No. 18,168. Patented Mar. 6, 1888.
WILLIAM E. SAYERS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HARTFORD CARPET COMPANY, OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A CARPET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,168, dated March 6, 1888.
Application filed January 26, I888. Serial No. 262,082.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. SAYERS, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specificatiomreference being had to the accompanying photograph, which formsa part of the same.
The invention relates to a design to be worked into or upon surfaces, such as carpets or similar fabrics; and it consists in the novel configuration and grouping of figures, herein specifically shown and claimed.
The accompanying photograph is aface view ofa carpet showing my new design.
My design consists of a number of groups or masses of varying size and outline closely arranged over the surface of the carpet. These masses are composed of various kinds of cellularlike work or small geometrical patterns or honeycomb forms. The outline of each of Term of patent at years.
these groups or masses is very irregular, being formed in most cases by small projecting portions, which are rounded or partly circular in shape, giving the groups the appearance of 25 having been produced by the uniting of many small forms. The ornamentation 0f the cen tral portion of the groups is very varied, but is generally geometrical in character. Between these principal masses, or adhering to their edges, are small figures, such as crosses, star forms, double crosses, and other geometrical forms.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for carpets, consisting of the design substantially as shown.
W. E. SAYERS.
