DESIGN.
H. BERRY. BACK FOR BRUSHES, am.
No. 19,223. Patented July 23, 1889.
915 @wAOeW wm zm UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
HENRY BERRY, OF Sl-IELTON, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,223, dated July 23, 1889.
Application filed June 25, 1889. Serial No. 316,631. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shelton, in the county of Fairficld and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and produced a new and original Design for the Backs of Brushes and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming'a part thereof, and which shows a back for brushes and similar articles shaped and ornamented in accordance with my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in the shape or outline of the back, particularly when said outline is combined with the details of ornamentation which appear upon said back. At each end the back is rounded, as at a, and the outline of the edges between the ends is formed of two sinuous lines whose curves are 0pposedthat is, the long curve at one side near the end being opposed on the other side by the short curve. This gives to the whole back a slight S shape. At one end appears a convolved figure b, from which are developed the curved figures c, the whole having the general appearance of a conventional shell. This portion of the design covers a little less than one-half the surface of the entire back. At the other end of the back is a somewhat openly-c0nvolved figure (1, just below which aconventional scroll 6 forms a base, out of which a floral spray, composed of leaves f and having blossoms g, extends in a curved line toward the opposite end of the back.
I claim- The design for the backs of brushes and similar articles, substantially as shown and described.
In testimon whereof I affix m y signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY BERRY.
Witnesses:
