W. H. WILKINSON.
HEATING STOVE,
No. 18,877. Patented June 5, 1888.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
W'ILLTAM ll. \VI'LKINSON, Oi tOCIIESTElt, NEW' YORK, ASSlGNOR TO THE C()-OPERATIVE FOUNDRY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,377, dated June 5, 1888.
Application filed April id, 1588. Serial No. 2TLQ3B.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. WILKIN- soN, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new 5 and useful Design for I-IeatingStoves, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying photograph.
This newly-designed stove is intended for a parlor-heater. It is of the square or prismatic form, with mica openings in three faces. It comprises, essentially, a stand, A, base G, ashpit section B, main or heating section 0, and top section, D. The stand is rectangular in 1 plan, and consists of a base-strip, a, with rounded corners extending completely around the stand, with a leg, I), at each corner. The ash-pit section is of box form, having four ven tical faces or sides surmounted by an over- 2 hanging or drooping cornice, c. The main section 0 is substantially rectangular in cross section and slightly smaller in horizontal measurements than the ash-pit section. The top D is also rectangular in plan andprojects laterally beyond the sides of the main section.
The base-stri p has plain narrow bands e skirting its upper and lower edges, the surface it between which being stippled and ornamented with raised scrolls. At the corners over the 0 legs the base-strip is carved with raised in volute curls f, and vertical beaded bars 9 cut the space It into panels. Between these beaded bars, at the middle of each face of the basestrip, is a wheel, 6, surrounded by involute curls, the lower one of which drops below the lower band, e, of the base-strip.
The convex face d of the base G is vertically ribbed, and a honeysuckle, it, is repre seated at each corner.
The ash-pit section is formed with aswelled front door, 1, formed with plain convex diedral angles and a head, a, inclosing a rectangular space, within which are formed plain vertical bars 0, alternated with vertical openings p and ornamented with raised leaves and scrolls cutting indiflerently across said bars and openings alike. The spaces 0 are the draft-openings for the stove, and the internal draft-slide, r, is formed with stippled surfaces,
as shown. At the corners of the section horizontally-ribbed convcxed vertical columns 8- Term of paient 1' years.
are formed. The. right and left faces of this section are formed in raised panels 1!, with massed leaves and scroll-work.
The corners of the main section 0 of the stove are ornamented with vertical fluted columns u,with a ribbon wound in spirals around each and leaf-work at the top and bottom. The lower mica doors, o, are formed with rectangular openings divided by vertical bars 20, and representations of tongues of flame a, traverse these bars. Over each of these doors is a horizontal band, b, of leaves and scrolls, above which are the upper doors 0'. The front door 0' is rectangular in outline, excepting that it is formed atitsuppcrside with an indentation, partly within and over which is a circular tile or ornament, d. This door is formed with mica openings separated by vertical and horizontal bars e, traversed by rep- 7c resentations of tongues of flamef, radiating from a semicircle, the whole forming a sun burst. The side mica doors a are rectangular, having a circle at the centcr, with radiating tongues of flame extended andjoined to the outer frame or peripheral bars of the door. A tile, 9, has place over each of the side doors, and the plate on each side of which, and likewise on each side of the figure d, is ornamented with leaves and scrolls.
The top section, D, swells outward on its under side at It to overhang the body of the stove, and is rounded inward on its upper side at i toward the middle, where it is figured to represent laurel-leaves. It is terminated at the top in a raised part or table, is, upon which rests a perforated ornamental dome, E. At the corners the top section is formed with ribbed partial domes Z, the axis of each of which coincides with the axis of the respective 0 columns a, which domes constitute to the eye caps for said columns.
The dome or cover E is formed with an oval base, above the band 8' of which the convex surface or groundwork is stippled, from which 5 surface are raised figures t, as shown. These figures are substantially radial at their upper ends, but turn at their lower ends into involutes tangent to the band. In the spaces between these figures are formed raised knobs or buttons a.
The dome is surmounted by an ornament,
F, representing an oak-leaf, n, and a log, 0, upon which stands a bee, 1/,with outstretched wings, the whole resting upon a horizontal slab or table, r, contiguous with the dome. Upon the wings of the bee a small lllaltcsc cross is shown.
Foot-rails I are placed at each side of the ash-pit section, as shown.
What I claim as my invention is- 1. In a design for a heating-stove herein shown and described, the stand A, consisting of a basestrip, a, formed of marginal bands e 6, with vertical bars g and wheels 2', the space between said bands being stippled and ornamented with raised leaves and scrolls and involutes at the rounded corners.
2. In a design for a heating stove herein shown and described, a rectangular ash-pit section, 13, formed with horizontally-ribbed columns at the corners, raised panels at the sides with ornamental leai'and scroll work, and overhanging or drooping cornice c.
3. In a design for a heating-stove herein shown and described, a door consisting of an outer or peripheral frame and openings within defined by cross-bars, and representations of tongues of flame spanning said openings and attached to said crossbars.
4. In a design for a heatingstove herein shown and described, a main or furnace section, 0, formed with corner-columns vertically fluted and ornamented with bands or ribbons formed in spiral turns therearound, and with ICPIOSGlltZltiODS of leaves at the top and bottom of each column.
5. In a design for a hcatingstove herein shown and described, a rectangular top formed with ribbed partial domes at the corner and convex diedral angles ornamented. with laurelleaves, as shown, the top terminating at its uppersurface in a slab or table, It", with beaded horizontal corners.
G. In a design for a heating stove herein shown and described, a dome or cover having a base oval in plan and a base-band, the swelled or convex surface of the dome above the band being stippled, and raised involutes touching the band and having their upper ends formed into substantially straight radial lines, with knobs or buttons between the latter, substantially as shown and described.
7. In a design for a heatingstove herein shown and described, an ornament surmounting the dome, consisting of a representation of a log and an oak-leaf, the former surmounted by a bee.
8. The design for a heating-stove having the shape and ornamentation herein shown and described, consisting of the sections A G B G D,with a dome, E, surmounted by a bee.
