1 063 934. Instead of a torsion spring, however, a plurality of helical springs running in the circumferential direction are provided for acting on the holding frame. From DE-PS 472 725 a further chuck for a pencil sharpening machine is known.
- the chuck is formed here by a plurality of levers which are pivotably mounted about axes fixed to the housing and which are guided approximately tangentially to a bushing for the pin.
- each lever In the area of the feedthrough, each lever carries a clamping jaw which projects into the feedthrough when the chuck is in the closed position.
- the levers engage with their outer ends in cutouts of a pivotable chuck cover, so that when the cover is turned, the clamping jaws held together by spring force are pulled apart approximately radially.
- the invention has for its object to structurally simplify a pointed machine of the type mentioned. This object is solved by claim 1. What is achieved in the prior art by a multi-part design with a rotary or sliding movement of these parts against one another, the invention accomplishes with only the holding frame and the holding tongues which are neither rotatably nor displaceably fixed thereon. A separate torsion spring which is effective in the circumferential direction is not required because its effectiveness is replaced by the retaining tongues fixed on the holding frame in the manner of one-sidedly clamped bars and their abutment on stationary stops of the chuck housing.
- a one-piece design of the holding frame and holding tongues according to claim 2 is particularly advantageous.
- the use of polyoxymethylene (POM) as the material for the one-piece chuck according to claim 3 ensures that the elasticity of the holding tongues is retained over the long term.
- An arrangement according to claim 4 enables a particularly simple assembly of the chuck, since this does not have to be introduced into the chuck housing under pretension, as is conventional.
- Claim 8 allows great freedom of design for the holding frame without influencing the freedom of shape, the spring behavior and the pivoting mobility of the holding tongues. This is particularly advantageous because the holding tongues are fixed to the holding frame and in particular are made in one piece with it.
- the spring characteristic of a retaining tongue can easily be set according to claim 9 by dimensioning its cross-sectional area in the individual longitudinal regions of the retaining tongue.
- the connection area between the holding tongue and the holding frame can be protected against a high torsional stress that damages the material.
- Claim 12 and / or 13 enable a further manufacturing simplification of the pointed machine.
- Fig. 1 is a plan view of the inside of the outer shell of the
- FIG. 2 is a plan view analogous to FIG. 1 with the holding frame pivoted into the open position of the chuck,
- FIG. 3 is a plan view analogous to FIG. 1 of only the holding frame with its integrally molded holding tongues

- FIG. 5 is a plan view analogous to FIGS. 1 and 2 of the bare inner wall of the
- FIG. 6 is a side view of the individual parts of the chuck housing in
- Exploded view namely a) the inner shell with integrally formed axial guide, b) the actual chuck consisting of the holding frame and clamping tongues, and c) the outer shell,
- the pointed machine comprises a chuck 1, which is mounted in a part of a chuck housing 2, 3 designed as a trough-shaped outer shell 2 about a chuck axis 4.
- the chuck 1 and the outer shell 2 are shown individually in FIGS. 3 and 5 and in FIG. 6 for clarification.
- the chuck housing 2, 3 is closed off approximately in the drawing plane by an inner shell 3 (not shown in FIG. 1).
- the terms radial and axial are used in relation to the chuck axis 4.
- axial projections 6, which rest in the circumferential area of a substantially circular disk-shaped holding frame 7 of the chuck 1.
- approximately rod-shaped holding tongues 8 of rectangular cross section are formed on this.
- a holding tongue 8 with part of a side surface is placed on an end face 9 of the holding frame 7 at a small distance and projects therefrom in essentially radially in the direction of the chuck axis 4.
- the retaining tongue 8 tapers like a wedge, as can be seen from FIG. 6b.
- the radially inner holding ends 10 of the holding tongues 8, widened in the circumferential direction, are closely spaced from one another in the idle state of the chuck 1, as shown in FIG. 1.
- the radially inwardly facing surfaces of the retaining tongues 8 are provided with retaining grooves 11.
- the holding frame 7 is mounted by means of the axial projections 6 in such a way that it can be pivoted about the chuck axis 4 in a limited angular interval.
- the extreme positions of the holding frame 7, which correspond to the closed and open positions of the chuck 1, are shown in FIG. 2 shown.
- an opening lever 13 projecting through a slot 12 in the chuck housing 2, 3 is attached to it.
- the length of the slot 12 limits the maximum pivoting path of the holding frame 7.
- the opening lever 13 is offset by a projection attached to the outer shell 2 on the outside as a counterhold 14 in the pivoting direction at a distance.
- each retaining tongue 8 lies against a stop 15 projecting from the inner wall 5 of the outer shell 2.
- the stop 15 is positioned such that it touches the holding tongue 8 near the holding end 10 on the surface pointing in the pivoting direction.
- the holding tongue 8 is elastically deformed by the stop 15 protruding into the pivoting path in the manner of a bar spring clamped in on one side, this bending taking place in a parallel plane upstream of the plane of the holding frame 7.
- the holding end 10 is deflected radially outward, as can be seen from FIG. 2.
- the chuck 1 is thus in its open position.
- a pin to be pointed can now be inserted into the chuck 1 through a passage 16 provided both in the chuck housing 2, 3 and in the holding frame 7 become.
- the chuck 1 driven by the restoring force of the curved retaining tongues 8, automatically swings back in the direction of its closed position.
- the inserted pin is clamped by the striving holding ends 10 coaxially to the chuck axis 4 in a stationary and rotationally fixed manner with respect to the chuck 1.
- the assembly process takes place, as indicated in FIG. 6: First, the chuck 1 is inserted into the outer shell 2 along the dashed lines and according to FIG. 1. Then it is closed by the inner shell 3.
- the inner shell 3 is essentially flat, as shown in FIG. 7, and has a network of stiffening ribs 18 on its inner wall 17.
- the connection between the outer shell 2 and the inner shell 3 is established via a snap connection 19 designed in a conventional manner.
- the chuck housing 2, 3 is guided axially displaceably via an axial guide 20 on a machine housing (not shown) which contains the milling mechanism.
- This axial guide 20 is integrally formed on the outer wall 21 of the inner shell 3.
