CARPET.
No. 17,970. Patented Dec. 20, 1887 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES L. FOLSOM, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO THE HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, or
HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,970. dated December 20. 1887. A Muir-Mien filed Srptemlwrll, \EB'L Serial NmQJILGilT. Term of patent 3 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Janus L. Forsom', of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and original 5 Design for Carpets. of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, which forms a part of the same.
Theinvcntiou relates to a design to be worked,
into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is a Face view l5 of a carpet showing my new design.
My design consists of the figures A, B, and C, disposed at intervals over the surface of the carpet, substantially as shown.
Figure A has an underlying conventionalizod stern-work with branches projecting therefrom. Upon this stem-work are supported several conventionalized circular flower forms. At one portion of the figure there is a mass of block-work ornamentation, over which is seat-- tered a series of crossshaped forms. Smaller stems project here and there from the sides of the figure, hearing small leaves.
irregular stonework hearing circular flower forms of asomewhat skele' ton-like character. Connected with the stem- 0 work is a mass of block-like ornamentation quite irregular in the form and arrangement of its parts.
Figure 0 is a smaller figure. At its center is a mass of irregularlyshaped blocks. From one side of this mass projects a thick short stem-work. A few small stems and separate ornaments are scattered around the borders of the figure.
These figures are arranged upon a ground 0 work having at irregular intervals groups or portions of cellular-like work.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. .The design for carpets, consisting of the 5 figure B, substantially as shown.
2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figures A, B, and G and the groundwork, sulr stantially as shown.
Figure B has an JAS. L. FOLSOM.
