DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,228, dated April 3, 1888.
Application filed January 26, itSi-i. Serial No. 262.045. Term of patent 3 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES L. Person, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original 5 Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part ofthe same.
The invention relates to a design to be to worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a face view 15 of a carpet showing my new design.
My design consists of the irregnlarlyshaped figures A, B, C,and D disposed over thesurface of the carpet, substantially as shown.
Figure A is a composite figure having an 20 irregular indented outline. Its central portion is ornamented with coral-like forms. Around the central portion is a band of varying width and uneven outline, ornamented with small geometrical forms or cellular-like work. Out- 2 5 side of this band is a less prominent border or margin,in places assuming the form of a leaf.
Figure B is a composite figure having an irregular indented outline. The central portion is ornamented with coral-like forms. Surrounding this portion is a band or border of o varying width ornamented in part with cellular-like work and in part with leaf forms.
Figure C is a composite figure having an irregular indented outline. The central portion is ornamented with coral-like forms. Around 5 the central portion is a band or border of varying width, consisting in part of a single or double row of cellular-like forms and in part of leaf forms.
Figure D is a composite figure of a general 0 triangular shape, having an irregular indented outline. Its central portion is ornamented with coral-like forms. Around this central portion is a band or border of varying width, consisting of cellularlike work and leaf forms. 4 5
