DESIGN.
No. 35,024. Patented Sept. 3, I901. 0. LEIGH. BACK FOR BRUSHES 0R SIMILAR ARTICLES.
(Application filed Aug. 9, 1901.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO LEIGH, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,024, dated September 3, 1901.
Application filed August 9, 1901. Serial No. 71,429. Term of patent St years.
To ctZZ whom it nut/y concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO LEIGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Backs of Brushes or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
The figure is a plan view of the back of a brush or similar article, showing my new design.
As shown in the drawing, the leading and essential feature of my design consists of the raised ornamentation representing the Various figures following, each being shown in conventional form. Near the top of the upper portion is a human face, from whose mouth pour forth Waves or clouds of vapors.
On either side of this face and extending downwardly along each edge of the back is a figure of a sea-horse. Below the scrolled tails of the sea-horses are oppositely-disposed figures of fishes, they in turn being succeeded by storks. 'Woven in and out among these figures are rushes or cattails, the stems and foliage of which cover the narrowest part of the brush-handle, below which is a female figure surrounded by scrolled bands.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the back of a brush or similar article, as herein shown and described.
OTTO LEIGH. WVitnesses:
