Description

DRAW I NB PAGE Uf lQw-Q I LQBLE DOCUMENT NUMBER UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY HUNT, OF GREEN VILLE, NEWV JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,236, dated April 3, 1888.
Application filed January 26, 1888. Serial No. 262,090. Term of patent 3% years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY HUNT, of Greenville, New Jersey, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the fol- 5 lowing is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets IO or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view of a carpet showing my new design.
1 My design consists of the figures A, B, C, and D and other similar figures arranged upon a suitable ground, as shown.
The figure A is rectangular or slightly oval in form, with an irregular outline, and has 20 more or less regularly arranged over its surface geometrical figures made up of block-work with small figures intervening.
Figure B is an oblong rectangular form composed of several rows of many-sided block- 25 work forms, between which are small squares or ornaments. The block-work forms are oval in general outline.
Figure 0 has an oval outline formed by a number of short projecting arms of small block work. Most of these projecting arms curve 0 somewhat toward their outer ends. The body of the figure is composed of a number of manysid'ed block forms closely arranged in rows.
Figure D is partly oval at one end, while at the other end it is widened into nearly a semi- 3 5 circular form. Short arms project from the edge of the oval portion and longer arms from the circumference of the semicircular portion. The center of the figure is ornamented with a conventionalized flower form. 0
Other similar figures appear in the design. These figures are all arranged upon a ground made up of small ornamental forms.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure A, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figure D, substantially as shown.
3. The design for carpets, consisting of the 50 figures A, B, C, and D and the other figures, substantially as shown.
HENRY HUNT.
